Bye Bye Nobles

I don't like to jump to conclusions until more information is put on the table. In these scenario's there are always "insider's" with an axe to grind. Some turn into eddie maguire types that are so invested that they want it to play out their way so they can be smug and say "i told you so". It can get a bit repetitive and nauseating in my opinion.

For that reason I see no other choice but to hire Cameron Joyce as head coach immediately. As an added bonus I hope Walsh's review concludes that Goldstein should be traded for a 2nd round pick.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

For the first 26 games of Noble’s career everything was fine. Then the spray after the Brisbane game happened, and after a failed turnaround against Sydney we proceeded to lose the next 10 games by 47+ points.

The first four weeks were acceptable considering the expectations. Some decent efforts against Hawthorn and Sydney, a win against West Coast, and a huge loss against Brisbane. Par for course with a healthy percentage for a side expected to win between four and six games.

Since then something dramatic has turned and the simplest explanation was that Noble lost the respect and trust of his playing group. The players and support staff around him were adequate for his first 26 games, so the question that Geoff Walsh needs to figure out is what happened in April that caused things to change. List management has been poor, the football department lacks experience, but neither of those things explain why our group has lost its fight mid-season.

People make way too many excuses for Noble. As a coach with limited tactical experience, he was brought in for his communication skills. Yet time and time again we hear about his outdated approach that hasn’t connected with our Gen Z playing list. So people have to ask what he is actually bringing to the table?

After the completion of this review and his inevitable sacking, his legacy will be as the worst coach of the modern era and a fraud who tricked an inexperienced and inept football department into thinking that he was worthy of coaching an AFL club.

2022 was a completely lost year development wise, so a competent coach next year should be able to get us back on track for the expectations that we had at the start of this year. 4-7 wins and a percentage of 65%-75%.
Yeah, while I have issues with the way he's structured us this year and I had some huge problems stemming from early last year about some gameplan aspects, I think the biggest problem is that there is something fundamentally broken and irreparable between the players and the coach

It's why I think it's unlikely that the outcome will be something like what Psicosis outlined above. It appears that the biggest problem is the relationship between Noble himself and significant portions of the playing group

A bit of a No Brainer, this situation.

I have no doubt our approach to the development of the side was methodical, that systems were put in place and internally were adhered to. The will to be strong to "stay the course".

I think the issue is that whilst the systems may have been fundementally sound in theory, in practice they became unsustainable, unworkable.

I feel for the bloke too, but when it's done, it's done.

Pretty sure Walshy will come to the same conclusion.

Oh god yes. If you've never frequented some of our Facebook fan pages you may have dodged some bullets.
haha i count myself fortunate for not bothering with Facebook at all these days. Most North stuff i interact with is pretty much solely on here atm because it's actually conducive to a flowing and healthy discussion/debate. It's too painful elsewhere

It's *en hard right. I have been as dead set against getting rid of him as anyone on this board because I think there are still excuses and cards to be played, and that he deserves the opportunity to coach with a full side and everyone marching to the same beat. I like that he sprayed the team, I like that there was fire in the belly and that he seemed to be coming from a ruthless, well developed system in Brisbane. If that was able to be translated to North footy and we could see that improvement then I'd probably keep making a case for him to stay. I very much continue to believe that us going on for our fourth head coach in five years will be a negative rather than a positive. But

Sonja's statement is as clear a shot across Nobles bow as there can be. No discernible improvement. Whack with a capital W. Walsh coming in is absolutely not to give Nobes a wristy and tell him how good he's going. We've seen nothing in the way of structure and nothing in the way of getting better either on an individual level or a team level. We're getting good and finger ducked every week by bad teams. And not just lightly like after 3 pineapple UDLs at a Blue Light Disco, but the other way

It pains me to say it because I think making this move is probably to our detriment. But I think he has to go. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and it's getting harder and harder to refute people who are claiming the players look lost and unclear on their instructions. I want to stay the course, but everything seems to be pointing in one direction
Well said. I couldn't have put it any better.

RIP Saintly.

Has someone put the tent up?

Buggered if I know what will eventuate from Walsh reviewing the footy department but one thing I’d like to see immediately is Noble departing the bench and returning to the coaches box. When back there I hope to see his head swivelling constantly as assistant coaches feed him ideas and game day changes actioned on the run as a result.

The sight of him sitting sullenly on his lonesome on the bench as we’re bent over and rogered again and again sans lube is doing my head in.

Imagine if Pagan coached from the bench and seeing that head if you’d ****ed up?

Was it the 1997 prelim where Arch and Schwatter had Pagan waiting for them at the race post game? I reckon that was a preview to how he’d greet any current player coming off having turned the ball over for the umpteenth time or having put in a half arsed effort.

I hope the review is comprehensive and objective.

My personal feeling is Noble will be backed in his approach by the review by and large, but I'm sure there will be feedback for everyone.

You have to accept that Noble is implementing a challenging but potentially rewarding team defense in a young (and in too many cases immature) group with leaders who are borderline 22. Most on here do not accept this fact about the game plan despite it being spelled out in multiple press conferences. If the coaches are ticking that off as a group and the leadership group are ticking it off, and Noble has improved on whatever communication issues there were, I cannot see him getting the sack.

There is a lot of bloodlust out there. It would be a shame if anyone is jettisoned for that reason though, including Amarfio or Noble but on the other hand maybe it is for the best - you can only trust Walsh & McPherson will stare the guts out of it in an honest way.

Have mentioned I had the pleasure of standing next to a rickety (not the poster) coaches box during an intraclub circa early 00s.

Heard everything Denis said to players and other coaches. The spray to Paul Hamilton "you told me they were ready" with reference to the younger players was a highlight.

No gifted games under old Den-Den. Not even in internal scratch matches it seemed.

Don't be surprised if we see a Hardwick esc outcome of this review, resulting in a new team around Noble.

RIP Saintly.

If that's the case then it would mean he has the support of the playing group, which would then beg the question as to why general effort has been so inconsistent and patchy.

Thought this too. If Noble has completely disenfranchised the greater playing group then it would be a hard (but not impossible) road back for him if a review deems he's the right man for the job.

And if hasn't disenfranchised the greater playing group at all then a review would probably find there is an even bigger issue either with his competence or the club at large.

Basically if a review gives Noble a tick - then we've got an atomic bomb of a problem somewhere else in the club.

Interesting wording in regards to David Noble...

Walsh, a former CEO of the Roos who was present during their 1996 and 1999 premierships, will work "with" senior coach David Noble and football bosses Daniel McPherson and Brady Rawlings.

Seems like Noble will have a say in assisting Walsh..

Not if you accept they're undertaking a challenging phase of gameplan implementation regarding defencd with significant cognitive overload among an immature group. I.e. what has been alluded to in 4-5 press conference now.

In between interviewing people and doing research Walsh would be shadowing the major players, that all I take it to mean.
