Agreed. If Fin is ever going to get his chance, it has to be when we have JDG, Sidey & Mitchell out, otherwise when?
He is the logical replacement for Titch. The only other player we could select in his place would be Bianco.
Yes, GC have a strong group of mids, but should we really let that dictate our selection?
They're still young guys of a similar age to Fin, not physically mature like Petracca etc.
I wouldn't question the physicality of either Rowell or Anderson. If Fin plays because Mitchell isn't, he'll be needing a hell of a lot of assistance from Adams.

but realistically if you want your strongest team, you just move crisp and adams into full time mids, and increase time for the daicos boys, before you start throwing a rookie in. Then bring in the fringe flankers and wings such as ginni, markov etc

I'm not questioning the physicality of Rowell & Anderson - they are guns. It's more that they aren't 26 year old+ gorillas like Petracca, Cripps etc.
Yes, Fin would need help, but if Titch is out, it's as good a time as any for him to get a game.

Yep. Our midfield depth is already in the team. In terms of injury cover, it's a flanker like Bianco that I think they might give a few games to so he's more ready to go if needed.

Jen said Fin was training as mid/forward yesterday, so that could be a clue.

The psychology of your average football supporter is an interesting one.

If we were losing everyone would be bemoaning our aging midfield and calling for youth.

As we are winning when some of those same midfielders are set to miss due to injury we'd rather shuffle dads army around rather than give opportunity to a young midfielder for what might only be 1 week.

No one is suggesting a player like a Macrae is of the same quality of Mitchell or a Rowell etc but neither is any of our other options running around in the VFL at present so I see little risk attached should he be the one given the nod ahead of another.

Despite not really thinking he had a future at the level, if we're brining in a mid I'm picking Bianco. This is a massive danger game and obviously we are in premiership contention so I don't want any stuffing around. Pick the most solid option we're sure is going to perform at a certain standard, and I think that's Trent. He's in good form and I back him to have a real crack.

Agree

AFL is fickle like that as a whole. People would be saying we had the post bye jitters if we lost on the weekend. But we win by narrowest of margins and we are world beaters. Must be such a challenging job for the coaching team to keep the players head in the right spot.

Always for giving youngsters a crack. Need that right balance of not too many so we don't have them floundering without the older heads around them. On top of playing them in their natural position so they aren't put out either.

Mitchell has added to us this year but Taylor Adams would relish the chance to spend a big chunk of the day playing inside mid in his absence. Pencil him in for votes if he gets the chance.

Rowell is only 180cm and Finn 188cm. Fin is also 3kgs heavier at 83kgs.
Mitchell as a comparison is 182cm and 83kgs. Adams 181cm and 84 kgs.

A combination of Nick, pendles, crisp, adams with Elliot rotating mid might suffice. Cover the flanks as has been mentioned before.

If Mitchell is out this is a 50/50 game for me. I don’t think our record up
there is great from memory. Suns should be playing finals with their list
Has Elliott rotated through the midfield at all this season? Don’t think I can recall that happening - not sure it’s part of our arsenal anymore

Rowell isn’t huge, but he is a relentless bulldog. Tackles, clearances and contested possessions are his bread and butter. Not as simple as just measurements, otherwise Crisp would be better suited to in & under play than Adams

what have you seen in him at VFL level, to suggest he's improved enough to warrant selection ahead of Finn?
I haven't seen anything really but I'm sure he could come in and play as high HF who could hit the scoreboard and has plenty of strength. What I have a little bit of is MacCrea and if he plays, be prepared for the melts.
Edit, I would even bring in EA instead

This game is always a test up there but again we will be in this in end.
Out Johnson, Mitchell ( injured ) Markov ( sub ) or could possibly be anyone this week
In Krueger, Macrae, Beau

With Mitchell & Degoey out its time to put Macrae in, hasn't dominated VFL but has been pretty consistent all year.

Have I missed something? Mitchell hasn't been categorically ruled out yet, has he?
