fu** we've got some sh*t supporters. Ignorant too. I'd say trying to contain Dixon and Marshall while we're getting a bath up the field is extremely heavy duty!!!
We’re going to be running into these positions without Hamling and Pearce. Like Fyfe says, it’s all up to the midfield and forwards applying pressure and converting their chances.

The second quarter was an implosion. 17-0 inside 50s at one point.

Inexcusable. Of course we were going to be in a bloodbath.

Need to think outside the box and park Lobb down back, ala McEvoy for hawthorn. Even if he spoils or spills the mark, it helps Logue and Cox significantly.

We’re talking about two guys that haven’t even played 20 games together? Logue just played his 26th game on the weekend.

The top defences have played 100+ games together and consistently.
Look at Richmond. Astbury, Vlastuin, Grimes have been a defensive force along with Rance. West Coast with Hurn, Barrass, McGovern, Sheppard.

Fremantle have a long way to go.

Its not just that, Logue in particular isn't built for that role.

Hes the ideal third defender, the guy that one week can pinch hit on a bigger bloke and the next take a Charlie Cameron. He isn't designed to take a Dixon like gorilla and is being forced to do it due to our poor list management and injury management.

According to the player bios hes giving up about 7kg and 7cm which i hazard a guess to say is incorrect. Logue i very much doubt is 193cm and 101kg and even if he is the 7cm in actual height plus another 7cm in reach Dixon has over him is always going to make life extremely difficult.

Tbh, once we get key defender depth, Logue should go middle tbh. Perfect height and speed. His talents is being used at backline for a reason. Once, fingers crossed Pearce and Hamling get back, he can be a bull offensively.

It's disgusting sometimes to see fans of your own club just be vile towards its own players. Cox didn't have an amazing game but he wasn't terrible. He did some decent stuff in the second half. Logue is a 3rd tall defender plain and simple so of course his current role isn't working.

Notwithstanding that I partly agree with you on cox and logue, it's a bit harsh to throw around words like disgusting and vile for criticising players. I quite like reading the colourful criticisms even if I disagree. We're not watching under 11s, we don't need to pat everyone on the back and say 'well played, you tried hard' even if they were shit.

I thought cox was quite good. He's only 21, been played out of position.
The kid has talent
We have Cox, Brayshaw, Cerra and Darcy having played 37, 42, 44 and 28 games respectively. All under 21 bar Darcy who is 22.
Brayshaw and Cerra, touch wood, will have 50 games under their belt and still developing.C
Cox has great hands, marks like an experienced pro. Lots to like. He’s already playing on 100 gamers and actually holding his ground.

But we’re playing 20 year olds in key positions, when they’re normally developing across half back or off the bench under the guidance of experienced AAs like Pavlich, McPharlin, MJ or Sandi.

It’s not like Freo are getting demolished. We have loss by 47 points over 3 games. Could’ve easily being 2-1. Cox and Logue are doing what they can without any leadership nor guidance out there.

Its the list management, Strength and Conditoning staff’s fault in not investing in key position depth nor managing to have 25-30 year old experienced out there enalbing the two to thrive. Off the field is the issue, yet barely any accountability for their faults. Name a more inexperienced backline then ours.

Not just that but I’d hazard a guess his defensive abilities or lack there of are as much to blame for keeping him out as anything

I don't see how our accountability could get any worse. Port had 3-4 goals directly from our players standing around and losing their opponents.

I think Blakely also has a bit of an unfairly bad rap in this department. He was playing in a side where nobody was really accountable (Fyfe, Neale, Mundy, D.Pearce, Hill, Hill, Walters, Weller, even Bennell if he had ever played), yet the focus was put on a 3rd year player to fill the void left in that department by Mzungu, DeBoer, Crowley, Barlow, Suban, Mayne.

Our side was completely imbalanced with the only way that Lyon knew how to coach. He was obsessed with defence, yet had no defensive players to choose from. So he tried to turn Blakely into something he wasn't, I guess cause he was the youngest, and proceeded to ruin him (hopefully not permanently) in the process.

Mine was more a general comment that I don't want a sanitised censored board.
As far as I can recall I don't think I've given a decent spray to any backman on here this year including those two blokes. Why would I when the backline hasn't been the main problem and we have played so many other lazy unskilled softcocks? There's only so much vitriol to go around.

Still thinking of that backline we had from 2012-15: Dawson, McPharlin, Johnson, Spurr, Duffield and Ibbotson. Spurr was the exception. He was a mature ager at 24-25 years old before playing his 1st AFL game in 2012. The other 5 had at least 80-100 AFL games under the belt before the start of the 2012 season.

If freo had their best back 6: Pearce, Hamling, Wilson, Ryan, Logue and Hughes, Age wise. thats a solid backline for the next 4-5 years.

particularly when compared to some criticisms that people make on this board, hardly harsher than takes you see on here

Hey guys,
Sorry for the intrusion and although I'm a WC supporter, being on the otherside of the country I can avoid the B/S and be a WA footy fan too!!

Quite enjoying the new Freo and where JL is taking the team.
Watched the Port game fairly closely and it seemed to me that there were two main reasons for the repeat i50's that Port killed you with.

Firstly as mentioned was the mids but more importantly was the delivery out of your def 50.
In round 2 you seemed to play Bewley a bit more defensive and his booming left foot seemed to hit the target more often than not.
Now he has 16 kicks in that game but only 8 in the following 2 and in the Ess game he was pushing back into the def 50, doesn't seem to have done as much since.

In the Port game I saw Conca back there, IMHO not the answer!! 11 Kicks, no HB's @ 54% DE is not what you want!!

Maybe Acres is the answer, or Hill IDK but I'd like to see your changes get some better skills out of the def 50!!

I'll be disappointed if Serong isn't given a go this week of all weeks. Maybe give someone like Watson a game and ask him to stick to his opponent like glue.
