What a thread. Footy, Famous five, racism, euthanasia. That takes is to our next topic, is there a God? Discuss.
Thanks for the invitation, I used to discuss this quite a bit on BF, but have been banned from all non footy related boards (except the Health, Training & Nutrition board) on big footy for quite a while now.

I am 100% atheist when it comes to the supposed existence of a biblical/koranic style omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, participatory, judgmental creator. However I do have a view that we are a primitive species and have probably very little idea of the true nature of reality eg. other dimensions, extraterrestrial life... but I see it as natural phenomena that we just don't currently understand.

Tide goes in, tides goes out, never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that.

I had a look at the height of our tall defenders > Andrews 202cm, Payne 197cm, Joyce 194cm, Lester 192cm, Gardiner 192cm.. if you class as capable of playing KPD there's also Fullarton 200cm.

Crows have as their probable KPFs Thilthorpe 202cm, Fogarty 194cm and Walker 194cm... Walker not as tall as I thought he was.

I originally thought we should bring in Joyce but I would go with Gardiner now.

Andrews > Thilthorpe.
Lester > Fogarty.
Gardiner > Walker.

Starcevich > Rankine.
I forget how short Gardiner is sometimes. I know he can play both tall and short but it does still worry me occasionally against the taller teams

Maybe we are just a bacteria inside the body of a much larger being.

It's a joke, there's a creative title for all of our preview threads
So when is someone going to sub in the creative title?

It is hard to develop a set of ethical guidelines that most now would consider acceptable without acknowledging the guiding influence of Christianity.
A recent book The Goodness Paradox is a good start, trying to give ethics an evolutionary basis.
“God is Dead” is a quote from a German philosopher who was worried what might happen in a non religious world.
By the way I am a non theist christian

Went into the Adelaide thread to have look.According to the heading we are still the Brisbane Bears.
I know it's not a big deal but I found it really irritating. If the odd poster does it fine but a thread title is disrespectful
They could at least say the full name. Brisbane Bears Fitzroy Football Club.

IMO you don't have to believe in a judgmental deity to have a moral compass, you just have to have respect for yourself and others... it is innate IMO.

Yeah quite puerile. You look at the stats and the Bears played them 9 times in the history of the AFL. Not much to go on. But I suppose it's easier to swing that mud than look at the actual Lions v crows stats that shows the Lions have won more head to heads. I don't care about the Bears (I realise many here do) and take pleasure in knowing when someone relies on an Ad Hominem fallacy then the argument is already won.

And these only came about with Christian thought. Didn’t exist before

Obviously I’m a touched biased being young and queer but I feel it’s a tad weird to have a moral compass based on the belief of a judgmental deity or religion. Religious institutions often preach axioms or assertions that cause implicit harm on others while talking about the importance of love and assertions.

I won’t pretend like my core moral beliefs of respect, forgiveness and acceptance were not learnt from my cultural Christian upbringing, but I’ve become disenfranchised with the idea of faith being a prerequisite for people to develop such a system. So I agree with you about just needing respect for others and yourself.

I wouldn’t be allowed to exist peacefully in many states within the US without breaking some laws inspired by modern religious institutions. Even in Melbourne there were some not very nice people doing some not very nice signals while holding up a sign branding people like me as pedophiles and calling for my death. So I guess I don’t exactly see the need for it.
