Yeah if anyone actually watched O’Brien underperform at the hawks for the better part of the last 10 years, it’s really not ideal that we’re expecting so much of him right now - in saying that he has some great attributes and might thrive but it’s more likely that he continues to suck rather than magically comes good

I think he will do pretty well doggies ftw . Bit Mitch Mcgovern like in terms of playing style and lack of consistency up forward. But his physical attributes and marking should lead him to intercept a lot. Disposal will be interesting to watch though.

No surprise Hawthorn let him go. A lot of the hawks decent talent in there intercepting ability (Sicily, CJ, Day, Granger-Barrass). They are well stocked for interceptors.

He's an upgrade on any other 3rd tall defensive options in my opinion. Particularly more suited to our game style compared to other options.

I definitely don’t disagree mate, I think/hope he will go well and have more confidence in him than other options too but I think there’s a little overrating going on by a few considering his career. Hopefully he just needed a change as talents there and it would help us a hell of a lot

Tim O’Brien was brought in to play intercept defender. Because he can doesn’t mean he is any good. He’s not an excellent 2nd ruck option at all. He’s an average at best forward and hasn’t got the frame to play ruck. Sweet is the only current option yet for some reason we didn’t play him preseason

You might both be right. O'Brien best position is as that intercept defender. The back half of last year where he played there exclusively was best patch of form. I'm hoping that if he has a good run in that position with the amount of pressure we put on the ball he might excel.

The big issue with O'Brien has never been ability, it's the mental side of game that can let him down. If he makes one mistake that can often lead to two & three which eventually leads to poor patch of form.

So what are everyone’s predictions?

Knowing Bevo, after a poor performance we go in unchanged or debut some sort of ineffectual role player like McComb?

There were rumors of a debut last week but no potential debutants in the emergencies, nor a backup ruck.

Martin was also a late change without any explanation.

The lack of communication around our selection decisions is frustrating but I guess we will just have to treat it like Christmas Day and see what surprises lie under the selection tree.

I’d like to see Martin back in. A contested team like Carlton I just can’t see someone like Arty Jones debuting.

Martin was never a late out, they knew at least the day before that he was not playing. The banner for the match was going to be celebrating Martin's 200th but when 7 news crossed to our banner being made last Tuesday night you could clearly see the banner that we went with was already in the process of being put together.

Bevo will realise that its time to play the kids. We need a spark. Jones, Bedendo, JUH to come in.

Whether he was a late out or not, the point is we still have no idea why he didn’t play after being selected in both practices matches.

It appeared that plan A was two rucks but then on the eve of the season that went out the window.

We’d all like to know what the plan was/is.

Doubt selection tomorrow will clarify that.

Ventured onto the Carlton board for a look and boy was that a mistake. Talking about how they are back and set to reclaim their birthright etc etc.

I really hope their players are feeling that same sense of entitlement and have had a few too many gulps of that blue bathwater on Thursday.

All I want is JUH and Jones in. Make it happen.

Would also love to see Sweet and Bedendo but they seem further down the pecking order.

We need some excitement.

At this risk of being told to PO, are you referring to the guy that confirmed he'd almost polished off a bottle of red? If so, perhaps add that for context rather than casting shade on an entire supporter group. To be fair, we do have right to be up and about and excited (albeit with a need to be reserved) after finally beating the tigers.

Looking forward to tomorrow night. A test for both teams, with the dogs rightfully the favourites. Hopefully it's a good, high quality contest.

Possible Charlie Parker debut? Dogs posted a throwaway mini clip on their socials yesterday. Might be nothing in it but sometimes they give a bit of exposure to players in line to make their debuts. Hunter & Roarke’s spot could be up for grabs.

He wasn't named in the emergencies last week so I'd suggest there are others ahead of him - Marra was the medi sub so he might be in the frame.

Shame we have no reports from the VFL practice game so have no idea who played well.

Ha! I love a piss head spouting off .
Having said that, that was a great win by your boys last week.
is it the first win in 10 years against the Tigers? Tables turned emphatically.
