i hear that man, but think back to 2007. we were a decent side (should've played in the grand final really). this was rojo's last year and morton was a fringe player. at this stage rojo was a much more valuable player than morton and we wanted to win games.

hence playing rojo was beneficial for the side at the time.

in saying that i do believe rojo retired at the right time, we needed to go through a transition phase and he only would've sidetracked us (much like ash hansen).

erm, im afraid not

as much as i like bones the fact is from now on any games he gets is denying one of spangher, emac, jj, brown whoever an important development game.

as a cautionary tale, thing about the idea that the eagles might still have mitch morton on the list if they had given him 10 more games instead of ticking up rojos number count to 158

Mitch Morton?? Seriously, that's your cautionary tale? Give me the 10 Rojo games every day of the week!

I have no problems with playing the youngsters ahead of senior players, even if marginally worse whilst we are in a rebuilding phase. But not all the youngsters are going to make it ... in fact many won't and the way to sort those who will make it from those who won't is by firstly making them earn a game and secondly make them work hard to retain their spot. The good youngsters will do this and West Coast have been very good at rewarding form in their youngsters over the last couple of years. The others will realise that there is a deficiency in their game and either work hard to correct (i.e. Le Cras was made to earn his spot and improve his output) and become a valuable team member, will not quite be up to it and will be cut (i.e. McNamara, Davis) or will find it is all too hard and carry those same deficiencies to a weaker club where it is easier to get a game (i.e. Mitch Morton).

I don't know if he'll play Rd 1, but geez, we could have worse back up players on the list ready to go.

so true.

handy back up at the very least. we know when he plays to his ability he is a fantastic player who easily B22.

if he gets that 2007 form back, it will do wonders for our team overall.
