Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

3 way trade being thrown up on SEN. sounds pretty close to me.

Bryce Gibbs to adelaide.
Tom Rockliff to carlton.
Charlie Cameron + ? to brisbane.

with some picks coming our way as well.

Rocky is a year younger than Gibbs and a better player.

We built our side around a bunch of "pick 13's".

The two players that seem to get brought up in trade discussions are Charlie Cameron and Mitch McGovern - a former rookie and a former pick 43. And the other, Jake Lever was drafted at 14!

And yet 13 is somehow not seen as close to the mark? If SOS somehow this god-king of drafting, trading and recruiting then any extra first rounder is solid gold.

Just look at the percentages of success stories in that range compared to top 10. The percentages go down as you go back. Gibbs is a known quantity, quality player in our side and we want to ensure quality comes back. We could luck out, we also have a 50/50 chance of bombing out. Adelaide's success in an area of the draft doesn't equate to competition wide success.

For a contracted A-Grader, who is integral to our midfield unit, Pick 13 is well off the mark.

Rockliff is a good player but not what we're looking for. Questionable character and we want draft picks or talented young players.

Yeah there has been some good players plucked from the rookie draft.

Therefore Gibbs for 2 picks in the 70s is fair...

Only thing right about this post is Rocky's age compared to Gibbs.

Their 2017 first could be 17 or 18. Essentially we are talking 13 and a 6 spot upgrade for Gibbs. I would push for a quality player outside their top 10 since 13 holds no guarantees.

Yeah it could be 18 or it could be 11. It would be a gamble you could win or lose.

It is just an option amongst a few though.

Think i'll just sit back and see how this one plays out from here.

We are going to get a good deal for Gibbs regardless.

would have thought you need experience in the midfield if Gibbs goes? Murphy and Thomas both 29 then what do you have in the way of mid experience, Rocky is only 26 so has a minimum 5-6 years left.

A 27 (28 by the start of next season) player whohas never been AA.

13 seems fair. Because he's contracted some steak knives will need to be added of course - but steak knives don't extend to another first round pick!

You just know if the Crows got him for pick 13 and 'insert useless steak knives here' they would be trumpeting from the rooftops how much they bent Carlton over.

We will enough to get by; albeit it is a blow having Gibbs leave the club.

It may just be a case of two steps (first rounders) forward and one step back.

I'm not completely opposed to it though.

All-Australian honours are just an arbitrary evaluation. Gibbs has spent most of his career in a bottom team which has compromised his chances of making the team. Surely that's obvious?

This argument is cyclical - you want a gun player in his prime, who has three years to run on his contract but don't want to give up anything of value. That is going to bar any possible deal going through.

How bout we just say no to Gibbs and give you 13 for Rockliff?

So has Rockliff to be fair.

How is pick 13 in a great draft 'nothing of value'

A mid-range first rounder isn't enough for a contracted gun, who is currently one of our few A-graders and leaders.

We can get more for him, so we are. Adelaide will part with more than they want to our they won't receive him at all.

Nobody has said it is nothing of value; just that it isn't enough in the context of this trade.

So has Rockliff to be fair.

Different players. Rockliff is an inside midfielder, who accumulates and is rated on his ability to generate play through his contested work.

Gibbs plays an outside role, which is compromised when he doesn't have the inside contingency to assist him. His good form this year heavily coincided with the ascension of Pat Cripps.

I agree, it would be massive loss trading 200 game vice captain for a speculative pick

What are your thoughts on what is "fair" or likely to be the end result?
