The olympics is the biggest jerk-off of all time.

Too many pointless events make the medal tally irrelevent.

Especially in Swimming

Why are there different stokes in swimming ? Surely getting to the other side the fastest should be the only thing. They dont have backwards running or hopping in track and field. Yet they have 4 different strokes at every distance in swimming.

Olympic walking?

Footy.
I cant believe the IOC gave China the games and now Gosper ( Australian IOC rep ) comes out and states he mislead the media re china and free internet etc.
Sack gosper .
I feel sorry for the chinese people .
The pollution is so bad and you have athletes worth their weight in gold competing in that crap .

I just watched some opening ceremony that wasnt supposed to be leaked out .I typed in google.com then went to korean olympic tape opening ceremony 2008.

China have taken off the www many stories re their female gym competitors being too young .They are supposed to be 16+ but china had underaged girls in and changed their birth certificates etc on some of them .
So with them doing this i guess many drug cheats wont get caught that should be , only a token athlete now and then .

Who did China beat to get the Olympic Games?

The olympics are mostly boring, and just a reason for the general public to get behind their country in a sport they will not watch again for 4 years. As someone else said, they group all the bad sports (the obvious aside) together because they don't have enough appeal on their own.

That being said, I will watch Soccer and Basketball (which I watch normally) when it's on, and there is no better Footy on

I heard Chinese Gov has bought in a new sport its and its got to do with shooting protesters.

:D:D:D

Do you realise you could be put in prison or worse for that comment if you lived in China ?

They just put in prison a man for 5 yrs because he criticised the Chinese Govt re the unsafe school buildings that collapsed when a earthquake struck some regions in china recently and many school buildings collapsed killing hundreds of school kids and teachers.

:)Iam just Interested in how many drug cheats get caught. Wont be able to see anything thru the smog anyway

I see the kiwis have been practising their shooting in smog etc so they get used to firing in the chinese pollution as when the clay targets are released to be shot at the shooters cant see them due to the pollution.

and the england hockey team are wearing special cointact lenses so they can see the ball and so their eyes wont be damaged too much ..

WTF was the IOC thinking in giving the Olympics to such a rabble ?
Were they bribed , blackmailed or just plain incompetent ?

Gosper just came out and said he isnt worried about the air pollution or the humidity .i dislike him immensley .
He isnt competing is he ..
did you know over 400,000 people die in china every year due to breathing problems due to pollution !

Pfffft Olympics. Hearing about Australia dominate yet more sports is always good, but really the only decent sport at the Olympics is Basketball. The rest, as someone else put it earlier, are just a collection of sports to shit too have their own leagues.

I would be more interested in a St Kilda-less finals series than I would the Olympics.

AFL. The Olympics are just a collection of sports to shit to have their own competitions, so they just group them all together.

Spot on. Popular sports like basketball, soccer and tennis are there for "brand management" and the players teach it accordingly. What ignites more passion for these guys, an Olympic medal or a World Cup/Grand Slam tournament?

I'll watch it for the sake of competetive, televised sport and I have a clear team to barrack for, otherwise the Games don't really capture my imagination the way they used to.

I would say, it depends on where your team is placed, pies are out of it, couldn't give two cents about the other 15 teams, except for DT. Personally, can't wait for this season to end, watch the games, the draft and build the team up over summer?

Probably watch a few events where Aussies are a chance for gold.Otherwise
ill stick to footy. Although opening ceremony could be interesting. Being China
they are probably going to let off a shitload of fireworks. All that smoke mixing
with the smog already there, makes it interesting.

I used to love the olympics when I was little, remember staying up to watch LA and Seoul.
Now I just couldn't give a shit. Jeez i'm getting sad and grumpy in my old age...

I have also decided that if an Olympic Gold Medal is not the pinnacle of that sport, then that sport should not be at the Olympics.

I'm talking to you tennis (and football)
