Bryce Gibbs staying at Carlton - Silvagni in the no blinking zone

Carlton were happy to hang on to Bryce. Now, how could that possibly come about, given recent history?

1. We did the right thing by Bell last year. No arguing, just respect for the individual.
2. We moved on Yarran very quickly after giving him one last chance to reconcile things.
3. We forced the issue in moving on Menzel and part of that was for him to be closer to family.
4. We didn't allow Henderson to finish off the year playing, given his non-committal to our club.

Work out what you will in regards to Gibbs but given the examples above, I'd say that we are happy with Gibbs and that Gibbs is happy with us.
I think you're right Harks.

Gibbs has invested 10 years into the CFC and has been one of our best players in that period. I think his real disappointment will be that the Crows didn't pull out all stops and deliver on their promise to get him to Adelaide. When the dust settles he'll realise if hasn't already, that Carlton wanted to keep him because they valued him as a player and a leader of the club - more so than AFC purported to before the trade period.

I just don't see the point in carrying on the angst after the fact. He is on our list and will be playing in 2017. Carlton felt strongly enough about it that they weren't going to let him go for market value so they are happy to work with him and think he is important going forward.

Why plant the seed that he is now a bad egg in our system and is not going to be passionate playing for us? What good does it do except allow people to vent because they wanted the extra draft pick?

We just have to trust in the decision made and hope it all works out. We should all want it to work out too shouldn't we? That would be much better for the club that a group of supporters waiting for it to fail in order to have an 'I told you so' moment.

I don't want or need an I told you so moment. I'll say what I think and if you don't agree that's fine, but don't try and force me to share the same feelings you do.

I want players who will play for the jumper. Being a Carlton player means something and with Bryce's intentions to move it's likely that he won't be fully committed. Even his old man said he's going to try and leave again next year.

He has angered people at the club and as I said has lost respect. Only Bryce can earn it back, we'll see if he can have a great 2017 season and then if he still wants to move, then he needs to include Port Adelaide as an option so he doesn't leave us backed in a corner to deal with muppets who will no doubt low ball their offer again.

And of course we all want it to work out. Just like we all wanted Thomas to be an amazing player for us. What we want and what happens in reality are two separate things.

No doubt a few supporters will be pissed off with this saga, while others happy to move on and glad Gibbs is playing for the Blues.

The way Gibbs plays next year will say a lot about him as a player and more so as a person. Personally I think he is professional enough and has the pride to fully commit to the Blues.... I don't see him as the "spit the dummy" "throw in the towel" type player that Henderson was is his last season.

We all do, but it is naïve to think every single player loves the club as much as we do, and it is ridiculous to expect them to.

I have no doubt some do, ie. Simmo and Doc, whilst to others it is just a job.

Above all else, Gibba is a pro. He will reach a level in 2017 very similar to those he has reached in the past simply because he is a professional and that's what he does.

Well we all certainly hope so.

But let's not forget, how many people were on here saying that Gibbs loves Carlton and living in Melbourne and will never request a trade?

If he has a great year next year, will you want him to leave? By the sound of things, he's going to try again next year. Hard to invest in a player who won't be with us beyond 2017.

Of course I don't want him to leave. Shit happens but...and as long as the club feels it is being adequately compensated I'll look forward to the future with the new kids/players we receive.

You do realise that you then to recycle the same points whenever someone disagrees with you and it comes across as trying to browbeat them into submission rather than further the discussion, so it is interesting you are accusing me of trying to change the way you think.

I'm not sure 'it is likely' is a good starting point as you are arguing something that hasn't happened yet. His Dad says there will be other opportunities but he isn't Bryce so we can't use that against him.

He has angered people at the club and as I said has lost respect.

Who at the club has told you they are angry. We don't know the exact context of what MS3 said about Bolts and whether he heard it from Bolts directly. It may be not as bad as it sounds.

Whose respect has he lost? If not his teammates then it probably doesn't matter at all.

I think Gibbs has to play his best next year if he does seek a trade again as his value and earning capacity will surely diminish if he only plays half arsed like Yazz and Hendo did.
I am happy we still have him and don't hold any resentment what so ever. Afc are a joke and hopefully he see's their shortcommings in a botched attempt at a trade and their lesser perceived value on him as opposed to Cfc. Very happy with sos and co for the stance they have taken :)

I don't wanna get all "when I had kids....." But **** me laughing, hubby is on a boys trip to the US and wifey is at the races , wheres the kid? Sipping margaritas at a Hollywood A listers cocktail party?

Hoping he has a good run with injury because he has shown enough in little glimpses that he certainly could be something "special". Don't like betting, but might just put $10 on him for the 2017 Rising Star - if he gets the game time and plays as a mid he'll be a very good chance!
he's mad quick which is what we desperately need

If I wasn't maximum chilled at The Union listening to the 3 Kings destroying Turn Your Damper Down, I'd run this ******* thread out of town.

It has probably run its course anyway.
