I would start Macrae next week and define a role for him.l hope he can still impact.
Daniel needs to regain confidence at Footscrays. Its shot atm.
Bramble stays ,either JJ or Duryea go out.
O'Donnell must come in.
Get Buku on the tackling machine.Employ a rugby coach. As missed tackles cost games. So do silly free kicks. Otherwise his intercept marking is Easton Wood like.
Sanders needs re setting or fine tuning in VFL and Garcia is ready to go.
Out Daniel Duryea Sanders
In O'Donnell , Garcia, Arty as sub

Absolutely incorrect. VDM is our best pressure fwd. Covers the ground best and internally the coaches value him a lot more than most supporters.
VDM has never been omitted.
I respect this opinion even though different to mine. I want to like VDM for his hard running, but… he makes so many costly mistakes. He runs so hard and contests so hard for a smaller player, but he has to tidy up his execution.

Macrae has to play and start on the ground. He is one of our best players if played in the right position. No one can tell me he hasn’t got a spot in our team considering the quality of our bottom few.

Stunned that Daniel is so out of form, he looks too heavy and slow. He should train to trim down and get back to that blowfly in a bottle sort of player that he used to be. This should be in the VFL. I know I backed him before the Geelong game but he continues to play without form.

Vandermeer must be on his last chance for now, he was OK against the Eagles but otherwise has looked like a suburban league player so far this season. He can start sub against the Bombres as a warning that you can't continue to run on to the ground and play as if you are wearing boxing gloves, a blindfold and ice skating boots.

Two Metre Dickhead is still out suspended for the Bombres, so JOD can tune up one more match in the VFL. No need to hit the Keath panic button.

Therefore,
Out: Daniel.
In: Harmes (we need another campaigner in the side since we are playing two striplings in Sanders and Gallagher).
Macrae promoted to interchange for midfield rotations.
Sub: Vandermeer.

In: Macrae.
Out: Daniel.
VDM (sub).
No need for another tall defender.
Jones to Draper/Goldstein
Khamis to Jones.
Williams to Stringer.

Based on last night Macrae deserves a starting spot next week. Last week was his first game back and was against a nothing opposition and last night he was pretty influential when he did come on. He had the equal most tackles and went at 100% disposal efficiency. He's one of the few who can kick to a target inside 50 and has elite hands in congestion.

Give him a run of 3-4 weeks and then re-assess. Daniel is probably the one who should be under the most pressure at the moment, with selection spots a premium he has had 2 below average to poor games in a row.

Here are our KPIs before and after the sub was made, obviously it wasn't just the swap of Daniel for Macrae as Geelong was tiring but we did turn it around significantly and Macrae's numbers were more than solid.

Looking at that Gallagher might be struggling run the game out. Could he be a sub candidate for a game or two.

Definitely in the Daniel out and Macrae starting camp.

The problem with English is and always has been his lack of muscle and power.

Rhys Stanley was the most influential player on the ground....

Come on... Stanley was good and absolutely had an impact, but that's a massive overreaction after how amazing Bont and Libba were. Miers was also the Cats most influential player yesterday IMO, him or Jezza.

I've been seeing around social media and a little bit here some people calling for JUH to be dropped.

Everyone is entitled to their views but it boggles my mind that he would be dropped? He's been playing well in a dysfunctional forward line set up imo.

He's still dropping 1 or 2 marks a game he should take but his biggest issue is accuracy, he's the lowest-ranked key forward over the past 2 seasons in terms of shot at goal accuracy and this year we've targeted him 34 times for just 6 goals.

Dropping him to the VFL won't help his accuracy, so that needs to be worked on at training or even after hours. Something needs to change though as Darcy, Lobb and even Naughton are significantly better shots at goal.

Well, everyone's mileage may vary.
Maybe it's a stretch to say he was the most influential player on the ground, but he was definitely making a big difference in the stoppages. This is also far from the first time English has struggled to deal with physicality (Darcy also struggled while he was playing in the ruck).

I think most key forwards have had periods where they've been lousy set shots. Most recently McKay from Carlton.

I hope he works through it.

He does need to work on composure when he has the ball in play. He is a great field kick which we are not seeing enough of.

VDM had 2 turnover!! Wow give me a spell. We lost because as a Team defence we allowed them to transition from their back half into their fwd50 to easily on occasions and they got easier goals than we did.
Plenty to be proud of and plenty we can improve on. No need to hate on any players. Cats will win most games and be a top 4 contender. We are not far off !!
I’m not sure turnovers tell the full story. Hand balling to your teammates ankles doesn’t count as a turnover even if it completely kills the play and causes a subsequent turnover or ball-up instead of streaming forward. Same with his many fumbles.

Have a look back at Geelong’s second goal in the 3rd quarter. There’s an underground handball to VDM and he’s got space by AFL standards: IMG_4665.jpeg

Then comes the classic VDM fumble. His intensity is great but he doesn’t have the ball handling skills to be trying to take this with one hand at full pace:
IMG_4666.jpeg

De Koning pounces on the fumble, takes it cleanly and 15 seconds later Close has put though a goal:

Doesn’t show as a turnover but it might as well have been.

The real problem is the continued selection of a player who needs to work on skills in the VFL.

Williams was one of our best last week and not too bad this week?
Harmes didn't do well last time he played so not sure about bringing him back.
JOD in

Don’t see us messing with our tall defenders this week, feel like we’ll continue to back in Buku as the second tall. Even though I believe we do need to work JOD in sooner rather than later, let him get another VFL run into his legs

Daniel out, Garcia in

Sub to come from one of Garcia, Williams, Dale, or Gallagher just for management more than demotion.

Late 2023 Bulldogs would struggle to win this game.

Let's hope, regardless of who is selected, 2024 coaches and players have the hunger to win this one convincingly.

Prime time, home game, Friday night.

Stage made for Bont, Liber, Treloar, West and Jones to continue their form, but need Naughton, JUH and others to step up as well.
I expect Darcy and Richards to fire this week as well.

Go selected team! 🙂

They're our bunnies... really should be winning this especially without Wright and others.

Opportunity to start winning a few in a row

Wouldn’t mind seeing:

Bont to CHF ala Cameron - him and Jamarra have always had good connection.

JUH and Darcy up there with him.

Naughton back, allowing buku 3rd tall.

Daniel next to Bont at half forward to improve entries.

This opens up a spot for Macrae in the middle too and potentially minutes for harmes or Garcia.

Won’t happen but I’d be interested to see how it plays out.

The conundrum is no changes will make the team stronger on paper.

It is more about how the selected team blends with our offensive and defensive strategies against a bog ordinary team, to develop synergy before playing the better teams

Out: Macrae, Daniel and Dale
In: Bendendo, Garcia and O'Donnell

Keep the transition going Bevo...
Freijah next in line too, going to be a ripper. Forget Harmes he is backup or if Bevo wants a tagger, that's it. We need to keep moving to the next crop of players.
