"Simpson said the match committee would put form ahead of reputation when they selected the team to play Port Adelaide on Sunday"

My predictions.
Out: Redden, Wellingham (inj), Butler (inj), Barrass, Petrie (unfortunate)
In: Priddis, Nelson, Hurn, JK, Lycett
Simpson said “We’re not going to bring in eight players. We need to find the balance between bringing back some good experienced A-grade type of players for us and rewarding good form on the weekend,”

Of the 8, how many do you really believe are A Grade? Note the definition being IS and not WERE.
Josh Kennedy, Shannon Hurn, Matt Priddis, Mark LeCras, Josh Hill, Will Schofield, Jackson Nelson and Scott Lycett

If I was the list manager, I would say that JK is the only A grader.
Lecras and Priddis were A grade but not in the last 2 seasons. Hurn is a really good B but not elite.
The rest are not close to A grade. Good players but not A grade.

By virtue of the salary cap and the pathway being usually by the draft, most clubs really only have 5 to max 10 A graders.

Do you think Simpson is looking at reputations or current season production?

Further in the article, Simpson talks about Lecras being out of form (supposedly because he was injured).

“He was playing under duress for a couple of weeks there. He’s the first to admit it wasn’t an excuse for some poor form,” Simpson said.
“He’s got himself right. He’s missed two or three weeks now, so we need to make sure, if he plays, he’s ready to go. I need to see him train well this week.”

I see that Lecras he has to do two things to get right:
(1) Recover from the injury - sounds like he is now injury free:heavycheck:

(2) Get in form - no goals in 4 games:crossmark:

Surely the only way for him to get in form is via the WAFL and that means he is likely to be out for another 2 weeks since EP have the bye.

Very shoddy journalism because that's not what Simpson said at all. His quote was "We need to find the balance between bringing back some good experienced A-grade type of players for us and rewarding good form on the weekend".

Match committee:

Out: wellingham (inj), butler (inj), karpany, cole, duggan

In: jk, priddis, lecras, lycett, hurn.

Cos the same old recycle from selectors.

What is needed but wont happen:

Out: wellingham, butler, cole, masten.

In: hurn, parto, lycett, jk.

If lycett is in, then jd plays more up the ground and petrie as two pronged forward with jk. Vardy and lycett to share ruck duties. Gov to backline.

You've got two talls (JK and Lycett) coming in as well as Hurn but no talls coming out

Means we would be playing three KPDs (+Hurn), three KPFs (if you class Darling as a tall) and three rucks/forwards

That's peak LOG

There is a long standing rumour that Lecras will refuse to play for east perth and would retire.
My own view is that this is something that's been made up on the internet

However, for the conspiracy theorists one line from Simpson caught my attention when talking about not being able fit everyone into the side - said that some players would have to play at EP or not at all. It was a curious line

It is an interesting line but you would think it has to be a made up internet conspiracy theory. No team could tolerate a player dictating where they will and won't play. It is possible that players indicate that if they will mostly be depth playing at East Perth for an extended period then they would retire but to refuse to play for a week or whatever to find form or to get fitness back from injury seems highly unlikely.

Edit:

In the context of this, the statement makes a bit more sense as he is talking about throughout the season and could be talking about resting players and byes etc: https://thewest.com.au/sport/recovered-west-coast-stars-may-have-to-miss-a-weekend-ng-b88528085z

has Priddis played at EP ? I think he may have been selected just from getting through training the times that he has missed a game ditto for Kennedy and Lecras ..

Interesting hypothesis.. take Partington. Tearing up the WAFL but is not getting an AFL debut (one can only hope it is this week). You'd have to think that might have an impact on the guy's confidence? When you look at Sydney blooding young players like Heeney, Nic Newman, Papley they grow in confidence and excel. It's almost like our MC expects the young guys to be elite from the word go and never give them a chance to build confidence in their game at AFL level.

Lecras should not come back in the side until he proves his form in the wafl. If he can't perform in the wafl then bye bye. So stupid to even consider him as a starter. Was poor for weeks before this so called injury. Lecras wants a spot then he is going to have to earn it. Partington comes into the side.

Priddis has only missed three games under Simpson total so has never had an extended break that would require a return through WAFL

Kennedy similarly hasn't had an extended break under Simpson

Lecras missed 4 weeks (rounds 4-7) in 2014, returned for round 8, missed again until round 11 which included a bye round so only missed one game. He kicked 4 goals from 22 possessions in the round 8 game (GWS admittedly) so was in reasonable touch and 2 goals from 20 posessions (North) in round 11 - also had 12 tackles:eek:
