Wonder how the commute has been for the boys. It looks like early starts so would also assume early finishes?
Spoke with Dunkley. He's absolutely loving it. Says it's the best facilities he's seen and the drive for them is 25 mins which is less than what he had in Melbourne.

They are all (players, coach's, etc) still struggling with it but soon it will become the norm.
How long is it again? I thought it was roughly around 30 minutes or so. If thats correct, l think they need to harden up a bit. People in the community regularly have to travel around that far, sometimes much further. I think the vast majority of people would travel a bit further for significantly better facilities.

Man, I get sh!tty if there’s actual traffic on my 12 minute drive to or from work.

40 minutes providing no traffic. they will get used to it but the change from 5 minutes to work to what it is now will take time to get used to. harden up is a bit tough I think.

When l drive to work it takes roughly 20 minutes in the morning, coming back is with peak hour so approximately 35 minutes. Its obviously annoying, but thats life, there will always be traffic, everywhere you go.

5 minutes it pretty dam good, obviously dependent on where the player lives tho. I don't think it is that bad to use it, 40 minutes l would 100% do every day of the week if l was getting the types of money these guys are getting. Anyway, it's a minute factor, the benefits of proper facilities far outweight the extra travel time and we will hopefully see even more benefits with recruitment of extra players due to the world class facilities ontop of everything else we have.

Were many of them really only 5 minutes? Did they all live in Woolloongabba and Yeronga simultaneously?

Edit: Unless the players/ player lives in Dutton Park. Then they could legitimately be 5 minutes from each of the former training grounds. Puts them a bit closer to Brighton Homes Arena than 40 minutes though.

FWIW I'm bored and Google Maps is soooo much fun on a Saturday night.

This debate is boring, the truth is, it’s a lot longer journey to work then it was. Work use to be in the heart of the city now it’s in the middle of nowhere. That’s reality, those who want to deny it will continue to chip around the edge sayings it’s 5 or 10 mins less then it actually is. On a good day with green lights and no traffic it might be 5mins shorter but that’s all and only on a good day.

Nobody likes a commute to work, not you not I not the players.

Wouldn’t players that don’t like to commute and favour a work life balance not just live in the area? No shortage of decent houses or stuff to do in the area.

The majority of the boys have established their lives and their homes around Camp Hill and Bulimba. How would you respond to somebody saying, hey just sell up your home and shift. What a rubbish thing to suggest. Stop whining mate, just shut up and sell your home mate. You’ll be right.

So let your employer give you a notice period to 1. sell your home to avoid a commute they are imposing on you or 2. accept the commute they are imposing on you. How would you feel about that? Not to mention they are moving from lovely suburbs to the ass end of the city.

Well that is actually how the normal world works. Organisation's make decisions to ensure future success and to benefit the majority. The club is made up of more than the one sub group that you are apparently a self appointed spokesperson for and the remainder are loving it. It appears that you think the training location should have been based solely on the current lists current living arrangements…. Change is inevitable

Aside from one sub group travelling a bit further to work for training and a few supporters who appear to be put out by changing training locations tell me what are the other negatives. I am pretty sure the pros outweigh the cons.

Twisting my words. The argument I’m against is the suck it argument. Put yourself in their shoes and tell me it wouldn’t grind your gears if someone told you to sell your home and move or suck it up.

I am not twisting any words, you came to that conclusion all by yourself. Where you live is a personal choice. Springfield has been on the cards since 2013 and was committed to in 2017. How many on the list were at the lions were at the club prior to that ? How many came after and opted to live in that area knowing the facilities would be moving ? These are the facts….

I am sure that club has implemented a change management program to assist the minority who feel put out but it is a part of life.

As I said the pros outweigh the cons and the majority of the club and staff love it.

I wanna know who doesn’t love our new facility at Springfield at the club now so badly

The best commute you can get in Brisbane and the greater Brisbane area.
Get in your car from home, drive to your place of employment that has free parking.
Nothing in Brisbane is better than that scenario at the present time.

It is the best and fastest way to get from A to B for work in Brisbane.
I think the players/coaches & staff will cope very well with the change.

What suburb they live in is up to them and their family

Didn’t Neale put his place in Coorparoo up for sale late last year.

I wonder where he moved to.
Hopefully not to our nemesis town in Shelbyville ;)

happy season 6 GIF

*- Seriously though, I don’t actually know where the Neale family are living now in QLD.

I miss going to training at Yeronga as I live virtually right next door.. however the club are so much better off being where they are now, both financially and for the football program.

Being a longer drive for players, coaches and staff is a minor annoyance in the scheme of things and will have zero affect on player retention and recruitment IMO.
