Off topic - but I have always had reservations about promoting umpires. Granted, it’s not their fault but the commentators should swerve away from sharing the “razor” nickname, or babbling on about Rodan’s footy or dancing career or Elena being the first woman field umpire.

Umpires are on the spot arbitrators paid for their ability, and shouldn’t become characters. I suspect they might agree.

Teams not until tomorrow, but Hinkley didn't sound like he harboured too many plans of bringing him back in already On The Couch on Monday night.

I did see a post from MFC on FB earlier that was highlighting Petty, whereas the corresponding article only mentioned him in 3 lines ... which is almost as good as a confirmation that he'll make his debut, with the Social Media team wanting to build a bit of interest in their "When the coach tells you you're debuting" video ... home crowd too ... nice touch.

Yeah everyone knows Chelsea Rolfe because she was the first female umpire so that's fair enough and of course Elanie Goul..something-a-rather because she's the first female field umpire which is more significant than goal umpires no offence Chelsea, but nobody learns goal umpires names. They just say they're incompetent because of the score reviews. There's that goal umpire who BT always well use to always bang on about his chest. Though I did forget Rodan but he was a pretty well known footballer and quite distinct looking. I also know that blonde haired guy who tried to give an armchair ride to
Carlton last year, though I haven't had a problem since so no need to learn his name.

Yeah, i forgot the name of the other one. The reason why Chelsea sticks is because she was the first female goal umpire to officiate in a Grand Final, they made a big deal about it when it was announced at the time. So because of that Chelsea tends to stick in people's minds

I wasn't exactly sure, but was the first I remember, maybe she was the first to do an interview in the media or something. Anyway I have noticed there's a lot more out there now. I actually did goal umpiring for a year and it's not fun, well I mean your decisions are so important and at local level the amount of abuse you get is ridiculous. Can't imagine the stress they would go through at AFL level, people can get upset about goal reviews and I think they are pretty confident most the time but just that little doubt and I can see why they check a lot. Field umpiring is much more better in that sense as you can make a mistake it doesn't matter that much unless it's in the last minute and there's a call/non call that everyone remembers.

if they actually spent the money on the score review system id think its great but to have no technology in place is a joke. The AFL is making all the drama by bringing in something that wasnt thought out or ready to bring into the game.

Katrina Pressley. Did a decent job but failed to effectively market herself which she could have done by applying Elvis moves to her goal signalling. Opportunity lost.
