A player from Port saying they are/should be pumped up does not mean that they will be or that it will make them play better. It may do the opposite. It's hard to tell with these things.

If you're anticipating a ruckman going out after this weeks game then wouldn't it be more logical to retain the better performed one? Nominating Witts just a tad premature.

Yeah, probably, although I feel I've seen enough throughout the year to form the view that Grundy is a better option in the ruck (both in the hitout contests and around the ground) than Witts, so barring a very good or very bad game from one or the other, I'd expect Grundy to get the nod.

I tend to think that if fit and available, they'll play both.

Couldn't disagree more. Witts is so much better in the ruck contest it's not funny. He's also equal around the ground. Grundy is a better mark but has terrible mobility.

I think Witts has been far more accomplished with his hitouts than Grundy this season. Grundy is better in his second and third efforts. It's hard to tell who is ahead of who right now. I'm still not convinced we can afford to play both in the same side given it makes us more static on team balance. Its a fair selection dilemma.

Nothing at this stage, but Varcoe aside he's the only small defender we have with any semblance of form behind him so it would be a worry were he to miss in the short term...

Their hitout average is almost identical and Grundy averages 5 more possessions.

I thought it was interesting, weather we win or lose we'll brake a streak. I was actually worried about the Thursday night one but now hearing the Hawthorn one fills me with some more confidence.

Those sorts of stats mean absolutely nothing. It's not like the players somehow play worse on Thursday nights.

They are harmless, its not like an 'expert' used it in his reasoning why Collingwood or Port would win.

Fingers crossed Sinkers can get up to speed in the VFL quickly. Been out a while, but he was in great form before his hammy and hasn't missed a beat on return.

that certainly will give them soem powerful moivation then, and also perhaps would tend to put a dent in the resolve of our players. They should remember that life and footy goes on, Phil lived for footy and wouldn't want his death to give one team a psychological advantage. Actually some might suggest it's a pretty tricky ploy to get a psychological advantage.
