Since 2019, we haven't run out any season and have looked underdone at the start of the year.

Coincidence, but maybe we have been reducing running in a failed attempt to minimise lower leg soft tissue, foot and ankle injuries?

Coincidence maybe that Sheed does a pectoral muscle, builds up running and gets foot hot spot?

Coincidence maybe that Allan has big pre-season, bingo goes the foot?

Coincidence that since 2018, we have looked semi incompetent in regards to injury management?

Coincidence maybe, that we are training at suburban ground that was not designed for full time athletes and is located in one of the lowest summer rainfall areas in the world so it is effing hard and we have these injuries?

Maybe I am just a believer in too many coincidences?
Sheed tore his peck in his draft year.. it was an ankle this year, you’re possibly thinking of cripps

It's so frustrating that these foot injuries just appear out of nothing.

I know it's strange to say, but at least with hammies/concussions/AC joints etc there is some physical impact or exertion in a game that you can point to.

With a hotspot we are just told, usually mid week like this, "he was running around, the next day his foot was sore, he will miss".

Oscar Allen, our brightest young prospect, has missed the whole season due to this.
Surely the whole fitness and injury management programs need to be rigorously scrutinized at the end of the year.
Fremantle, under the same conditions (or is their Cockburn facility better?, or are their methods better?), has not had their season completely derailed like ours has been. What is going on, or is it all just bad luck and co-incidence?

Every year we seem to get back to back home games once. With my WCE glasses on I would say that it is to make sure they can schedule us a Geelong or Brisbane away match in the last round.

However it is probably more likely that in trying to ensure we don't travel back to back weeks and there is always either a Freo or WCE game at Optus each week then they often need to switch up the Home - Away pattern mid season. It is normally straight after the bye or a derby and so isnt noticable.

Edit: Last year our back to back home games were either side of the bye
11 home, 11 away games each season.

But with an 'away' Derby meaning we don't actually have to travel, there is the opportunity to schedule us as the away team 2-3 matches in a row with no travel impact.(rnd 22/23 this season)

Therefore we can have back-to-back home games, usually around the bye week (Freo the same) to ensure the continuity of a game per week in Perth.

Going to be an interesting selection night for a change, with a few players coming back and a relatively healthy list to pick from.

Im picking NN to come straight back into the team, our best player and match winner, It’d be worthless having him play half a game in the reserves.
Rotham comes back too ahead of Edwards with only 2m Peter to worry about for talls, Barrass can cover him while I think Essendon is a good matchup for us to let Rotham loose and play with the same attacking mindset he has shown in the WAFL.

Out: McGovern (inj), Sheed (inj), Williams, Nelson, West (sub)

In: Rotham, Kelly, Naitanui, Ryan

FB: Hurn Barrass Duggan
HB: Jones Bazzo Yeo
C: Gaff Kelly Hough
HF: Cripps Darling Waterman
FF: Ryan Kennedy Rioli
R: NN Shuey Redden
I: Rotham Clark Petrucelle Jamieson West (sub)

Freo had injury issues for years but they finally gutted their fitness team and grabbed the guy the worked under Burgess at Demons. They've been flying this year and a lot of their previously injured players (eg Pierce) are going well. Crabaner still gets soft tissue injuries, but I suspect he's one of those unfortunate guys who can't stay on the park.

I’m told by a Freo staff member that Pearce never trains in order to stop himself getting injured. Not sure how accurate but maybe we need to stop training too

Due to the travel burden our club isn't and in particular the older players aren't able to train during the season to the same standards as others. So it means if we have a ****ed pre season we are likely to have a terrible season. In some ways I think our success in 2018 partially came from having fresh, ready to go players after the injuries of Nicnat, suspension of Gaff and injury to Shep.

All of a sudden come finals we are able to beat everyone at contested ball and in some ways that would have thrown sides out in how they prepared to play against us.

In: Ryan, Kelly, Witherden, Clark
Out: Kennedy (managed), Sheed (foot), McGovern (ribs), Nelson (sub)

Backs: Barrass, Bazzo, Hurn, Yeo, Duggan, Witherden, Jones
Mids: Kelly, Shuey, Redden, Clark/West, Gaff, Hough (wings)
Rucks: Jamieson, Williams
Forwards: Darling, Waterman, Ryan, Cripps, Rioli, Petruccelle, West/Clark
Sub: Nelson
Emergencies: Rotham, Foley, Culley

Kennedy rested, looked really hampered and it’s a short turnaround. Straight swap for Ryan, he can play taller as can Waterman, and the rucks can rest forward more.

Kelly straight swap for Sheed, no point risking making his foot worse.

Witherden for Gov, or Foley, or Rotham. Preferably not Edwards, we don’t need to be too tall against Essendon’s forwards and Barrass/Bazzo/Hurn/Yeo is plenty.

West and Clark to share the sixth midfielder role. Nelson sub since he can come in and do a variety of roles. SPS can come back through the WAFL, as can NicNat.

Culley as an emergency just to let him (and the world) know he’s getting close.

This is a good line up. Fingers crossed these changes happen.

Good point
They alo tend to use those Alter G Anti Gravity Treadmills which take the pressure of the legs. The question is does it also mean that the feet don't get the usage and the tissue surrounding the bones become softer? Technology sometimes has drawbacks that weren't initially thought of at the time.

they've been using those for about 10 years fella, dont think you can use that one as an excuse

Rotham’s change of position only came about because Strnadica, Dixon and Josh Edwards were all unavailable and there was literally no ruckman in the side.
He looked better playing upfield.

I guess my point is that I was hoping they might give him an extended run on, say, a wing. He’s not been much chop defensively for a while.

Yeah agree, I guess they could try him on a wing and send Hough back, but I think that’s robbing Peter to pay Paul.

No point rucking him against Draper and Bryan, they’re both about four inches taller than him.

Sure, but he looked better there than he has in defence in a while, and spent time up forward too. Would've liked to have seen them try play him on a wing or half forward and maybe 20% in the ruck.

Rotham is such a good kicker of the ball. I don’t know why he just chips it around when he has the ball. When he does kick it long, he just lobs it into a contest.

Play him there in the WAFL and play Edwards then. Harry's out of form but Essendon's talls outside Wright aren't much chop and getting games into Edwards doesn't hurt.
