AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Port's forward line has been pretty patched up - you can see it in that list. We had four players from our top 10 play every game, two miss one game, two miss two games, and the remaining two missing more.Port has a bit more of a spread of goalkicking players than Lions,
Number of players with 7 plus goals: Port 15 to Lions 12
Number of players with 10 plus goals Port 12 to Lions 9
Cameron and Daniher the only players to kick more than 40 goals from the 2 teams.
Hopefully they have a solid finals series.
When looking at averages Ah Chee is ranked 9 with Fletcher 10 and Gunston moves up to 4th

To that end it sounds like Dixon is unlikely - he monstered Andrews in round 1 and on my quick math is their second goalkicker on averages.Port's forward line has been pretty patched up - you can see it in that list. Port had three of their top 10 playing every game, but only one of them kicked over a goal a game. Of the players with the highest goals per game, they played 13, 20, 19, 17, and 23 respectively.
Is the doomsday for us Oscar going down?
Happened last year. McStay did well. What would we do this time? Could Daniher seriously do a whole game in the ruck? And how stuffed would our forward line be with Hipwood, a string bean, as the only key forward?
Could we throw Payne in there with his ankle, and put Rayner as the third key back, Lester second key back?
Given Port's pace worries us and they don't have great ruck stocks might not matter this week but...
Would we put Fort as sub vs Dees given Gawn last time? Vs Pies if they have Cox as sub like last time? I have always been intrigued as to whether you could say see the pies play cox as sub, and change your own sub. Is it allowed? Fake an injury to the sub? Cop a fine? Because if cox was sub Fort would be a no-brainer
anyway clearly i have too much time at work haha
The Brisbane Lions have arrived at the pre-finals bye with close to a full bill of health, including positive updates on a key trio.
Lincoln McCarthy remains set to be available for the Lions Qualifying Final against Port Adelaide at The Gabba next Saturday.
The crafty forward sat out of Brisbane’s final match of the home and away season with a calf strain, though was running last week and will be back to full training next week after the bye.
Fellow forward Jack Gunston, who sustained a MCL strain of his left knee in Saturday’s Round 22 win over Adelaide, is also progressing well in his bid to return to play in 2023.
The triple premiership player is out of his knee brace and ‘tracking well’ according to Lions High Performance Manager Damian Austin.
“We have increased Jack’s strength and cardio work over the last week and will aim to have him running later this week,” he said.
“We will then build up his running based on how he pulls up, but we expect him to be fine.

“Will be aiming for him to be back doing some higher speed running, change of direction, some form of skills, & contact progressions in the next few weeks, hopeful he will be a chance for the third week of the finals.”
“Will be aiming for him to be back doing skills, tackling and those sorts of things in the next week, hopeful he will be a chance for the third week of the finals.”
Veteran defender Daniel Rich is the third Lion nearing closer to be available for selection as he continues to overcome a hamstring injury.
“Daniel is tracking well in his recovery and will aim to join in modified skills by the end of the week, with an aim to return to full training by end of next week,” Austin said.
Dunkley. This has been our no.1 concern for a while I think, given our talks have been massacred in recent finals campaigns.
I understand the insurance of fort sub, but it’s a big roll of the dice when your fresh legs are a ruckman.
Do you then play someone like ah chee ruck with same joe contribution. Ah chee basically plays extra mid and negating ruck roll, eg just tackle Gawn if he tries to take it. Maybe some rayner ruck mixed in.
Dunkley.
We lose too much in the middle IMO. I know he did it at the Dogs but different midfield.
we didnt save the boy from bevo just to throw him into the ruck againDunkley.
Rayner and Bez more on the ball?
I think we have conceded Rayner's onball time won't increase this season.
Haven't seen what might happen without a ruckman
If we happen to win v Port it would be absolute insanity to bring back Gunston and/or Rich for a Prelim.... barring a stack of injuries.Great to have McCarthy coming back, but the balance of this piece fills me with terror. Surely not!

Or just so crazy is makes sense
It could be much worse. Try going to an NRL game. Even a regular season game. Extortionate prices for an inferior product. It’s such a outrage how expensive tickets (regular season and finals) are these days, not just for our match but all of other finals matches as well like surely the AFL should consider discounted prices for the St. Kilda vs GWS match at the MCG (other two MCG clashes will be sold out in a heartbeat before public access) as I can only imagine the crowd being 40-50k at most, given the current climate we live in.
Not even two years ago when I watched Brisbane play Melbourne in that QF over my end at Adelaide Oval, it only costed myself $60 (1x Adult + 1x Student Concession) for two tickets combined in Cat 3 seating, albeit it’s a different stadium of course and Brisbane are the hosting in their own state compared to the neutral atmosphere that occurred due to COVID.
Regardless though of my little rant, hopefully Brisbane can get the chocolates over the Power next Saturday Night and set us up nicely to win our first premiership in 20 years
Have you been taking my meds?!Rich to get 30 touches and 2 snags while Gunking gets 4 goals playing full back
Have you been taking my meds?!
I like this. But in recent weeks, arguably ever since the West Coast game when McGovern and Barrass cleaned us up overhead, we've been pretty good at getting the ball to ground I think.anyone think we should try and use Rayner to defend Alir’s intercept game ? Similar to how Melbourne have used Melksham? Both Rayner and melksham are the same height 186cm. Alir 194cm but pumba can use his strength here to our advantage. Keep Alir away from Daniher and Hipwood.
To that end it sounds like Dixon is unlikely - he monstered Andrews in round 1 and on my quick math is their second goalkicker on averages.
Marshall missed the last round but has been struggling with a hip so having 2 weeks off probably a boost for him. I am assuming he replaces Lord.
Finlayson has had a good year but kicked a lot of his goals earlier in the year - i think his threat level might depend as well on how much back-up ruck he has to do. Hayes was ruck last time. Lycett could replace him but at his age tends to come in a bit cold. I think Lycett playing could actually help us.
Without Dixon that roll with a pretty similar forward line to us with Marshall and Finlayson the talls, Finlayson back-up ruck, and a host of other goalkicking threats.
Willi Rioli is in good form, 10 goals from his past 4 games and will lift for finals you'd think.
If you read my post I didnt say not to kick it in his direction. What I'm saying is not bomb it where it gives him a massive advantage. Be smarter and put it out in front of our player or if thats not an option, look at a different alternative. Not kicking it to Aliir IS basically sacrificing a key forward
