So since 2014, Carlton have played at Adelaide Oval a total of 5 times (once against Adelaide and 4 times against Port Adelaide).

How the * does that happen?

Partly because they were terrible and Orr and Adelaide were generally in the finals so only 1 match up per year?
Then as we have become rubbish in the last couple of years we had Covid and we’re playing in Bris or Sydney
And I reckon for us they almost lock it in for age for Crows fans to travel too. Have been plenty of times to watch us play them over there over the years

If we are prioritising loss minimisation over rebuilding with no chance of playing finals, we are deadset morons.
It's what Nicks et al have done all year with their crazy selection policies, favouring underperforming seniors ahead of juniors, and playing promising juniors out of position again and again and again. Not loss-minimisation (they're not so dumb that they don't know we're going to lose games), but size of loss minimisation.

Honourable, "competitive" losses mean they keep their jobs. Yes, I am that cynical.

It's been infuriating to watch.

They do lie.

Frampton is good enough for SANFL level, but a clear example of a player not good enough for the highest level.

I'll literally break my computer if we attempt Frampton yet again at AFL level without giving one of the other kids a go first.

I didn't think Frampton played very well against Norwood. I thought he turned it over too much and wasn't anything great defensively. The club may have rated it but I didn't.

Just been reading the Carlton board and it led me to do a little research on the form of our main 3 mids.....who they don't rate.
Wasn't aware of some of these stats but surely has to give us a little cause for positivity....?

Few of them basically saying Laird good, Keays shit, Berry OK.....

Laird is actually elite, and will be AA this year again.

Keays also not shit - is actually rated as elite in many areas this season. Yes his kicking is crap but he gets a load of inside ball and does give us a lot of in and under, out of stoppages and CC's)

Berry - we all saw his breakout game last week - is turning into a gun, and is the no. 1 tackler in the AFL in his 2nd season.
In fact, we have the top 2 tacklers in the league in him and Laird.

Whilst we still obviously lack enough damaging speed and outside run, we do have some bloody good ball winners, and I wouldn't be surprised if this game is a lot closer than many predict, or even a win.

The Crows are ranked #18 in the league for kicks (despite being 11th for total possessions) and 18th in the league for Marks. We are 16th in the AFL for Metres gained (only WCE/NTH below us).

We are 16th in the AFL for Goals scored. In Nicks's tenure we have scored over 100 points 5 times and have won all 5. When we score 90 or more points we are 4-2.

On the weekend - 5 of our defenders (butts, Doedee,Murray, Parnell, Hamill) combined for 607 meters gained and kicked the ball 27 times between them. We have a guy sitting in the 2's who is our 5th ranked player at our club with 13.67 kicks a game, 3rd for meters gained with an average of 416 per game, 1st for rebound 50's with 6 per game.

He averages 3.3 score involvements per game. For reference our other defenders Smith (2.71), Brown (1.73), Doedee (1.67), Parnell (1.57), Hamill (1.45), Jones (1.38), Butts (.87), Murray (.83).

He is also ranked #1 at our club for disposal efficiency at 87.04%. Admittedly its a defenders stat, but he is better than Hamill, Butts, Brown, Doedee, Murray who aren't attacking at all. Smith our most attacking defender sits at 74%.

This isn't 1985. Sure Frampton is a terrible 1 on 1 defender, but we are a better team overall with him in the back 6.

You and Mathew Nicks need to look at the bigger picture. I wish the "team thinking" that allows players like Ned to stay in the side, would be applied to attacking players who use the footy really well.

A good coaching staff would acknowledge our lack of drive and shitty ball use when rebounding from defensive 50.

Didn't we try that last time (with disastrous results)?

Yeah, but do you remember Cripps early season form? In his first 6 games (excluding the Suns game he got injured early) he averaged 33 touches and 2 goals a game. Would be unlucky to only have 15 Brownlow votes from those 6 games.

I don't think Brett Kirk & Brady Rawlings both tagging him would have stopped him.
Surely this would be a good opportunity to use Hately on Cripps.

Agree 100% with Kane.

2 best tacklers in the league is a bloody good achievement. Just need to get some of the others to tackle as well.

We are the #1 tackling side in the AFL, by a considerable margin. We don't need other players to tackle more.

I would prefer our players to focus on using the football better.

Our tackle numbers in the forward and backline need work. Most of the tackles are in the midfield as Nick's pushes players up to pressure but the downside of this is that our smalls aren't in the forward line to kick goals or tackle. It's not the tackle numbers but where the tackles are that's important. I would like to see us win the ball more and by extension have less tackles in the midfield and increase tackles forward and back. Using the ball better goes without saying.

We have the most tackles in the AFL inside forward 50.

On a list of the clubs top 10 problems, tackling doesn't get a mention.

Who's doing the tackles in the forward line? Most of the time all I see is our talls when the ball is entering our forward line. I wouldn't have thought they would be great tacklers.

Last for marks, 17th for kicks, 5th for Handball. Obviously the game plan and kicking needs to be the focus in the offseason. Better kicking will increase marks.

Probably a reflection that we can't hold onto the ball for any period of time, so we need to be tackling.
