Can Port win a premiership under Ken Hinkley?

LOL

If Hinkley was capable of 'steeling the players to overachieve' in a finals series under any circumstances, this thread wouldn't exist. And you wildly overestimate your club if you consider 2nd scraping over the line in a home final against 7th because Missily choked under pressure to be 'overachieving'.

If you win because of pressure rather than skills...yeah, that's overachieving.

This isn't about KH any more, who's making these calls at Power?
Why is he still there?
Why hasn't the list been scoured of the flat track bullies that Power like to play?

It's been going too long now to blame KH. Or the players......SACK the #@$%en Administration!

Well done to Ken. Week 3 finals with a bog average squad is a successful season.

Sweet, Soldo, BZT and Ratugolea is shit trading. Evans, Narkle, Dixon, Marshall, McEntee are delist worthy players who've played this finals period.

Needs better players to win it all.

David King good point about Houston and Farrell. You don't need that at this time of year.

Only lost by 6 goals to the best team all year.

Still there's some guys in that team that aren't quite good enough.

I think he is a good coach but it's probably time to move on and try at another team and for Port to try with fresh leadership.

With Will Day or Sam Frost we would have won last week.

A developed side should be able to handle a couple of outs.

Also lost by "only" nearly goals at home.

Hinkley's record in home finals is about as bad as it gets.

Not only are Port the higher ranking team for all those finals but every single time they have had a genuine home ground and travel advantage.

Here's how he stacks up against all other teams since Port joined the league:

(Grand Finals excluded)

It's worse when you remember that a lot of the teams don't actually play finals at their home grounds or face opponents that share their ground or who have not had to travel. This includes the likes of West Coast, Adelaide and Brisbane who had to 'host' Vic clubs at the MCG because of the old contract situation as well as those who had to play finals in 2020 and 2021 in other states.
They only just got over the line versus 7th at home then went full rooster mode and carried on like they won the flag.

the AFL commission owns and controls the club and they have Koch and co. keeping us exactly where the league wants us

Upon reflection.

There is no better time to stick fat with a coach then now. Power fans just need to stick fat.

Power fans need to think big picture. You finished second for christ sakes. Had you won the first final and got yourselves a home final you would be in the granny.
Very soft fixture. The sooner we play everyone once, no stupid gather round, double match ups against weak teams or the opposite, up to a decade for some clubs to play some teams at certain venues. Then finishing 2nd on the ladder will then be accurate to performance.

Koch and Davies (soon to be a pie) are enablers of Ken and they can't be dislodged.

This needs to be spoken about more.

Evans, ZT, Rata, Mead, Narkle are all plodders.
Dixon and Boak past it.
A captain that doesn’t stand up in the heat of finals.

I’m not sure what people expect from this team. A flag? Sure the comp is weak right now but I’m not sure any coach could do better with the above group.

Big picture is he got two home finals and won a home final.

So that's a successful season.

Finishing 3rd isn't bad..podium finish with a fairly average list.

Can't believe they wheeled Charlie Dixon out last night.

Does it make Port fans feel any better when I say that I would take Hinkley as a straight swap with our crappy coach?

I don't see how admitting you're an idiot makes us feel better

We only won 2 quarters out of 12 in this finals series. Sure, other mediocre teams or envious of our position but making up the numbers is no fun either.

Since 2004, Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney and Richmond have owned this competition and that's where Port wants to be. But Ken doesn't have a game plan or formed playing list after his 12 year long jigsaw puzzle.

Not with their current list. They need to move on from Dixon (that was embarrassing last night) and Boak (should have retired last year)

Obvious the coach backed his old charge even when most knew it wasn’t a good idea.

They had too many talls up forward on that small Sydney ground.

Rata plays forward, why?????
Play him down back and leave the two tall approach for Georgiadis and Dixon. They would have been more effective this way. Or omit Dixon.

Agree on your season assessment - think he’s scores a pass with this list. It’s thin and flaky. Their leaders aren’t reliable in the big games at the pointy end either. Their captain chuckling next to Ken last week after his coaches antics after the siren showed the lack of authority he has at the club.

He's been at the club for over a decade - surely he's got plenty of input into the list? Or is someone overriding all his drafting and trading preferences?

Why would the coaches view be prioritised over the list manager? It makes their role redundant. Sure Hinkley would have a say but that’s not his job who they draft and trade for.

In respect to our list depth, we did have 5 best 22 players out last night.

Not many other finalists have that and that’s why those like Narkle, Evans, Mcentee etc have got games all year.

Most clubs depth falls away after their top 25 odd players reasonably quick.

However even if we had our best squad available, the game play wouldn’t be any different. We’d still be bombing it forward to no one. We’d still be kicking to mismatches. It wouldn’t have changed last nights results as history shows, our game plan doesn’t stack up.
