Which part? I'm sure if either of us could be bothered, we could establish evidence backed timelines.

What people whinge about on this board usually gets addressed in real life a few years down the line from what I've seen.
What the club should do is hire all these gurus from Bigfooty and watch the premierships flow in

Just have a bit of balance *

* the opposite of what I had on Fogarty ( I admit )

Definitely would have played Newchurch

But f1ck me we have some bed wetter supporters

Always thought the worst in the comp , even when we weren’t this bad , nobody whinges like a crows supporter . It’s umpires , coaches etc etc

no wonder everyone hates us haha

Never changing sides though , love us too much
Maybe because, of all the clubs in the comp, we have fewer excuses than most for being in this position. We are not an under resourced club in a saturated market, or a team of ring ins with no supporter base. We are the primary team in football heartland with state of the art facilities and backed by a rich south Australian football heritage.

And we can barely beat ****ing North. Maybe some of us with long enough memories want to hold the club to a higher standard.

Sloane asked on 5aa which SANFL players he hopes gets into the first team.

His response: Frampton, Brown, McPherson, Crouch
I just went back and listened to the interview and that was not what was asked nor what Sloane answered. He said backs wefe very good and mentioned those names and Worrell as well. Not that they were ones he wanted picked

Not saying we’re any good but we did beat North by nearly 10 goals so exaggeration isn’t always helpful

We are probably 1-2 wins behind where I wanted us to be so are behind the 8 ball but we aren’t far off realistically where we should be with this current list talent and age

The coaches , selections and development get some things wrong but some right . Put a microscope over that team tomorrow and compare it to end of last year and it’s already changed significantly with talented youth

Recruiting is a bit of an issue overall though , I’d like to have new set of eyes personally

I get being critical at times , we need to be but not at absolutely everything that the club ever does , not everything is bad

A bit of balance

If people want to play long suffering supporter card then being an AFL footy supporter is probably not the thing for them

You have 0 control over this football club no matter how much you invest , better off having a hobby or get involved at grass level sports if you want to have some influence and control over the results because you won’t get it supporting an afl club - ours or any other

I do think it was the week to debut Newchurch , I find it frustrating that we didn’t given his form and McHenrys injury = perfect timing

The game ended up nearly 10 goals but we are not close to being a 10 goal better side.

Didn't read rest.

Along similar lines, Nicks does not take risks.
Everything about him --- selection policy (especially his love of scrappy triers), bomb-it-in-high-and-deep game 'plan', Dawson at HB, and all of his loss-minimisation strategies show he is risk-averse.

It could be argued that Nicks doesn't have the cattle to take risks (**below), but you'd think the Club would've learned from the errors and failures of "safe" Coaches like Craig and Pyke.
X-factor and risk-taking are 2 features of recent Flag-winning sides.

**above --- as Head Coach, isn't it up to Nicks to develop and improve the cattle he's got? It's clear the Crows' biggest problem is their poor skill level, but I see no sign that Nicks is addressing this. The appointment of Burgess will pay dividends, but the Crows' basics of kicking, handball and goalkicking are poor and I do not see them getting better.
How long does Burgess put up with his brand being damaged being associated with an under performing organisation.

Why not ? They barely were able to move the ball through us , we had 85 tackles which is enormous yet no credit for that on here for such a young team , we almost cracked 60 I50s and we had 2 dominant key forwards including a young star ( my new boy )

We had 20 to 5 I50 tackles which is huge for a team where we are rightly critical of pressure smalls

The score is what it is because that’s what happened

Yes North are horrible and 10 goals isn’t anything to get excited about but that was the margin and it was deserved

The more I think about this selection call the more annoyed I get.

How will Newchurch get an opportunity? He's in form, he's healthy, there are a couple of injuries in his area of the ground, we've got a match with nothing riding on the result. Yet still can't bring ourselves to pick him.

Another week or two into the future and all that happens is we potentially add McHenry and McAdam back into the selection mix. Possibly Cook and hopefully Pedlar too.

What if the next time a spot is available Newchurch isn't healthy? Or has had a couple of flat SANFL weeks (or a bye...), or someone else is in better form?

These little windows of opportunity to take the club forward pass us by.

Was it last year that Kelly got KO'd and was going to miss Round 2? Brown out injured too. So a spot in the backline opened up, perfect chance to blood Worrell. We instead chose to bring in D Mac and get him to play a role down back...

These chances come along rarely. Everything lines up perfectly, there's no downside but we find a reason not to.

They pass us by, the result is SHIT and we do the exact same thing the next time and the next time and the next time...

Fair question.
OR
How much does Burgess have to gain if the Coach learns and grows into a better Coach than he is now (eg Hardwick, Goodwin) and if he's given better cattle to work with and they improve skill- and fitness-wise to be contenders by end 2024, ish?

I'm dreamin', right? :sneaky:

It was a no brainer to pick Newchurch

You can’t get a better opportunity ie career best game and a small forward injured in AFL side

Coaches using data re pressure and over thinking it

Also a little bit of misguided loyalty

Spot on again.
The frustrating thing is that the opportunity opens up, and they still don't use or see it
It looks like a free pass to use an exciting young guy that may have the goods to express his claims in the future
But the coaches don't use it.

C'mon Jenny; you're usually smarter (and better-mannered) than that.
It was not the usual Friday presser. It was even headlined on the AFC site as "Nicks explains selection decisions", which he had never done previously and does not have to.

Some serious flak must have been received for Nicks to come out to justify the selection of one player.
The Club is finally aware that the Campers are not happy and have panicked.

Here: a friendly bet --- if Nicks is still Coach moving forward at this time next year, I'll send you a bottle of your favourite spirit/liqueur, or vice versa if not. Deal? :smilev1:
Deal.
