poor old hutchy might have to sell a team or two........

Wildcats would be worth $30m+

I was at the Bullets vs Wildcats in Brisbane late last year. Hutchy in the Champions Suite making a run for the half time roast and sausage rolls was hilarious. Actually a nice guy from the 2 minutes I said hi.

Charlie Cameron came to a different game. I was introduced, told him he broke my heart as they had one job and let the nation down. He was not amused…

PWC has opened an ethics investigation (heh, thats rich coming from them) into Sayers, he should not be granted the extra year as club president by members at the upcoming AGM, unfortunately he will most likely get it given nobody votes in these things.

keep kicking carlton people down the stairs, you're really good at it..........

So Sayers as CEO ensured a key client of PwC managed their travel account? Big deal. PwC is not listed or government, it is a private company.

Sayers Group took investment from key business figures and ex-politicians he had a history of working with.

I fail to see the scandal.

AFR up to its tall poppy journalism again.

Hopefully Sayers can use his connections for more sponsors and government funding for the Club.

Some very pointed comments from the ALP Senator leading the investigation into PwC in today’s HUN. She basically says there will be adverse findings against Sayers.

I would archive and post… but I am running late for work.

A senator grand standing to build her profile.

I find it amazing that politicians, who as a collective are fundamentally dishonest, can judge the conduct of others. Appoint a retired Judge or an independent body to review the situation. Then any findings can be taken seriously.

Or can we prosecute politicians for their lies and incompetence? Would need a LOT more judges!

There is already an independent report.

Your link says the review would not examine past conduct but then talks about a shadow culture. Seems contradictory.

If Sayers is charged with a criminal offence or faces a civil penalty under the Corps Act then he needs to step down. Anything else is grandstanding and conjecture.

For clarity, I think what the PwC tax partners are alleged to have done is disgusting. But knowing professional services at that scale well, it is entirely possible Sayers had zero knowledge of the severity of what occurred. If it is proven he had knowledge and ignored it, or worse instigated the strategy, he needs to go. But given the media has turned to travel account deals, I suspect the evidence isn’t there.

I am not going to prosecute this situation.

My view is simply that the wise and proactive move is to not extend Sayers beyond his term limit.

He has done well by us, but given that this is already the end of his tenure on the board, it would be best to handover and let us tackle this season without distractions.

Why nothing has been proven against him, and is unlikely that anything will materialise from this, it had zero effect on last year's outcome at all from a club perspective.

The club now is well placed both on field and equally so off field, it makes no sense to change the current stability we finally have.

Fair enough. I understand this point of view and thanks for articulating it (I’m sure many agree with you).

I guess I came down on the “we finally had a great year, let’s see what stability brings”.

Basically there isn’t much I wouldn’t do for a 17th flag

You don’t think changing presidents would be a bigger distraction?
And who should the handover be to?

Great post .Dispassionate, logical and in the best interests of the club. Unless Sayers knows he is in the clear because it could be a distracting storm

It's not a distraction, the President is usually a fairly background role.

Who is Sydney's President? Brisbane? Adelaide?

I don't know.

Handover to any of the other board members who've been here longer than 2 years.

Greg Williams
Patty Kinnersly
David Campbell
Tim Lincoln
Robert Priestly

Frankly I am more concerned that Sayers tries to hold on if the going gets really tough and it does become a circus.

Most supporters will overlook deep analysis of Sayers’ performance as president or as PwC CEO if we achieve onfield success.

Some might argue that he led an embarrassing coach search, failed to adequately engage other board members on crucial decisions and reinforced the old Carlton approach which had been so detrimental to effective recruitment and decision-making over two decades.

Even if those claims were found to be accurate, he would justifiably take credit and be lauded if we win a flag.

That’s the AFL corporate environment. Those at the top live and die by the sword (and results) … the method is demoted to a footnote.

That is not correct at all, if Sayers is considered the best person to lead the club forward, no reason right now why he should not continue.
He lured Cook to the club and has brought stability and strong leadership in his role.
Until there is a substance to support these past events at PWC relating to him, no reason to consider change pretty sure he has strong support to continue.

The issue is that if there are some strong adverse findings against Sayers, they are going to come down approximately one month after he gets extended for another year.

Now, I know that’s an if. But I would hope that honchos somewhere in the club are running risk mitigation plans in case it does happen.

Every single person close to the upper level of the hierarchy would have questionable moments.

If you are looking for a moral cleanskin, you will be very disappointed
No one is talking about moral cleanskins.

The guy currently under investigation and awaiting findings in federal Parliament is who we are talking about.

The guy whose term has already expired and is asking for an extension while this hangs over his head.

This is just pragmatism. Sayers has got enemies, in the media, in parliament, at his former employer. It's not going away

Not unusual for a president or board member to have their tenure extended

Strong leaders don't react to so called enemies or white noise

If an organisation, especially with the likes of Cook support Sayers during this time and or moving forward to lead the club, I'd say insiders have a better grasp to make that decision rather than the masses who are merely speculating
