Thats true, its a good problem to have.

Its going to be super, super harsh. And I've been a big wrap for him this year, but if you really want Wells playing - does Josh Thomas make way? If we have Adams -> Brown, then I don't really see another option?

It doesnt have to be like for like.

Wells can replace almost anybody and they can shuffle the side accordngly.

Just play him.

Someone will be stiff. I think Crocker is playing his role really well and not only takes his opportunities but positions very cleverly for kicks out of defence as an option or when leading forward always has front spot and clears space behind him for others to lead into. I reckon he's playing his role beautifully. Good toe.

Phillips is much more like for like than Thomas and is playing worse. So I have no idea how you arrived at that conclusion.

Thomas is clear best 22

Not sure why Crocker (and Langdon) always cop heat.
Crocker is because we have two AFL capable players ready to come in and play his role in Elliott and Fasolo.

He’s lucky that Fasolo isn’t demanding selection at the moment but he’s unlucky in that realistically it’ll be hard to keep both at bay. Hasn’t done much wrong and a good problem to have.

Langdon on the other hand is simply a matter of being a player that makes the occasional howler and doesn’t really do a lot to really sure up his position week to week. Can’t see a logical replacement for him though so he stays for mine.

Yeah I guess Thomas is in the frame as well actually. Brown was better than Thomas tonight. The dilemma just grows!!

Exactly right, someone will be unlucky.

I thought Phillips, Crocker & Brown will be the obvious outs. Not much chop today, just ok. Need to get real class in

Adams, Fasolo & Wells look the most ready, then Moore & Elliott the next week.

Sent from my Warped mind

How could you drop Phillips on recent weeks?

You couldn't.
Thomas has kicked seven goals in the last three weeks, the same argument can be mounted for him.

Phillips hasn’t done a lot wrong but no one in our senior side has. At the end of the day he’a a fringe 22 player and if a better option (Wells, Adams etc) is available he’a one of the players that will be squeezed.

They’re the three I’d be looking at most seriously. Maynard is close to being in that group too but I think we know at his best he is clearly in our 22. Needs to start showing something though because I think he is leaning on credits a little bit.

Thats fine, thats what I have been discussing with other posters, who comes in/out. But don't come in with grandous statements just to sound emphatic.

Phillips has been good, as has Thomas, as had Brown.

There will be some unlucky omissions in the next fortnight.

Go through and show me what comment of mine was a “grandous (?)” statement. All I said was Phillips was like for like for Wells and you decided to get all sensitive.

Phillips, considering his recent body of work, as 'fringe 22' is pretty grandiose, IMO, but I apologise if I caused offence.

Its a good problem we have.

I don't think Philips is fringe at all, well no more than 8 other players.

Maynard is an interesting discussion to have as well. Hasn't been setting the world on fire. I'm a big fan and believer but might benefit from a rest. That said his role is not easy to replace, unless Varcoe went to defence.

One thing I would hate to see is the backline shaken up. They are playing well together at the moment and the athleticism of Crisp, Howe and Langdon and with Scharenberg now playing a more key defender role, we are very flexible and extremely mobile.

I would lose Crocker and Brown this week for Adams and Fasolo. Brown is stiff, but Adams is just more seasoned. Fas is just better than Crocker right now. If Fas chooses not to chase and pressure and work that extra 10 percent to pressure then he won't be in the following week because Elliot or Wells will comfortably take his place.

When Moore is fit and has is ready to work he comes in for Reid or Cox, whoever is not holding up there end.

Wouldn't want to see Phillips, Aish or Thomas dropped, they are improving players starting to believe they belong at the level.

No problems, I didnt think I’d said anything even remotely indefensible so was surprised at the reaction.

I think in a team with a deep midfield, and without him having shown any propensity to be able to play elsewhere you have to consider him fringe 22, particularly when there’s a player with more runs on the board across his career (Wells) barging down the door to come in.

In order of our 22 that we have at the moment I would consider, from most “fringe” to least, you’d rank them something like:

Crocker - Brown - Phillips - Stephenson - Cox - Thomas

With Reid and Varcoe experienced players that sit around Cox and Thomas as alternatives being selected on form. In fact you could bundle all of Crisp/Langdon/Scharenberg/Maynard and Aish (obviously a different role) in those conversation as well as players that conceivably go out if they struggle for a few weeks.

It’s a good problem to have.
