Strategy Changes Round 2 Fremantle vs. Sydney

No way Fyfe plays this weekend after half a WAFL pre-season game.

I see there's a bit of debate around the Reidy v Voss situation. This whole problem is because we brought in Jackson and we dont even know what he is. What is Jackson? I've said from the start we shouldnt have got him. I'm not saying he's not a talented player and wont win us the odd game, but where does he fit? Too small to be a dominant/lead Ruck, not a good enough mark to be a dominant forward, too big to be an inside mid/bull.

As good as Jackson can be, he fills this position in the team that no one knows what it actually is. He's not a jack of all trades, he's average at a few positions without being consistent enough to depend on.

Seems to be clogging an important spot in the starting 22. Creates a lot of uncertainty, yet because he's on such a big contract, we're obliged to have him on the park.

Dead right,Walker has been doing my head in for years. The protection he gets on this site is unbeleviable.I wish someone would put together a Lowlights reel of his clangers,Turnovers Holding the ball etc etc and then maybe people would wake up.I could not see him getting a game in any other afl side, Vanilla to the extreme.Drop him to Peel to learn the basics of the game .AFL is not just being able to run Quickly.
How about highlights of him shutting down some of the best small forwards in the game, the likes of which historically tear us apart?

His job is to be a lockdown defender first, if he's causing issues with distribution then we need to ask the question of why the ball is ending up in his hands.

I'd rather be able to shut down small defenders tbh

It's because we prioritised effort/strength/running/tackling/marking ability over good kicks.

Look how much Reid and Young stand out at our club. Like the proverbial breasts on a bull. Its not brain surgery that in a sport that has 36 players on field, you need good to great kicks to penetrate zones and minimise turnovers.

Look how much Lachie Schultz struggles with disposal compared to his peers at Collingwood. He was about average to good in our side re: disposal.

It's a significant issue with our list, and only further heightened when our best kick Young is out injured.

Go through the list. There's really not many good kicks on it.
Clark, Chapman, Cox, Draper, Ryan, Treacy, Amiss, Sturt, Bolton and Frederick are all average to above average kicks.

For all the talk about Jackson having the ability to be a roving mid, have we ever even tried it more than once or twice?

Don't be silly, that would mean being a tiny little bit creative. We all know JL doesn't have the capability to do that.

My main concern is Jordon tagging Serong, did a number on Neale on the weekend who was held to 10 touches.

Without Young we are already very thin. Hopefully Bolton is in, but not sure he’ll play a heap of midfield minutes. Maybe someone like JOM is deployed as a bigger body on Heeney type, or we bring in Erasmus for an extra in the middle.
Only reinforces the need to bring in more midfield support. He copped a softer tag against Geelong, and did very well to win as much centre clearance as he did.

The whining about his fwd minutes was a bit over the top. It's needed to break a tag, and will be needed against Sydney you'd think. We just need to be able to have other options in there.

Reidy forward and Jackson #1 ruck is creative.

Worner best 22 and Chapman sub is at the very least innovative.

All poor decisions, but arguably creative and possibly what he was hiding from the world during the All Stars game.

My issue with them is there seemed to be no actual purpose behind them. Was Reidy as a forward going to exploit some weaknesses in the Geelong team? Was Chapman going to burst onto the field as the sub and bring an irresistible impact that seals the deal for us? Was Worner going to make Dangerfield look old and past it?

I've got nothing.

Apparently the Sunday times said that Peel were beaten by a stacked Wafl side.
Oh my, it is a long time since anyone said that about a Perth team!

Perth won all three grades which is a positive especially with the colts kicking 20 goals.

Damn, I can feel false hope rising for Perth again!

I was disappointed we didn't see a couple of centre bounces with Reidy in the ruck and Jackson with Serong and Brayshaw in the midfield.

Agreed, but understandable when Jackson was having to play first ruck minutes, second ruck forward duties and mid too?

This was during Ross Lyon time......These day We are more into Vanilla Mumbleberry slices and not reveiling Our highly sicretive strategies to the oposition....They are so sicretive that even our own players don't know what they are any more....

Just have to get one of these Vanilla Mumbleberry slices. Vanilla slices are old hat now.

It’s not ground breaking stuff but I like Simmo’s input in the media, specifically from a coaches perspective and what he used to look for when preparing his team for us.

He was going to say "put pressure on and they'll fold" then changed his mind, but regardless he was right on both counts

I agree that he is best shutdown small forward and does it well. My point dropping him is to tidy a few things up and get his headspace around more intent and toughness back on track.

He seems to be picking and choosing his moment and really coasting in second gear at times. If it takes a good honest chat from the coaching staff m, then all good - because he needs to step up. I can handle a few HTB decisions when he is taking the game on. I can also handle a kick that doesn’t hit the mark when running full pelt out of the backline. That hasn’t been him over the course of the pre-season.

interesting. thats a real positive he thinks we'll fix it. also confirms all my worst fears about the late ross lyon years

Well he was certainly tried vs the IAS, that Vanilla game of ours
Hardly a serious hit out. Rucked against a no body.I can not even think of his name.
Not sure he is too big to be a fulll on mid.He looks good when he has played that role.
He is not a number one ruckman.

If Bolton and Walters come in it will add some class into the forward line.
I don't think they will play Fyfe - he'll need at least another week at Peel. You could do worse than bringing Reid into the game and throwing him into the middle for a while I reckon. Get Johnson to extract and Reid to deliver.

I was really disappointed with Noddy on the weekend. He just seemed a bit gun shy compared to his preseason form. He's got it in him to impose himself on a game of football. Needs to start this week.
Interesting, becuase I thought he was one of our best players in a disastous day.I thought he and Johnson were maybe our best two in a very disappointing loss..

Was it a surprise O'Driscoll got so many CBA's? Didnt seem to get many clearances? Will this likely continue?
Has been playing prominently inside mid for Peel last season. Does get in and dirty so to speak.

Probably surprised given there’s adequate midfielders out that can do that role and allow NOD to stay on the wing
