Reason is other players get dropped even if they dont play badly, ie Hutchings, wilson. Yes of course there is issues with structure, matchups etc but he played poorly most of last year and still got a game. He is a jack of all trades and master of none, his ball handling and disposal is poor, not average, poor. Carter has shown more in a few games than he has in a few years. He adds mongrel and aggression but has a maximum amount of tackles in a game of 8. With those poor skills he should be a tackling machine, minimum 10 a game. He reads the game badly and that is why he is rarely in the right position to impact play. Small/Medium Defensive players must be able to hurt the opposition the other way and he doesnt.

Enough of an explanation for you

I agree that the blokes you've mentioned have shown more promise than Paddy, but they have a lot more competition for their spot in the team. I'm not sure what other small/medium mongrel defensive players you would replace him with? There are 3 blokes on our list who fill that spot - Paddy, Brennan and ASelwood. Paddy is ahead of the other 2 at the moment.

And a minimum 10 tackles a game? That's just silly. No one averages 10 a game. And i disagree that all small/medium defensive players must be able to hurt the opposition going the other way. You can easily afford to have one that is purely defensive minded.

Isn't finals performance more or less the single most important metric? He was in the side for around 5 games before those performances, I think it takes a few games before he really switches on. Given how intensive some of the next few games are having a player who performs well under pressure both adds to the team and also help lift others to give their all.

Not if he goes missing or plays badly in the home and away season, and then only plays a good game in a final. It could also be that because he hadnt been that great during the H&A games that when he played ok in the final his performance seemed better than it actually was. I'm not sure if what I'm saying makes sense to you LH. :)

will darling be played at ff or chf? darling was quite effective in a chf role against essendon.
i don't want him stealing goals from kennedy. kennedy will probably get harry taylor, we need to get him this coleman

Kennedy at CHF for most of the game, and indeed most games, should be a lock. That's the natural order of things - the sum total of JK mostly higher up the ground and JD nearer the goal-line is better overall for the team. They can be flipped around to good effect but that should be the default setting. Coleman would be great but over time it is secondary to team performance.

Young players yes, but any player that has 50 AFL games behind them is fair game and should not be regarded as a kid.
Kids are 17-20 max. 20-25 they are grown men and in the peak of their footy career in general terms. Not 100% of them but the vast majority.
Shuey, Masten, Selwood for example are not kids.

23 is the last "young" year imo. A player really sheds the "young gun" or "youngster" tag at 24. Heck, Judd was still a "kid" when he captained us to that 2006 flag, he just developed faster than say Ashley Smith who's also currently 23.
