Brad Fisher - the X factor

If he stays on the park, he's certainly good enough I feel. Especially with team improvement and better midfield delievery.

Injuries have cruelled him.

35-40 goals (assuming injury-free) is a pretty high calibre of player though. If you look at last season, the players in that sort of bracket included Aaron Davey, Lance Franklin, Alan Didak, Chris Tarrant, Gary Ablett Jnr, Brett Burton and Mark Ricciuto. The only comparable player IMO to finish with that sort of output was Dixon at Hawthorn - who had a bit of a career year.

His worth to the team might be 35-40 goals, but he probably only ends up kicking high 20s, maybe 30 if he's lucky - with the rest being extra opportuntities to other players. If he does that, I'll be rapt.

At this stage i'd like to say i was officially the 1st Fish bandwaggoner. :D

It's just that it's taken me a few years to be able to actually feel confident to crow about it amd not jinx him.

I look forward to new members finally giving us our first fish related nicknames.

If this does not arrive soon i may have to change my name to AndFishMustScore.

He could kick 1 or 2 a game, and have no other impact to the game to get a tally like that. He won't have to gather a heap of marks, possies, won't have to set up many forwards thrusts into 50, won't even have to be in the best to kick a couple a game.

He can do it, any forward can. Only thing that sets that from the quality players you mentioned are their influence on games, and what else they do (great runs to set up play, defensive tackles, great marks, that sort of thing).

If he can do more than just 1 or 2 goals a game, then that will be great.

2 goals a game isn't much. But every game? That means if he has a couple of off days, he needs a bag of 5-6 to get back, and I don't reckon Fish will get enough chances to do that. Don't get me wrong, I reckon he's a good player, but if you look at the players who kicked 35-40 goal last year, he simply isn't in their calibre. If he was the primary target, he might get there, but he isn't, and won't get enough of the ball for those gaudy numbers

Fisher has the talent to be put among that group IMHO.
To only kick 1-2 goals a game isn't that much of a stretch I wouldn't have thought.

Pisher played well, but I'm still not sold on the guy...I noted that his pre-season was patchy, but he did well last night, so I can't complain too much..

He reminds me of Scott Lucas - one of those shleppers that plays well against mediocre teams, this year will be an interesting year for his development.

If he ends up close to Lucas we'll be laughing.

Lucas is playing in a mediocre team, thats why he can't dominate against good sides.

I rate Lucas as a very good player.

I just watched a replay of the Tiges game for the second time. This is the best game I've seen Fisher play. This guy has serious talent. He is very quick at ground level, and his skills close in seem to have improved out of sight. A very difficult matchup, because he is surprisingly tall, and a brilliant one-grab mark, but also great at ground level. Just hope he stays fit. He also seems very quick this year. BTW did anyone see some of Josh Kennedy's sprints - for a guy his size he was generating a fair bit of speed. Seems the running coach has been doing a lot of work over the pre-season. :)

Fisher for his size has easily the best pair of hands at Carlton and maybe in the who league. Thats a big statement but he takes a lot of strong pack marks and i love to watch him play (footy).

He's a magnificent mark. He's taller than he looks and has long arms, helps him a lot when marking.

Sorry to stray off topic again folks (I'm probably not welcome here).. Just thought I'd dig a little deeper into ShlomoGlickstein's fine observation. Checked out the Bomber best players against some of the top sides last year.. started with the premiers, West Coast - Lucas was in our best players. Had a look at our match against the runners up, Sydney, yep, in our best again. I then had a look at the game against the Dogs (preliminary finalists) - in our best again. Was going to keep going, but realized no one on this board really gave a damn...

What's my point?

I don't know too much about Fisher, but after reading ShlomoGlickstein's comments on Lucas, if he's not sold on the guy, I'm about ready to take Brad to bed..

You probably don't know ShlomoGlickstein as well as we do. Don't take too much notice of his opinions.;)

I'm just hoping he stays on the park. If he does, 30 - 40 goals is not out of the question. We need a player like him to bob up and kick a few when Fevola is having a bad day.

BUMP

Go Fisher! With 32.11 to his name so far, he has reached his target. Tut tut to the people who doubted him.

Missed 2 games to injury, and has already passed the 30 mark. You may have to ask him for next week's lotto numbers. ;)

BTW, a big thank you to phoenix_rise_ who found this thread for me when the search function had been down.
