Carlton causing finals damage (again)

what ever happens IF we make it history suggests we will put up a good fight win or lose unlike some other teams Roos 12 and bombers 11 even Hawks 10

Maybe you will, maybe you wont.

I think if a side had a poor start to the year because of injuries or some other valid reason and was storming into the top 8 late in the season then perhaps they might cause some damage on the way out. Our run last year ran out of gas a few weeks before finals started so us bombing out was inevitable, especially in a final on the road given our record on the road hasn't been good for a long time now.

I think Collingwood is the only side that has the guns to do any damage to 'any' team in the top 4. The only thing Carlton has done well is rung up the wins against the easy beats and the miiddle of the road sides, haven't beaten any top 4 side. What kind of damage are you going to inflict? Roll over someone like Richmond before getting taken out in a semi? Is that the definition of doing damage?

Yeah I don't think any Carlton supporter will be upset if somehow managed to make the semi finals this year. Nothing wrong with any of our wins either considering the media was certain that North and Richmond were going to belt us.

Do CFC have anyone handling PR, or does everyone just say what the think at the time, with mixed messages coming from the executive, coach, former-captain and other players....and Brick?

I agree. Do you know of anyone we can ask to lend a hand?

Would rather be a slight chance to do damage than no chance...

What are Norths chances looking like?

What part of my post where I said 'Only Collingwood' did you not comprehend?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with making the finals and winning an elimination final, but making up the numbers and going through the motions is different to causing damage.

Even though we were playing like crap at the time, I did expect us to beat Carlton, but hey, we only played one quarter and weren't good enough, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as playing 3 or 3.5 good quarters and losing games.

My posts are not about me believing North should be there, I have said a while ago I don't want us to make the finals this year, otherwise it would trivialise the potential lesson to be learnt about applying yourself for four quarters.

I am just not optimistic about any side other than possibly Collingwood being more than a speed bump to any top 4 side in a final. Even then, I am not optimistic Collingwood will be either, their footy this year is too hot and cold and not consistent enough.

"If you do make the eight, do you think you could do some damage?"

How is a player meant to respond to this? You go into every game with the belief you can win, no matter how much the odds are stacked against you, so he isn't even necessarily lying. What's the problem?

It all gets skewed. Like when Robinson and Armfield were accused of calling Melbourne 'bruise-free' even though that wasn't their own words, it was the journalist's words which the players merely agreed with.

You might accept not making finals at North, but at Carlton and the other big victorian clubs its what we do..

Do you remember in 99 when carlton got into the grand final and North won..Of course you do..Remember who the heavy favourite was that year from early on to win the flag..Essendon..Who knocked them out, and were they not just making up the numbers coming from 6th place...Was that some good damage done or what? Do you think north would have knocked off the bombers that year?

As for your other point, watch the game again, North played well at the start of the match for most of the 1st quarter, and then played very well from midway through the 3rd until the end of the match..But if making throwaway comments about playing 1 quarter makes you feel better about the loss who am I to judge...

So tell me more about North's chances...

Whether you seriously contend in the finals or not is kind of irrelevant to the 5th to 8th teams though. I think those sides can certainly impact on the finals if they really trouble one of the contenders in the semi final. West Coast could barely run against Geelong after the semi final against us in 2011. This gave Geelong the easiest game in preparation for the GF while Hawthorn cruised by Sydney to really trouble Collingwood who were battered from pillar to post in that game.

The reason people play footy is to play finals.

If supporters genuinely think that players and coaches don't spend time weighing up finals chances and checking ladders, draws etc to see if they can get in are dreaming.

Never understood coaches or players who don't want to mention finals, it's the reason why the game is played and the best sort of motivation.

Thanks for the lulz on Saturday Richmond

Are you talking about your Grand Final where you fell over the line by 10 points after playing your best game for the year, throwing everything at a side that stopped playing after the first quarter? A side currently 2 weeks into a heavy training load as our finals spot is guaranteed? A side that, when breaking out of a jog, showed Carlton as the battlers they are?

If that's the game you're talking about then yes I agree, many lulz were had after seeing how much that win meant to your fans who have still failed to realise those 4 points won't save your failure of a season.

Thanks for playing.

Thats some arrogance for a supporter of a side that has won just once in our last 10 encounters (And you were lucky to win that one). If anyone needs to reassess the ability of their side its you, richmond are as mediocre as any oif North, Carlton, Port, Eseendon.

Personally Carlton's season has been over for a while, i'll be quite happy if we just beat Essendon next week.

If it so happens we do play port for 8th in 2 weeks time I'll be content at this point to see someone stand up and play like they want it. If we do sneak in and play Richmond i'd fancy our chances but we won't beat collingwood or any of the top 4.
