is Andy playing sore? He lacks atm Wonder if moving him onto the wing and using him as an extra around the stoppage is the way to go as we cant win a clearance with him in there anyway and his 2 way running might be used better out there.
See if Brodie can come back and starting getting some wins
Did he have covid in the preseason? I seem to remember he did and wonder if there are lingering effects

I also wonder if the disappointment of not being made captain is unconsciously affecting him
Well if he was captain now based on the start we having don't know whether it would have been good thing for him.

Think more to do with Brodie has been down and JOM not performing. Missing Mundy's leadership in the middle

I didn’t mind Treacys game. Thought he was part of the turning point in the win tbh
But not as a key forward. He only got involved when he went on ball a bit or even played as a spare behind the ball on occasions in the second half.
I've said it before, a left field plan for Treacy could be as a big bodied midfielder if he built a tank. His kicking is generally very good and he's a tough nut. He looks better around the ball but he's too short to ruck at AFL level

I think it’s the midfield coaching changes. But yeah, if one person has stood up to say he should have been made captain, it's Caleb

In
Brodie Johnson Fyfe Erasmus Freddy

Out
Henry tab NOD wilson banfield (unlucky)

If Fyfe doesn’t get up Corbett or treacy in for tab’s

I love NOD but he doesn’t look fit

He was free twice inside 50 & ignored by teammates who chose to snap & missed. Agree he isn’t going to be a ruckman at AFL level. I’d prefer to see him have a go down back before going in the midfield

Tabs --> Corbett. Tabs is useless once the ball hits the ground and half the time it seems he's the only one in the forward line when we do move fast. Also gave away about 4 free kicks long down the line. Time to give someone else a go. Treacy isn't up for it either. Did not impress me with the time he spent in the fwd line for peel.

Ryan --> Wagner/Worner. He's not a small defender. His kicks are absolutely useless. Blame his back and swap him for someone else. Almost 600m gained for zero score involvements.

Henry --> Johnson. Don't think anything needs to be said here.

JOM or Driz --> Brodie. Stats wise JOM game wasn't bad. 19 touches and 9 clearances. But he offers nothing the other way and why the **** is he only playing 61% game time? Balance was much better with Brodie in there. Driz could also come out just because of lack of match fitness. Bought in too early with limited pre season.

Banfield --> Freddy. Probably about the only player that actually tried but Freddy takes over his spot easily.

Would love to see Pearce dropped and Hamling given a go but that's obviously not going to happen.

JOM had 19 disposals in the end? Did **** all in the first half when the game was lost.

Last year we mostly used 1 ruck, a forward/ruck and 1 KF didn't we?

This year we've gone in with a ruck, a ruck/forward and 2 KFs (3 in Rd 1).

Yep that is why a Tabs for Sturt/Corbett type swap could work structurally

Fyfe and Jackson are unicorn types.
Would argue more only two KPFs with a midfielder and ruck. If that was the case, then can’t take just have one round to experiment. Really unfair on Treacy and Jackson. Fyfe was injured anyway

I agree , The players upfield have no faith in the big guy's to take a contested mark even when in front and it hits their hands .
Saw it several times yesterday 1st qtr Brayshaw to Jackson goal square dropped happened several times with Tabs as well kicks to advantage that were just fluffed.
It also applies up on the wings. Watching WC last week, we appeared to lose about 95% of the contests when the ball hit the ground. We are very slow to read the ball off the pack and rarely have the numbers there. Sometimes you simply have to kick up the line,so it is time for us to work on that area so we can at least win our share and hopefully attack from the fall of the ball. We waste too much time looking for a loose man.

That's the main issue, too tall and slow especially in the front half. Last year we looked electric especially against Melbourne with a mobile forward line pushing up to the wings then running forward and getting behind the defence. Why deviate away from that? Persevering with Tabs is unforgiveable IMO, swap him for Erasmus or anyone that can run and we look much better instantly IMO.

If Taberner was Tony Lockett and we kicked to him 1 on 1 constantly his selection would make sense. But I'd say we kicked to Walters and Banfield one on one as much as Tabs yesterday. So if we're not kicking to him and he offers nothing when the ball hits the deck and the opposition sweep the ball out why pick him?

Looks like being a damp miserable day in Adelaide Friday too. Go small and run run run.

Maybe we should free Clark up onto the wing. He certainly doesn't seem to have the willingness to run from defense as much as we probably hoped.. Wilson did it for one week and then stopped. The only one who seems to do it consistently is Walker.
He went to the wing a couple of times in the first 1/4. He was wing when he did that odd evasion on the flank and kicked long into Tabs who marked at the back of the pack and finished off with a goal.
I like him as a wing. Runs, decent kick going forward, good tackler and knows how to run back into defense to help out.

This is going to be the worst game of the season and possibly decade or history.
Thankfully with the timeslot noone will be watching.

May the worst team win

Your VFL side is going well. Do you have some players coming in? Sounded like from your coaches press conference that you had some managed minutes for todays game with perhaps an intention to keep a couple of fresh options for Friday.

In AFL comparisons the dimensions of Norwood Oval (165m x 110m) seems closest to Geelong's home ground (170m x 115m) where we won last season.
It limits wide switches of play and probably makes it easier to defend space with slow ball movement.

Gold Coast have got a strong set of mids. Anderson and Rowell being the top 2 picks from the draft we took Serong plus Miller and Swallow. Witts was a late withdrawal for them yesterday with soreness. From both coaches post match press conferences in the St Kilda vs Gold Coast game and on the statsheet, it sounds like their debut ruckman Moyle was one of Gold Coast's better players - even though Marshall was rested in the last quarter.

Apart from 2020 when all teams were hubbing, I don't think we've won a game when we've decided to stay the whole week, and can't remember it working for any other team.

We have a habit of turning Gold Coast players into valuable assets (ignore Harley Bennell)

Worked with Mzungu (technically Gold Coast) and Brodie, who's to say Corbett won't be similar?
