Yes I know that, but I'm saying if hes a top 40 prospect Richmond wont be able to match a bid on him as an NGA player whereas if he selects to go F/S we could match a bid no matter where it comes so it would be far more likely he goes the F/S route.

Anyway I can't see him anywhere other than the Blues in a few years time, his Dad was a Blues man through and through, I expect Cody will be too.
Has gone to several academy days at the club too. Seems like he’ll be a Carlton player if he can help it

Correct - nominating for Richmond NGA as a likely first round pick is the same as not nominating at all, he just goes to whichever clubs calls his name first.

His choice will be Carlton during a premiership window, where his old man played 200 games, and where he has spent plenty of time with our academy...or go to a bottom 6 club, potentially interstate.

Agreed, which is why I find it a bit bemusing that the media mention it at all. Chances of him nominating them over the Blues would be close to 0 yet they've all still been mentioning it when discussing him.

Seem to remember the whole Walker family posting on socials going crazy after the Melbourne final win last year.

Highly likely when the AFL revise the rules on bids and matching bids for FS / NGA picks (for e.g. having to use a pick within the same round as the bid, or within 9 spots or whatever) that the NGA players become fair game again (i.e. can be picked up even within the top 40). Logic being that if clubs are being forced to pay a 'fair' price with the revised system then the academy eligilibty goes into the same pool.

But agree, Walker will be a Blue regardless.

Any controversy/intrigue boosts engagement in footy media, especially when it’s about Carlton. Don’t give them more oxygen with your clicks.

I mean that's a great comparison, if he's got setters talent level. Awesome. Talent isn't what's held setters back. Still remember him getting 30s and 40s disposal games in his first year in the reserves. Just didn't ever really convert the potential.
What did hold him back? I never really understood it.

He's big, finds the ball well. Just seems a bit ploddy and fumbly. I don't think we did him favours having him behind Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett as an inside mid.

I just don't think he had any point of difference. I never really saw anything in his game that jumped out. He was just B-/C+ grade in a bunch of things. Maybe his skillset was ok in the 2s but int he 1s I don't think anything stood out as a strength and he kinda just floated along.

He wasn't overly strong despite being big, he wasn't that hard at the footy, his skills were average, his IQ seemed average, his athleticism was average, his intent was average, his defensive intent was average, average marking, his touch was average... (by average I don't mean bad, I mean just.. ok)

He wasn't really outright bad in many areas, but he's not overly good in a lot of areas either.

Average skills aside, the lack of playing with intent, hunger and competitiveness is the answer.

Yeah makes sense. I think he's a big body, that's probably his point of diff. But he didn't play big.

That's the point I probably didn't make so well. He's big, but not overly strong, meaning he doesn't really play to his size so it's a bit of a wash. Combined with the other attributes that are just ok at best, it doesn't lead to much.

In retrospect it's interesting that setters was taken at pick 5. Possibly was when GWS had a raft of picks and SOS used them scattergun style.

Jack Ison played U18 Oakleigh Chargers last weekend as an under ager, 1 goal, no stats as yet

Don't know anything about him, just that he is in our NGA academy. Can anyone explain what he is like as a player. There's not much online about him.

Nah. He was an outstanding junior and had an outstanding start too. Outside of injury.

Effort. Laconic. Then injury. Just compounded etc.

As above he was an excellent junior. Perhaps an early ACL injury took away some of the athleticism that helped him be a standout.
