Do you think Goodwin has seen enough to believe he should continue the experiment in the main season?
I think that’s a resounding yes.
Sure & then when the real season starts, he will realise Grundy is not a forward threat. You are more than welcome to bring this thread back at me at half season. I reserve the right to do the same. I am amazed at how many posters on our board are overly influenced by practice match form. I guess Adelaide are top 4 this year?

And we haven't gone early on McStay based on the 2 goals he kicked against Hawthorn in a practice match to validate his FA recruitment?

It's ok to acknowledge that McStay does look better than expected so far for us and that Melb got a steal with Grundy and the Grundy/Gawn combo will be tough to match with our Cameron/Cox combo.
Yes we have gone too early on McStay as well. Lets see how players perform when there is real pressure out there & not just having a blow out.

Been Saying for Years that Grundy should of been playing Forward a Lot More

i agree... irrespective of what's happening now, it should have happened two or three years ago when he was declining as a ruckman and we were in desperate need of a big forward. Bucks was too stubborn to change the plan.

He really didn't actually.
He's a little slow as a forward and doesn't take the big clunks.
We all see things differently and that's OK.
We all would have preferred to keep him but it's what it is.
Happy We got Mitchell.
Midfielders are the ducks guts. You can never have enough good ones.
Ruckmen a tad overrated unless you have a Dean Cox type. He was something else

Yeah he did. He also had plenty of chances to take marks around the ground as the #1 ruckman & be a force & he didn't succeed there either.
Don't get me wrong Grundy has strengths that we could do with. But marking & forward craft wont be one of them. He wasn't worth the money he was earning & that's what cost him his spot on the list.

If you were afforded the choice now.
Grundy or Mitchell?
A no brainer really

No way bro. Mitchell is a machine.
I appreciate your opinion though.
These hypothetical questions really serve no purpose mate.
We chose to trade Grundy so that we could get in the likes of Mitchell and McStay. Also, to ensure the future prospects of the team in terms of cap.

As a player, Grundy is way more valuable that Mitchell.

We didn’t straight swap Grundy for
Mitchell jmac

Yeah he kicked 3 goals but nothing else really stood out in his game. If he was a cheap 2nd ruckman who was playing forward you might be a little excited with his game. But Melbourne are still paying upward of $650-700k a year. You would want a better output than that.

I thought it was Grundy for McStay in terms of cap impact?

Anyway, great player is BG but just not worth the contract his manager bent us over for. A couple years too long and a couple hundred k too expensive.

5 x 800 and he probably would have been a pie for life.

Not really...

Having Grundy in our team now pushes Cox out of the ruck combo.

Having Mitchell pushes Pendles out of our midfield rotation.

Where do we have the most depth and young talent that needs an opportunity?

3 goals is significant by anyone‘s standards. As a ruck its impressive.
