Can Port win a premiership under Ken Hinkley?

I have to agree with you on a few points.

Got this port Adelaide side in regular finals spots.

Never had less than 10 wins . I don't think port Adelaide have finished bottom 4 or bottom 6 since 2013.

I have been copped poo for this. Considering since 2012 where it's 18 teams and 8 finals spots, 5 finals wins from 2013-21 isn't bad.

Hell Hinkley could be freos coach for 10-12 years . I would be happy if Hinkley went to Freo and won 3 or 4 finals in a 12 year period. If that means 6 or 7 Elim finals in a 12 year period, it's not bad
You would be happy to accept mediocrity for a decade? Really?

Well it's all relative isn't it, you go for Freo so mediocrity is an improvement isn't it.

I hate how after listening to Kenny's instructions perfectly for Q1, the players decided they could do it themselves for the rest of the game. Kenny had them humming.

So the senior coach has nothing to do with the mental attitude of the players? A coach that's been there for literally their entire careers and has worked through several different lists. The same mentally weak collapses during big games and big moments. That's nothing to do with the loser mentality senior coach who spends a decade talking up how scary the opposition is?

His good h&A record is a myth propped up by an almost perfect winning record against the gold coast, norf and st Kilda. Almost 30 wins there.

He's a complete loser and has bred the most mentally weak side in the comp. Stop making excuses for this colossal failure. You know you wouldn't accept it at your club.

Terrible coaching performance today from Josh Carr.

Ken deserves better help.

Talentless hacks not mentally weak.
How does that differ to Port's backline and forward line?
Elite midfield with crap at either end, propped up by Ken's brilliant coaching.

Would you replace Justin Longmuir with Ken Hinkley if given the chance?
Tough Call.... for once I am 50-50 on it.

I want Justin Longmuir to have some success as a dockers coach. He is a Former dockers player too.

Would Hinkley be an upgrade? I dont know.

But if He emulates his finals success like Port in 2013-23, thats a solid run.

Um well... Here is the thing....

So you say Ken Hinkleys finals era of 2013-21 is "mediocrity" right? I think thats a solid run. 5 finals wins in 9 years is solid, despite the lack of flag or grand final appearances.

A sustained finals run in 2013-4, finals in 2017, sustained finals run in 2020-21 and finals in 2023 is solid.

Hell you could take away the 2013 elim final vs magpies and 2014 semi final vs Freo, I still say its a Still solid finals run. Even if its only 3 finals wins between 2013-23. Port has not bottomed out and recruited well. They are not exactly in "no mans land".

Hell I would even say this... I wouldnt mind Ken Hinkley or freos current coach in Justin Longmuir have a stint Like Brad Scotts stint at North Melbourne from 2010-2019.

never did finish top 4 ladder wise. But 4 finals wins in 10 seasons isnt bad. yeah they were in just that 2014-16 period, but at least it was a sustained finals run.

Mediocrity for me is Freos 1st 17th years in the comp from 1995-2011. only in 2003, 2006 and 2010 freo made finals.

Our list rebuild was compromised by GWS and GC coming into the AFL. Ken took over a club that had tarps on seats and danielle (dean) laidley as an assistant but over skype.

We never fully bottomed out/fell to a low position under him, which would seem the higher ups at the club were happy with.

My point is to go through most other premiership teams, there list build had some advantages which we never truly got. The reason why we never truely had a top tier list is because we havnt bottomed out and when we did we never got priority picks, F/S, academy picks and were recruiting in the most compromised drafts in AFL history.

Im not saying keeping ken in the answer but I am also unsure letting him go is either.

There is a reason why a club like Geelong won multiple premierships over last decade and a half, and with multiple coaches.

Does North look better under clarko at the moment?
your point?

So was everyone else.... Some sides managed to nail their drafts.

West coast in that 2010 draft got Andrew Gaff, Scott Lycett, Jack Darling and Jeremy McGovern. 3 of those 4 blokes played in the 2018 premiership squad.

Dockers in 2011 got Tom Sheridan, Hayden Crozier, Lachie Neale and Cam Sutcliffe. Neale won a brownlow, just not at freo.

he wasnt a serial loser in 2013-4 finals series wasnt he? what changed?
2014, Injection of youth, some decent trades, run and gun football style, high calibre players reaching their peak and an fitness advantage that ran over teams.

Then 2015 onwards, Hinkleyball was introduced. See thread on the Port board describing what Hinkleyball is all about.
