List Mgmt. Carlton's 2020 Draft Thread

Just one last thing on that write up. Note the first sentence under the draft projection:

"Durdin's list of accolades suggest he is a first round talent on paper, though others may have moved past him over the last couple of seasons."

For someone of his size, that tells me he was more influential or a better player when other kids were closer to his size. As others have grown, he has either stagnated or dropped back in the pack. At 173cm and 73kg's, Durdin probably hasn't developed much physically over the past few years and his role at AFL level may not require him to put on much more muscle too. 74-76kg's would probably be his target playing weight at 173cms. This would be comparable to Betts and Puopolo. Just don't think it's a good sign for someone at his size to peak at U16's level and then drop away as other players physically develop.

Reckon we're better off looking for bolters as opposed to sliders. It shows a players progression to advance themselves against their peers.

When l saw Durdins 20m sprint time l became a lot less interested. If you are a pure small forward you need some speed.

Have many pure small forwards succeeded with a 20m sprint time around 3.15 sec?

Twomey's fairly adamant Poulter will go somewhere in the 2nd round.

The reality is opposition clubs will expect us to rise, so if we trade in for a pick between say 17-20, we may not get anything back. The trade could well be a straight swap of picks. To do that, we'd need to sort out a future 3rd to have a complete set of picks beyond the 2nd round in 2021, but I'm sure that could be orchestrated fairly easily.

The other thing to note is that people in industry have been saying next years draft is very strong. If that is the case, it might be worthwhile holding onto our futures to give ourselves the best chance of drafting quality players.

I like Poulter, just not sure we need him. We now have a few taller midfielders. Cripps, Setterfield, Kemp, Kennedy and even Dow who's 187cm. Feel like we need a different type of midfielder. Preferably someone who's better suited to playing on the wing.

I just watched Poulters highlights tonight and my first thought was do we really need that type of player. He’s actually looks quite big for a midfielder. If Carlton are interested l would need to know exactly what type of role they envisage for him.

In my mind the priorities are a small forward and key defender. And if we don’t rate any of those after pick 30 l think we need to look at your general medium sized players who can develop into 2 way runners, work hard, apply pressure and play a role. I see philp in this light.

I really cant believe the lack of interest on the Carlton draft thread about Isiah Winder.
This kid has all the tools thats required to become the small foward carlton need and looks like the perfect pick range that you guys hold.
What am i missing here ?

You're missing that a few posters have mentioned him in this thread and he was taken by us in the board's Phantom draft.

I'd trade next year's first for pick 5 if Phillips is available...bird in the hand. Should be a good AFL quality player and cost a lot less. seems as ready made as any and while he won't have the immediate impact of a Merrett/Oliver, he's costing a quarter of those two
I'd be hanging onto next year's first round pick.

There would seem to be a greater depth of talent in next year's draft which means we either get a very good player in the draft or it becomes valuable currency in a trade for a player we are really keen on.

I guess it depends on how well he reads the ball off hands.

Eddie has shown you can compensate for a slight lack of speed by reading the fall of the ball quicker than anyone else.

Not many Eddie Betts around , Special players can do special things

As the first to mention him here I'm taking an interest.
However the issue I see is that with our first pick we'll probably be looking for someone we rate top 20 sliding through.
Maybe Winder is rated internally high enough and/or no-one else lasts to us.
Our second pick perhaps more likely to use targeted for need.

Playing for Peel he's not someone that a lot of people would have seen very much of or heard very much about. Combine that with his draft positioning and it combines for an "eh, we're interested but he's not the overhyped talent that we're going to spend lots of time talking about."

At the moment, he's just a typical mid-draft smoky. We're so used to speculating over the first dozen or so talents.

If we end up drafting him, which I think is a realistic chance, then you'll see the board go into overdrive on him.

If we can pick-up a couple of players of the calibre of Honey, who we took as a rookie last year, then that would be very pleasing.
Honey hasn't made it yet, but it was evident from day 1, that he had plenty going for him.

No more vanilla footballers, poor users and stat-padders.
We have good development in place so let's take the chance on those with the highest of ceilings.

Profile looks good and could be a good fit for us. I just can’t find any footage of Winder. So it might be a bit of “out of sight out of mind”. Other prospects that we’ve actually heard solid links to in the media are easily accessible and more likely to be available at our pick (besides maybe Poulter). Not sure if Winder will last til pick 31 or if our recruiting team are interested, hopefully they are.

In general I can never find much footage of WAFL colts unless it’s a top 10 prospect.

Some handy players amongst. Yeo, Dumont, Maynard, Hamling & Fritsch with high hopes for own TDK.

Was hopeful for Tom Lamb at one stage. If the WCE’s can’t get a player going, it doesn’t bode well.

Yea, I'd be projecting Poulter to be a similar player to Setterfield. They'd be competing for the same spot. Don't see Cripps, Setterfield and Poulter playing in the same midfield.

Someone like O'Driscoll would be a better fit as an inside midfielder if we were trading up the order.

He'd definitely be one of the preferred options on this board, however, for whatever reason, the three players we've been linked to through the media are Poulter, Durdin and Walsh.

Hopefully we start getting linked with some other players on Monday or Tuesday.

His read, agility and goal sense all look good, which is more important than burst speed imo.

My concern would be he doesn't look to be a particularly long kick nor confident on his left - would pass if he can't kick a set shot from 40m but otherwise I don't mind the look of him.
