an older player could go out for honeychurch with a re shuffle .. Darley has been playing ok and is a good kick which we need coming out of defence so would have nothing to lose playing him
Who? Murphy? Boyd? Morris? Maybe Gia but it was shown on the weekend how valuable he can be. And once again who does Darley come in for? Wood? Murphy? Bontempelli? Higgins? Darley doesn't deserve a game in front of any of these guys.

Darley's not ready to take the place of anybody in the team.

Be glad there's competition for spots, little point giving players games just for the sake of it. Luke Lowden played his first game for Hawthorn a couple of weeks ago following 5 years at Box Hill.

but for who? Hrovat, Dahlhaus? Bontempelli? who deserves to come out, think we'll be playing all of the veterans when possible because
we don't want to kill the kids, especially against a super fit Port Adelaide
just doesn't make sense to me, to bring in Honeychurch ahead of Boyd and have him get smashed from pillar to post
if Honeychurch comes in, another kid has to come out
has to be a balance for how many kids we play at once..
giving a kid a game isn't going to kill him and if it does it means his not up to afl level , bringing honeychurch in against Melbourne is a weak and soft option if his in form and best 22 then he should be playing no matter where it is or against... I won't say who could come out but there would be players to rest or drop, I will admit though this week would have been hard to debut after a win last week so a side that was pretty much unchanged is fair

I have two requests, please don't play Austin forward. and for the love of god do not take Honey as the travelling emergency (unless he plays of course, if so then do it do it do it).

The AFL game is on Saturday afternoon. Whoever the traveling emergency is, should still be able to play the VFL game which is on Sunday.

to say he don't deserve it infront of those guys is wrong because he hasn't been given the chance

Darleys only been putting his hand up the last few weeks, and has got an emergency to show he's close.

Wow, brutal

but agree with most of the rest

Are you really telling me Darley would perform better than Higgins, Murphy, Bontempelli and Wood? o_O

Nah mate there's a time and place when to be a good bloke , then there's the time you have to be brutal and don't hold back
and theres a time and a place to debut these young men

when they're good and ready
to debut them before they were ready would be extremely reckless and irresponsible of the match committee
and this is coming from someone who said if Boyd comes in, Wallis must go out
not like I'm jumping to his defense for his inclusion

anyway

honeychurch not playing by now is a joke unless McCartney has a plan , obviously redpath ain't up to it
Agree with your Badger comments, disagree with your Redpath comments.

It's amazing that Darley played some afl footy at the giants. He ain't physically ready now (so obvious he lacks that mature power/strength/stamina from watching his vfl stuff), let alone a couple of years ago. Gives some perspective on how far they still have to go.

Another quick point. Players can be developing in the vfl as well as the afl. In fact some players are probably best left in the vfl to develop (Cordy, stringer, Darley) rather than at afl level.

Then there are those that are just too good for vfl footy (hrovat, hunter, bonts, honey) that are probably wasting their time a little down there and need to get AFL game time to seriously progress.

Why sould redpath play before cordy/cambell just because he kicked more goals. Isnt the whole point of cordy/cambell to relive minson of the ruck and to push forward.

Oh well, everyone else is having a go....

My impression of Boyd is that by sheer gut busting effort, he does tend to get the ball in time and space a fair bit, and it seems like a couple of times a game, he will be kicking from that space on the wing towards the forward line, and have a real chance to manufacture a scoring shot with a damaging disposal, and either pick out an opposition player who was by himself, or totally fail to favour a team mate with a pass and waste the opportunity. And everyone goes awwww.....

Probably these types of incidents magnify the perception that he is a butcher.

I definately think we are ay better off with him in the team.
Two times better off
Boyd averages 28 possessions to wallis 14 in 2014
Boyd has twice as many inside 50 entries
In all other categories tackling, efficiencies, clangers, 1 % ers, goals, etc they are too close to matter.

If they were the same age the same people calling for Boyd to be omitted would be calling to Wallis to be traded or delisted.

Nothing wrong with looking to the future but lets not get ahead of ourselves Wallis has a lot of development to complete before he can stand beside Boyd in comparison

show some respect to loyal club champions, who with limited natural ability has got every ounce out of himself a d on that alone his example is worth bottling.

Been baffled by selection most weeks this year but not really this week, would have loved Honey to play but the MC was always going to bring Boyd in when right so who else should have missed for Honey? I couldn't really find a bad player last week. Hoping Stringer and Honey play Vfl this week wouldn't be surprised if that is why Darley has been named as an emergency to travel with the team so the other two can stay in Melbourne and play.

I don't think Darley's body size is holding him back the only things I see holding him back is fitness (where i have said in the past will try to link the article later today about our pre-season being that much harder than Gws that he would go home and sleep) and his disposal numbers need to lift as when he gets it he hits a target almost every single time, but at the same time he has been working on his defensive side of his game so i expect him to start getting the balance between the two over the last half of the season would not be surprised if he was a regular next season for us.

Honeychurch should have been in this week instead of Boyd, I agree witg that because Honey has proven himself as a high performer in the VFL.

Darley has not though so why the campaign to have him included?

I thought Darley was only average against Port Melbourne last week.

Don't see why people can complain with Boyd back in, he is one of out best players.

Honey will get his chance. That's the good thing about winning, makes it tough for spots.

Not sure I follow your logic there Josh. Honeychurch who is yet to play a senior game, should be played in front of Boyd who has a proven track record at the highest level, because he has proven himself in the VFL? Its a non sequitur.

Having seen him up close a couple of times now, I get the love that Honeychurch is generating, but the idea that he is ready to step straight into the midfield and replace the likes of Boyd is just ridiculous. Like a number of players (Hunter, Cordy, Stinger, JJ THE PRUDDEN!) he's going to have to cool his jets and continue banging away in the 2nds until he gets his inevitable chance.

Darley has not though so why the campaign to have him included?

Agree. The match committee seem to like to dangle the carrot of senior selection if front of players as a kind of encouragement award, regardless of their status in the pecking order.
