Now we need a couple of mature, quality recruits to enhance the team and tie up weak spots. THAT'S how you build a premiership team.

Watch us **** this up again. But hey....with Trav Cloke kicking bags of goals and intimidating opposition backmen, what we worried about?

Ok Galacticman.....lets have a look at how a premiership team is built.

2009 Geelong - Didnt they get Mooney from North 10 years ago. Who else is there? Oh yeh. Ottens who they got in his early 20s.

2008 Hawthorn - oh yeh they got that fat bloke who went into retirement. Oh yeh and that guy who got the hair transplant!!.. They were important to the premiership.

2007 Geelong - see above

2006 West Coast - Chick. Remember he won the game by punching the ball. Stenglein and Steven Armstrong who helped keep the interchange seat warm.

2005 Sydney - Big Bad Barry who was with them for quite a few years. Who can forget Nick Davis. Jolly of course. Yep, they traded for a premiership, but then again they trade to keep afloat.

2004 Port Adelaide - Wanganeen, Wakelin and Pickett. Yep. This is good example of buying a premiership.

2001- 2003 Brisbane. Allistar Lynch and the Scott Brothers who basically spent most of their careers at Brisbane.

so I suppose the teams have traded 3 or 4 times, as we have with Cam Wood and with O'Bree and Medhurst. I must admit that the trades were important to the Port win, but the other teams could have done without them. I wouldn't really count Mooney and Ottens for Geelong because they were traded to build a side, not deliver a premiership.

Anyway, that's HOW to build a premiership team.

I'd say judging by the trade they look likely to sign off on, that youngsters and picks are exactly what they don't want.

Also, the bit about looking at what we lose in comparison with what we gain is exactly why Carlton won't do that deal with us.

The clubs are just reluctant to do any sort of trading with Collingwood. That's what we are up against. It strikes me that Eddie may want to rethink his stance on free agency.

Carlton said they wanted a first rounder in the deal. We scoffed at it.

Brisbane may be offering a different package but I'd still wager a sum that Carlton, if they had a choice, would take the pick and the young defender with plenty of promise.

If it comes down to lack of interest, then they will take either obviously. Hence the deal with Brisbane.

So Carlton gain a B grade midfielder and a broken down old forward for a superstar. I like it.

Can't wait to play them in 2010.:)

Most enjoyable post of the Fev Drama to date, from the delightfully named PumpyChowdown, of the Carlton forum:

Eddie has been the puppet master of this whole thing, pulling the puppet's (Fev) strings since Brownlow night.

He knew that Fev was on his last chance, so Eddie orchestrates it so Fev has a mic in hand and a camera in his face all throughout the Brownlow. You can't tell me that Eddie didn't know what Fev might do, what consequenses that could come of it, and what the outcome may be.

I've been suspicious of this since it happened.

Three things could have occurred:

1. Fev behaves himself and nothing comes of it.
2. Fev does what Fev does and gets traded to Collingwood - massive Eddie win.
3. Fev does what Fev does and gets traded elsewhere - massive Eddie win against his loathed Blues.

Paranoid? Maybe. But sometimes conspiracy theories can be fun.

We can't really shop around a first round pick that is already promised to Sydney. It's clear that the club placed the acquisition of Jolly and Ball as more important than Fevola, and I agree with them. Landing Fevola is an intriguing thought, but also nothing more than a pipedream.

No inside knowledge.....just common sense. For sure, we know Fevola has issues but given EVERYTHING he has thrown at Carlton, they are still RELUCTANTLY wanting to part with him. Why?

Because given his sound body, his quality as a forward, his durability and his absolute talent to kick a football, they know they are losing out. Not only is he a gun but he will play good football for another 3 years at least. Could easily go for 4-5, he's that type of player.

Given our need for a power forward of quality, one who is a genuine MATCHWINNER.....doing what it took to get Fev is a no-brainer.

Giving pick 14 and one of Reid/Goldsack is NOT getting bent over. That's still paying under the odds for the best Full Forward in the business.

It ain't rocket science. It's just that Collingwood, for many years, refuse to take a risk. Maybe that's why we never win flags? Just a thought.

Yes I heard you the first time.

I understand risk v reward and I don't think it's worth it. Most importantly neither do the club. There's a reason for that. Otherwise Fev would have commanded 2 first round picks and a player.

And the Jolly deal has been in the pipeline long before Fev had a good time at the Brownlow.

Not sure how you know what Carlton would take for Fev but assuming you have inside knowledge for a moment, why do you think that offer wasn't made?
Maybe because they didn't rate the addition of Fevola worth it maybe?

He wasn't on offer out of the goodness of their hearts, he's been a headcase for years and it only took most of the decade for Carlton to have had enough of him.

You really think he fits in with us? At all?

On paper it would have been great to have him on board.

Good post again Jimmy, unlike us however you would only need to deal with his crap for 3 or 4 years.

He was never going to be a pie.

Get busy with Jolly and Ball before you **** that up as well.

How were we supposed to get Fev pray tell?

With a bid better than pick 30!

I mean that offer is just insulting.

By they way - I told you we were serious about trading him!

It'll be intrested to see if Malthouse can land one of the other three or four players that have come out and nominated you guys as the club of choice.

Busy trade period indeed!

If you guys (or anyone else) are still intrested in Fev I suggest you might want to lay some cards on the table before COB tommorow. We should have the medicals and three players consent sorted by then.

If not, get on Brisbane for the top 4 next year.

Brown and Fevola in the same forward line for the next 4-5 years? Thats frees up Fev considerably and should see him reach the 100 goals. Also frighteningly frees up Brown as well.

Buddy who?

Ha ha ha......pick 30 he says is insulting........Geriatricshaw and ritshittelly, go on, take it you laughing stock!

Who the Fluff are you trying to kid?
I'll type it nice and slow.

F E V O L A W A N T S T O P L A Y F O R T H E P I E S !

They are shitting themselves and trying to get us to budge!

Still complete silence on the Collingwood front.
Lyon is starting to get a little jittery too regarding the Ball situation.
Seems as though Roos has come to terms with the fact that we'll do whatever WE decide is best for OUR club, and will not be influenced by any other club.

Keep it up Pies...........the silence is doing Carlton, Saints and Swans heads in!

These three clubs could end up with players on their lists, that DO NOT WANT TO BE THERE!

WATCH THIS SPACE!

Pretty confident with Jolly, and almost as much with Ball. Not out and out matchwinners but give us grunt in the middle. Perfect for a Malthouse team.

I think that was the point.

If we were going to clean up Carltons mess is was going to be at a bargain price to suit us. I'm sure we'd have extended that offer a little but it tells you how much we, and almost everyone else, rated Fevola.

ohhhh thats right, your the dude who posted this morning...WE HOLD ALL THE CARDS!

You could have got him, you just had to pay, how much is a flag worth?

The AFL doesnt revolve around Collingwood... you DO realise this dont you?

If you guys want to make an offer then I hope you do pretty bloody soon. Hope Sydney stop umming and ahhing as well and lay something solid down as well.

If the club doesnt hear anything soon, it looks like Fevs headed off to sunny Brisvegas.

You will land Jolly, will do a lot for your side.

Sorry Jimmy, just reading some of the crap by pie posters over the last couple of days, needed to purge.

I disagree on Fevola tho, came with baggage no doubt, but he was your door to a flag. Will never know now though.

Best of luck with Jolly and Ball.

Notice most of the usual suspects have pulled their heads in, funny that :)

In my world it does son.
Good luck to Fev and Brisbane.
You couldn't beat them with Fev in your side and 30 points up in the last quarter of a final!
Go; take it, get your medicals and make it happen!

CFC = LAUGHING STOCK OF AFL!

I've heard this before but remain unconvinced. Maybe, who knows.

He didn't really take you fellas too far did he? Is our list that much better than yours that we've played finals the past few years and you haven't? Even with Fev.

I've been watching BF tell us for years we've had a shit list and now Fev would have taken us to a flag???

We've gotten to where we are thanks to Mick Malthouses coaching IMO, and rightly or wrongly a Fevola type doesn't fit into that.
Micks list management, lack of a ruckman/men etc etc is another question but no doubt about his coaching abilities to me.

Like you say, we'll never know but a quality ruckman is something we've been crying out for.

You need a ruckman agree, you also need a quality forward who is at home when it counts.

Will never know.

Old man got off from the phone to a real estate agent who knows fevs manager well and told him that Fev has rejected the offer to go interstate and that he wants to stay in Victoria with Collingwood being his prefferd option

Taking the piss I presume? Or just trying to keep everyone's hopes up?

Don't want to come across as a prick but seriously we hear this type of shit every day.

What would Fev's manager be talking to a real estate guy for unless he was moving somewhere?
