All of them apart from 1 were guns, they were given time to develop and they did. They deserved a permanent spot in our 22, i feel a few of the players are just getting selected in the side with no upside

Bell
Roberts
Scott
Abraham
Blakey
Grant
Laidley
Clayton
Pike

Theres a list of players that played in flags for us in the 90's that were "stop gaps" from other clubs like Power, Brown, Robbins

To be fair, all but one of the players on that list was a gun before they got to North (OK Abraham mightn't have been a gun but he was very bloody talented). Roberts was the only one who improved massively once he arrived at Arden St.

Well done, now you understand why Power should get a game as he is playing well is not old and needs time to develop in our team.

Bell? Laidley? I would say comparable to Power before arriving at North.

Apart from Clayton those players where very good for us.. The players we have got since then have been very oridinary. Hopefully Thompson will come on and I think Power can be very usefully if some of our other mids stand up.

Agreed in recent years recycled player track record hasn't been near as good but I was simply proving the point that while our 90's flag teams were full of kids we developed a fair chunk were recycled players.

Should I go back further and talk about the 10 year rule?

Bell - apologies - I meant to write either a kid or guns already (got distracted by Magnum Force on Channel 9). Dean Laidley was a gun at the Eagles before he did his knee.

Every good teams got some recycled players. I remember a couple of weeks ago R. Walls "On the Couch" bagging a team (can't remember who it was) for recycling a couple of players and saying how stupid it was to take that road. The next team they looked at was the Dogs and he said how good Hudson and Welsh had been. Completely contradicted himself (nothing new for the dim wit) but just shows how it can be a bit hit and miss.

Just look at Travis Jonno for the Bears. The way he is playing he would have been very handy for us this year.

Again, hardly recycled. We need Robbie Tarrant developing for us more than we need a midfielder edging towards the end of his career who would have cost us a first round pick.

Why in the hell would we drop Corey Jones when we know what he is capable of? It isn't a lack of hunger thing, it isn't a question of effort, it isn't a lack of ability. Just down on confidence. You don't drop your best forward when you come up against Geelong.

WTF, With Lai Lai in the 5th set and the Cricket just starting how the F can you watch a rerun, even if it is Clint.

Honestly, on Power and Watt please name the players they were worse than tonight.

We currently sit 8th on the ladder, changing to a ridiculous youth policy at round 11 sitting 8th is not what we need now.

Agreed, we are not ready to tank this season by playing kids in all positions. And anyone who says they'd rather us lose with kids is a liar. That same person would be on here the following week calling for Dean's head.

hi guys

Ummm I watched the game till the first 5 mins of the last qtr then I bailed, so forgive me if I miss any glaring points in the later parts of the game.

I've bagged Watt a fair bit, but he wasn't too much tonight; back it up Shannon. I THINK he was on Brennan for sometime, dunno who else.

Urquhart looked good; there were times when he looked for a handpass when I was slowly rubbing my temples screaming run or kick it long but a solid damn debut.

CJ seemed a bit out of sorts; running into open goal that he WOULD have kicked last year but hesitated and got tackled... I'm not saying drop him; but Dean give him a ____ing spray mate. He's a match winner; remind him that.

Campbell did great considering the conditions and delivery, very happy how he's going.

I was very frustrated that Laid's didn't swing any changes in regards to manning up on Browny and Bradshaw but then again I'm not sure what he could have done. They were good.

We came within 30 points of a full flight Lions team without Obst, Smith, Wells and Edwards (maybe not the biggest omission, but plays a role). I'm shattered we played that shit, but it could have been so much worse.

Oh... Patfull is a good defender.

Sorry all, I know this was a changes vs. the catters and I just gave my 2cents but meh... been a long night :(

Also;

OUT: Thomas

IN: Davies / Ross

Quality post.

(although missing the level of hysteria associated with post-loss-middle-of-night-rantings!)

Bell was an outright failure. And Roberts and Clayton just honest toilers elsewhere. The rest were far from champs.

'Outright failure' after one season as an 18 year old? Harsh call.

Roberts was an out and out ******* before he came to North.

Outside of Clayton, the rest had shown they were capable of producing a very high standard of football but were involved in trades that saw the other team receive some quality in return (although Stuey Anderson never lived up to the form he showed in his first couple of years and Pike was overlooked by Brisbane for other reasons).

CJ has just been very disappointing. Harro did nothing until the last quarter, I think he must have had a rocket at 3/4 time. Shagga tried hard for little effect. Power was bad but not the worst. I wouldn't put any of the blame on the backmen, they did what they could with little support. McMahon, Riggs, Thommo, Gav and Ed did okay in patches. Simmo and Rawlings were not damaging enough.

Loved Petrie's angry game!

Changes: CJ for Josh Smith
Shagga for Davies
