Brian Cook- Carlton to win at least one flag next 5 years

There’s some sides rebuilding that you look at and think ‘ok they’ve got a few things going for them that MIGHT get them in the mix but they are really relying on a number of other things coming together. Gold Coast at the moment I would put in that category.

Others you would look at and say they’ve already got so many of the important pieces in place and it’s just a matter of filling in a bit around them and they’re flag material, Carlton are in that category IMO

They have been building a premiership list for the past 3 seasons. Their top end talent is elite and across all positions. They have the nucleus there, they just need some luck on the injury front..Not having Curnow for 2-3 years was incredibly unlucky.. he would be the best player in the game had he not suffered such a serious knee injury...their best team at full strength is definitely good enough to win a flag. Their list is in great shape with not many over 30 and the majority of their best players in the perfect age bracket.. If they don't win one in the next five seasons, it's a massive fail in my opinion.
3 years is generous
2013 Cripps
2015 weiters McKay curnow silvani
2016 Zac fisher
2017 Tom de koning
2018 Walsh
These are before the last 3 drafts
It’s 2023

I should have worded my post better..

Over the past few years here is a list of the players they traded for and the free agents they have managed to bring in..this is the group of players the club would hope compliment the guys drafted above and help them win a flag.

i have probably missed a few as well:

Saad
Cerra
McGovern
Williams
Martin
Acres
Hewett
Kennedy

You don't trade high end draft assets and spend big $$ on the players above if you don't believe your premiership window is in the now.

That’s like saying, if he was still there, that North starting building towards a premiership team with JHF.
It’s not at all like saying that.
We are talking about the core thats giving them the best chance at a flag.
Their best midfielder best defender two best fwds have been at the club since 2015 which is the CORE of their premiership team and unlike freo who although rely on tabs Walters Pearce our best for the next 5 years is cox young Darcy brayshaw serong amiss Treacy Fredrick who were all drafted after 2015.
Norths core is McKay larkie zuurhar simpkin

Your 100% correct when talking building through trade and finishing off the team that is around the core.

3-4 good players at the start of their careers isn’t the nucleus of a tilt at a flag. It’s the nucleus of starting to build a side that can eventually have a tilt at a flag.

Those players acquired from 13-16, they’re now reaching or at their peak and now is when, if they make the right moves, it will start to pay dividends

Should be a third column for just making finals. It has nearly been a decade since Carlton last made finals and Cripps has never even played in one at nearly 28 years old. Unless they actually do something, Carlton are in that Melbourne of 2007-2017 tier. Multiple spoons and bottom four finishes, and zero finals appearances.

That Melbourne tier that went on to win a flag?

It's been nearly two decades since your own mob last won a final!

That's true, Essendon struggle to win a final but for the past 9 seasons Carlton has failed to even make finals! That's why I thought it was funny for a Carlton supporter to single out Essendon when the Blues have been objectively worse in that period.

I guess many other sides are in a similar boat, some haven't won a final in nearly 2 decades

Sure. As I have already said, some sides struggle to win a final, and others struggle to even make finals. I think is fair of me to make that point since it was a Carlton supporter who made the post singling out the Bombers lack of finals success.

Singling out the Bombers, would mean other sides have struggled to win a final in that time, yet not mentioned

So, it doesn't constitute being singled out

Is his whole season in doubt?
Actually I thought they were predicting a lot longer time on the injury list. Opening month. I'm feeling better about this.

Zachary Williams is out for the year.
