Because that's the rule. And while it exists teams are entitled to a pick.

And I agree I would scrap the compo. FA exists for player movement, the AFL just struggle to do things properly so add another layer or complication they can manipulate.

Based on previous examples, Ellis should have got better than 39.

Let's remember, Franklin was worth pick 19 after a flag, and he got the longest and most lucrative contract the league has ever seen.
The AFL said "that's how it is," so, do fans think Ellis is worth as much as Franklin, or that the league needs to rethink the compensation structure?

They're both unfair but Franklins was accepted because it looked like they just applied the formula that we know of. But then this compensation goes against that precedent, so it looks like the AFL are just making it up as they go along.

They get to help their pets, and punish the premiers in one fell swoop. We shouldn't be surprised since they did give the Gold Coast arbitrary picks already.

I dont think the ambassador money is anything near that amount, I remember reading that pendlbury gets the highest amount and it was less than 100k and most are between 20k-50k

AFL seems to keep ambassadorial list secret. No guidelines. I never seen any list. Did you? One of the ways how to manipulate TPP. It would not surprise me at all if AFL use it to help Suns as they refused to give Suns extra salary cap.

Because like every other compensation pick the pick has always been tied to the club's ladder position. It's why Hawthorn got 19 and Melbourne got pick 2 for Frawley because they finished on the bottom.

When you have rules that are more sort fo guidelines, 'what do you think media mate' you get this crap.

20 for Brando is very tasty. 39 for Brando is very weak. But given the contract this is an anomaly. If any any other similar deals go through and they get band 2, then we know it garbage. typical AFL dodgy, verging on corrupt.
