Dale has had a taste of senior footy that will do his development a world of good, but he needs a full game and suspect he'll go back to the Northern Blues to achieve this. Would like to think Bell will stay in as we need to be ferocious around the contest, and he certainly brings this to the table.

Bell had better stay in, just the kind of body we need against the Swans...
and we have needed all year...
for all other AFL standard clubs...

He'd be good against the Dees as well.

Simmo will make it, and I'm assuming Robbo will too. I've been conditioned to be pessimistic about Waite's chances, so my gut is telling me that he'll play limited time for Northern for another week.

OUT: Davies, Duigan
IN: Simpson, Robinson

Thought Watson was stiff to be dropped last week but he doesn't make it back in, because, like Richmond, Sydney lacks tall targets up forward especially with no Sam Reid, so Jamo and McInnes should be sufficient. Thornton is handy as he provides a bit of versatility as a swingman.

Don't really understand the love the match committee has for Davies. He's consistently beaten defensively and doesn't provide anything offensively.

B: Tuohy, Jamison, Armfield
HB: Yarran, McInnes, Scotland
C: Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson
HF: Collins, Thornton, Robinson
F: Betts, Casboult, Garlett
R: Kreuzer, McLean, Carrazzo
Int: Joseph, Curnow, Bell, Dale

We match up reasonably well everywhere but up forward-- Richards and Grundy shouldn't have too many problems with T-Bird and Casboult (Waite in would be a massive boost). Eddie most likely gets Nick Smith though, whom he beat comfortably last year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Armfield play a role on Rhyce Shaw either.

Agree on Davies but agree that two defenders for two midfielders is a bit of a stretch, notice changes above.

While I understand your reasoning, I'm not sure our structure permits us to drop two medium-tall defenders in place of two midfielders.

Good point. Despite poor form I suppose Duigan should get a spot over Dale based on that.

Cotchin and Martin are such spuds...

Davies set up at least two goals by delivering the ball inside 50. Think one was the matchwinner.

First game back shouldn't count against Davies who played well on LeCras and Edwards last year. Plays tall and small. You won't hear Brian Taylor mentioning that the 188 cm Davies ran a 15.1 beep and a 10.22 time trial. Such a runner is a good choice as the sub. Need a spare defender and runner up our sleeves.

Injured Blues spearhead Jarrad Waite set for return

The 29-year-old is back in the selection mix and will run out for his 150th AFL match if he can complete training this week.

Carlton VFL coach Darren Harris was optimistic Waite would be ready, after booting two goals from 13 touches for Northern Blues.

"He got through a full week of training before the VFL game and has pulled up well today, which is a very encouraging sign," Harris told the club's website.

"His performance on the weekend was solid across all four quarters. I think the real positive was late in the game, when he was putting a lot of pressure on it and was still able to run and play good football."

Simpson's return to bolster Blues
Simpson was examined by a specialist yesterday and was given the all-clear to resume playing.

''He's got the all-clear,'' said Ratten. ''He'll be in the mix.''

''Jarrad's up for discussion,'' said Ratten, who said the club would look at the GPS numbers from Waite's appearance in the VFL before determining whether he was able to play in the seniors.

Ratten rated Mitch Robinson and Andrew Walker (both with calf complaints) as ''50-50'' propositions to play against Sydney, the competition leader who, Ratten said, was ''in bloody good form''.

''We're just waiting on Robinson and Walker,'' said the Carlton coach, adding that ruckman Robbie Warnock would be available after recovering from a shoulder. Warnock, however, was likely to play in the VFL this week, as he regained match fitness.

AFL will investigate whether Rioli's chicken wing tackle on Warnock tweaked his shoulder again.

Right.

Don't expect Robinson and Walker to play if they're "50-50". McInnes and Casboult could get a rest for White and Waite. Might bring in Watson if they promote Jesse White instead of Everitt. McInnes or White might be a better match up for Everitt than Watto.

In: Simpson Lucas
Out: Duigan Dale

HB: Yarran, McInnes, Scotland
C: Lucas, Murphy, Simpson
HF: Collins, Thornton, Armfield
F: Betts, Casboult, Garlett

Int: Joseph, Curnow, Bell, Sub: Davies

Is more of a Walker style forward than a small forward. At a pinch he could play a similar role to Thornton in the forward line.

Dale only 18 - showing good signs but needs a big pre season and develop his body bit more..

My view on Dale is more around the fact that he is very lightly built and at the moment doesn't give a lot of flexibility if, or in this seasons case, when we get injuries mid game. Not sure how he would go in Thorntons forward line role especially on big bodied player like Rance.

Waite looks good in that package, fit and ready ! Bring him in!

Simmo and Robbo need to get through tomorrow's training and they are shoe ins - Watson almost 100% to be recalled to line up against LRT.

Yeah, looks like he has slimmed down a little, probably due to not been able to keep his training up but he looked nimble and was clunking marks. .. Would love to see him in this week. ..

I dont envy the selectors this week. Big big calls need to be made. Do you keep players like Caz, Bell and Dale, that had a real crack and won for us the last 2 games with their spirit and enthusiasm or do you go back to players like Warnock, Waite, Walker and Simmo who might be a tad underdone? Huge pressure game, imagine being in it in the last and the pressure riding on them. You know that the likes of Tex and Simmo could handle the pressure and you got players like Bell and Cas handling the pressure of the close finish last week. Which way to go? Really really tough call. You would think if fit (as in over injuries as opposed to match fit) Tex, Simmo and Waite would be walk up starts. I dont know. Cant wait for Thurs to find out.

I think you'll find that young blood tends to run dry about the 3rd week... 2 full afl games are a lot especially for Casboult who has missed a lot of game... I think Bell with his mature body is a chance to stay but Casboult against the teams like the Swans will need to be 100% alert and running all game and the raw energy he's brought in might become a bit of a downer in a 3rd game.. I'd say Dale and Casboult will be out and we now know Simpson seems a certain in with either Waite/Walker/Robinson the other possible ins.

I really like casboult, these past few games have been really great for his development, infact i think i prfer him to Hammer...

But we need experience for this game, Waite, Simmo, Robbo et al.

Throw what we have at them

There is no valid reason to dropping Casboult as we'll still need a tall forward/second ruck-man for this week.
Bell is also a non-negotiable and will hold his ground for this week, at least.
Waite and Watson seem very likely along with Robinson and Simpson.

Tuohy Jamison McInnes
Yarran Watson Scotland
Simpson Murphy Gibbs
Collins Waite Robinson
Betts Casboult Garlett

Kreuzer Carrazzo McLean

Bell Curnow Armfield Thornton

As much as we'd like for some of the young guys to be getting games, we can't put this year behind us just yet.

Last night Mrs Simon Wiggins finished 4th in the synchronised diving. Back to the footy...
Cardable - obvious attempt at derail. Meanwhile, can someone tell me who is out for Sydney? Heard Reid and Mumfries so far. Is Goodes fit?

Which is great and all but I don't see him as a medium defender, per se. One on one he'll always be a battler in marking contests. We've already stunted one promising young midfielder by turning him into a HBF (Gibbs).

If Davies has elite endurance, why not try him in the tall run-with role vacated by Jordan Russell? O'Keefe and Kennedy both ran amok last week with 33+ possessions.
