Fair? Probably. Richmond did win a flag.
Equal? 100% no.
If the AFL came out and said ‘considering Richmond’s strength we felt this compensation reflects a fair outcome’ I’d be more then satisfied.
But they’re gutless. They won’t share the machinations that go behind working out compensation. It’s a farce.
There’s just no way this compensation is in line with what others have received in the past.

Yep, the AFL won’t release the rules as they want to be able to manipulate it to suit their needs. I hate the thought of the Tigers getting 20 for Ellis but going on other compos in previous years it just had to be pick 20

Not pick 20 but probably between a pick 25 - 30 I would of thought with the contract his getting up there.
This makes the Motlop compo an embarrassment. Well the AFL is an embarrassment as it is and Damien Barrett can go EAD!
I wonder if this will influence the decision collingwood make in regards to their offer to Elliot , With the expected offer from melbourne being 3 years and would presume on less than $600k as well as Elliot being a year older the pies would be thinking its a band 4 pick which could be pick #50 range

For one, 666 only came in this year after West Coast won the flag.
Secondly, Ellis is an average player worth a second rounder, and you can cherry-pick Motlop and Lycett, but Buddy only netted the Hawks a late first round.
Bit of carry on for what came be described at worst as a slight injustice given the quality of Ellis.
Let's remember, Franklin was worth pick 19 after a flag, and he got the longest and most lucrative contract the league has ever seen.

I reckon 20 is about right. I bet he has a better ouput going forward than Motlop and Vickery.
People like to bag him but he was actually one of our best players in the Prelim Final only a few short weeks ago.
Forgetting the BS comp calculator, pick 39 is fair for ellis.

Definately because of Richmond,Whateley and King even discussed how the new rule would stop Richmond getting numbers behind the ball.
Whateley,all through 2018 talked about “the state of the game” when Richmond were flying,each win,he got more on his soapbox.
Elliot is a significantly better player than Ellis but we are going to less. Sh1t system. Should just be no comp and top 4 teams cant sigh FAs.

That’s not exclusive to Richmond, and thinking the AFL is contriving the rules on the basis of a few discussions between Whately and King is overzealous.

Ellis played better, stood out more when Richmond were average
I'm expecting him to get back to the player he was earlier in his career

It suited the AFL agenda to give Geelong a pick to trade for Ablett. It suited the AFL not to give Richmond a higher pick, that's how it's done, what suits the AFL, surely you didn't expect it to be fair and level? You are a fool if you did
The thing is that shouldnt matter , Without a doubt elliot is a better player but Ellis is getting more money on a longer contract and is younger
Got a feeling that the AFL is diluting the compo pick's given without going public with this.
