His management has a point about durability, will play 50+ games over the 2018/2019 seasons and his worst effort since established has been 19 games in 2015

I’ve seen a s**tload of footy and I’ve never seen what Brodes did last night. I’ve seen Peter Moore in magnificent full flight, Simon Madden being a wonderful ruckman butnive not seen them do what Brodie can do.
Give him the blank cheque Eddie.

I was at the game and had similar thoughts. Grundy is extraordinary. But like Pendles, we tend to expect it and (wrongly) take some of what he does for granted. We should never do that.

I liked what he said last night after the game whilst being interviewed. Was asked what his thoughts were when Shaz went down, said something along the lines was that he was too focused on the/his game and reminded me what Longmuir said at the mid year review and Saintly Viewed posted:

A real take away from me is the idea that players both on and off the field need to focus on the tasks at hand and not get unfocused. He said no player can be present 100% of the time on field but the better players learn to re focus quickly. An example might be a poor disposal so player thinks about that for too long. Or focus on a poor umpire decision. The lesser player let’s it play on their mind for too long then maybe make more mistakes. The champion player puts it aside quickly and treats the next kick or handball on it’s merits.

He did go on to say that Greenwood felt really bad, and hoped that Shaz would be okay.

And as said in the press conference by Nathan.

Levi cares about his team mates so when it happened we lost two players for a while.

I wouldn't offer any player 7 years.
It's ludicrous and i'm surprised he want's a deal of that length.

5 year deal should be the max we offer on decent coin.
If Grundy wants 7 years and you only want to give him 5 years, then the negotiation part comes down to a difference of 2 seasons. Would you be prepared to lose Grundy for the sake of 2 seasons? I wouldn’t.
The question is, do you prefer to have the best ruckman in Australia playing for the Pies for 5 years plus 2 more you are not comfortable with OR, not have him at all along with an early first round compo draft pick?

We are still a year out from contract time, at this stage it's all posturing and positioning on both sides.

The old game that has been going on since cave men bartered with each other for flint knives and sabre tooth pelts.

Brodie Grundy and Collingwood remain apart in contract talks over mooted seven-year mega deal

Magpies coach Nathan Buckley says there’s “a lot of unknowns” when it comes to long-term deals, as the Pies resist Brodie Grundy’s push for a seven-year contract.

Nathan Buckley has poured cold water on Brodie Grundy’s push for a seven-year deal a day after the ruckman took Essendon apart with another masterful display.
Grundy isn’t out of contract until he becomes a free agent at the end of 2020, but this year’s handful of discussions on a new deal have exposed a difference of opinion.

It is known that Grundy, at 25 and the best ruckman in the game, is chasing a seven-year deal his camp insists is commensurate with a player of his standing and durability.
But Collingwood doesn’t like the length of the proposed deal, has concerns over the longevity of ruckmen and is aware it needs to save coin for its battery of A-graders.
Buckley suggested on Saturday there was too much uncertainty for the club to be locked into such a long-term contract with a player.

“We want Brodie to be a one-club player and we think he’ll play seven years-plus with Collingwood over the entirety of his career, but there’s just a lot of unknowns,” Buckley told 3AW.
“It really is horses for courses, but longer contracts, whether it’s a philosophy or whether it's the club having to find a happy medium between where it sits and what the player wants, but at any given point we need to make decisions that are best for the club.

“We’re going to look after Brodie as much as we possibly can and he’s aware of that as well.
“There’s no real frustration, there’s just a dialogue and a discussion and there might have been two or three conversations over the last nine months.”

Grundy was huge against the Bombers and Tom Bellchambers on Friday night.
He had 33 disposals, 35 hit-outs, seven clearances, six marks and six score involvements and shapes as one of the Pies’ primary weapons in its finals push.

Just get it done, can you imagine if we sign him for the 7 during the finals series it will be a massive lift for the club,JUST GET IT DONE.

He is doing what I recall Dean cox doing when we was in his prime killing other rucks at stoppages and around the ground. Grundy however is built more strongly and is covering the ground far better if my memory serves correct

You do realise that signing him for 7 years puts under salary cap pressure for the next 7 yeras, one player doesn't make a team, I understand the caution

I do understand the caution that 7 years brings but as it does not appear to be over money rather the length of contract then I would just just sign him up.Now that both Cox and Moore are injured it brings home how important he is to the club even more so after we traded Witts out.Like Pendlebury he is tough and durable and on current form he will be getting big longterm offers which he deserves,we may not match the money elsewhere but we would be foolish not to match the time frames of the contracts offered by others IMO.

I agree with the Club, seven years is over the top. Sounds like Grundy's management taking the piss. Grundy is under contract next year so no rush. The kid has stated he loves the club, he won't be going anywhere IMO...

Grundy will agree to a 5 year deal on good money, take it to the bank!

All this contract talk must be having an effect on his game.

Eg: Friday night v Essendon, one errant handball....

:p

He is the one player that I don't want to loose, I'm going to have to trust the club in it's decision, I think in the end he will sign for 5 years, I hope so
