No. I watched it. Grundy had a good 1st half. It was not a million dollar game.
He tried his guts out, could not have done any more. It’s embarrassing that anyone would criticise his game.

He was good in the 1st half. I am happy to be embarrassed if need be.
If you don’t go to the game, you have no idea how hard he worked. TV viewers have a limited aspect.

Please no more Grundy contract talk. His $900k per season is worth every $150k over the $750k we pay someone like JDG or $500k to Mayne. Give me a Grundy and two $100k draftees any day of the week over 3x $350k JTs/CBrowns

Grundy these days is the most consistent player we've had since Pendles. His games range either between "good" or "beast". He never goes missing which is what you can't say for someone like JDG or any of our other midfielders.

Legitimately hasn't had a 'beast' game in two years. But ok.

LOL, and exactly what constitutes that if 23 disposals, 14 contested, 5 marks, 2 of them contested, 5 tackles, 6 I50's 2 R50's, 33 hitouts, 311 meters gained, 9 clearances (a game high), 2 goals isn't it?

Was at the ground and watched Grundy’s running patterns, the pressure he placed on opposition, second efforts etc

Watched him through my phone to magnify taps and often our mids were clumsy in gathering

His tackles also hurt and he drives opposition into the ground - Wines really copped some pain and he is a bull

Grundy was excellent

TV footage would not have captured the quality of his play

If he consistently plays like this for another 6 years, he will give us value

Along with Moore, he is elite

Grundy was in our best 3 yesterday and showed the most effort I have seen this season.
Skills and tapping still needs work - but can't be blamed for yesterday.

Anyone not happy with Grundy's game yesterday now has unrealistic expectations based on a) his best ever games and b) his alleged wage.
I think that's been the case a lot this season. People are wearing very tinted glasses when they watch him play.

He got the vast majority of those statistics in the first half. I said in the game thread that the first quarter is probably the best he has played all year. But his opponent nullified Grundy's influence in the second half.

It's hard to go missing when you are a ruckman. You are constantly involved in the play and have the opportunity to win your own ball. DeGoey deserves criticism but to be fair he gets shocking service much of the time.

He does, but he could also work harder for the ball.

Some elements yes, some no. Of his 33 hitouts, 23 came after 1/2 time for instance. But you've neatly avoided answering the question. Is it any less dominant because there wasn't an even spread of every element across 4 quarters? What more should he have done? From my limited viewing on TV, it didn't appear he stopped working to provide options.

I cannot disagree. His first quarter was fantastic, so I guess a drop off in performance around the ground was consequently more noticeable in the 2nd half.

I get the comments about dropping off in the second half - same thing happened against West Coast after a great start.

Overall his game yesterday was his best for the year, but his influence definitely waned the longer the game went on. Not saying his effort dropped off, but his impact did.

I think we've been spoilt with Grundy. Plenty of ruckman in the competition are involved in the play and hardly get a disposal or clearance. It's not the norm to be putting up midfielder numbers in terms of disposal and clearances.

Grundy's averaging 20 disposals, 13 contested and 5 clearances. That's clearly elite. Take a look at all the number one ruckman of other teams and they all average less than 14 disposals. Only Gawn gets close with 19.

For all the people saying we should have let Grundy go, imagine our team with Darcy Cameron as our number 1 ruckman.

We have been absolutely spoilt. He's been a top 3 ruck in the comp for a half-decade, and is arguably the most durable big man in the whole league.

Spot On.

People expect way to much of him on his Reported Contract

The bloke is being made the scapegoat for our poor season for no reason other than his high wage. Not only has he been in our best 2 players this year, he'd be in the best 2 or 3 performed ruckmen in the league over the first 10 rounds.

Yesterday, he was the best ruckman, the best inside midfielder and the best clearance player on the ground by miles, kicked multiple goals and was a tackling machine to boot. Still, people criticised him.

He is constantly potted because of our lack of centre clearances, but Gawn would be in the same boat if he didn't have elite inside mids at his feet. Our midfield isn't just bad, it's a contender for worst in the league. Grundy is elite, but he can't make our midfield good regardless of how much he gets paid.
