I noticed that Matthew Allan's son is playing for Sandy Dragons this year. Anyone know much about him? This was written about him in the paper yesterday:

40 Harvey Allan

Son of former Carlton ruckman Matthew Allan, he is a developing key forward and ruckman. Has really impressed with his ability to follow up at ground level with his size.

Nice to have another eligible prospect to watch, and a tallā€¦

Really need to cash in on some f/sā€™ over the next few years. Iā€™m sure the system will change but if good quality kids are available, it could mean the difference to staying really high up the ladder over the next decade especially since Tasmania will be entering soon and will wreak havoc on top end talent over a few years at least.

If the AFL change the rules before we get access to Cody Walker I'm going to riot

Matthew Allan was a good ruckman. At his peak he was exceptional. He came 3rd in the Brownlow medal in 1999. Unfortunately he wasn't at his peak for very long. Spent many years in the reserves developing behind Madden, Peaked at a really high level then had foot injuries as well as suffering from playing in a team that was on the down in a big way. Would definitely be keen to keep an eye on Harvey.

Camporeale 1 and 2 plus Walker and possibly Allan is really good for us from a father son perspective. Hopefully the AFL leave it alone. A lot of clubs who have won flags have done really well from it so it would be nice to be one of those. Will give us a bit of a boost when we start losing players at some stage as well.

Lots of names there, fathers weren't just players but very good players, particularly at their peak. Peter Dean was a really good player for us. Simon Beaumont at his peak was as well. I think he made the AA side at half back one season. Andrew Walker was a very good player who, if not for playing in a poor side and shoulder injuries would have been a very very good player. Scott Camporeale was an AA level wingman so there is definitely plenty of hope that these guys will have talent as well.

Peter Dean is my favorite Blues player of my time, just loved the manner in which he played a wonderful defender smart and hard as nails, who shutdown/beat his opponent but was the ultimate teammate/team playerā€¦
A Carlton legend 35, great to see his son coming through along with the other young lads as well..

Peter Dean just misses the backpocket in Carlton's best ever side behind James and Harmes

Thereā€™s such a depth of quality and champion players, even Iā€™m not biased enough to squeeze him inā€¦

If Iā€™m picking from when i started watching Carlton/football in the mid seventies he might just sneak inā€¦

Only concern with the Campo's is their kicking actions. Bit of the Aaron Naughtons about Ben but gosh he can play. Instincts around the ball and his movement very good from when I've watched him.

Lucas similarly ugly kicking action but seems to get far more penetration and speed on his kicks, bit hard to understand from a biomechanical standpoint. Whatever the case he's a very good user in general so hoping the rest of his game continues to build around that.

Interesting, I haven't seen enough of them to get a gauge on that. Their father was an elite kick. Hopefully it's just something they grow out of.

It will likely have changed by then, but not in a way that will exclude us having access to him. It will likely be that we have to pay a more expensive price for him.

If he's as good as advertised then it will be worth it anyway, so no problems here.

Would have been nice to get him on the Scarlett/Ablett Jnr/Hawkins bulk discount price.

You say that, but he'll probably slide from top 10 discussions because he won't be tall enough for KPF and they'll bemoan he can't play much in the middle.

And we'll make out like bandits

But he's already a full time midfielder
