Have people watched Hawks games? Sicily isn't some intercepting beast like peak Jake Lever or whatever. He's good but his main threat is like an orchestra conducter, calling for the ball and making good decisions without error.

I’d definitely like to see someone play a defensive role on Sicily but I don’t think Lobb’s the man for the job. Sicily would just run off him. I’d maybe try West if he has the discipline for it. Block Sicily from getting to the marking contest then go for the ball when it hits the ground.

Hannan would probably get the job if he was in the team.

The principle is sound West doesn't have the height to impact aerially Sicily would take him to the cleaners. Maybe Macrae could be asked to do a role on him. Unlikely Bevo would do it but still it's an idea

I am more concerned less confident playing Hawthorn than I was playing the Tiggers

Game is in Tassie, they really pushed us in Round 7 (no Liber) and even last year in a must win we struggled to shake them

Jones will have to be on Lewis, he's by far their biggest threat.

Thing is he is likely to play as a CHF which we think is his best position. We looked dangerous as a group of talls last week because Ryan is more than capable of playing out of the goal square as a mature age player he has footy nous and knows when to lead. Which leaves Kosi to play as a 3rd tall/ 2nd ruck which again suits him perfectly. Less pressure and he only needs to provide a physical presence and kick a goal a game. I rekon we will try and affect Liam Jones's ability to intercept by having more aerial presence around him and have Lewis roam up to the wings and push back. It worked a treat against Darcy Moore who was in no man's land all afternoon. Should be a good game if we bring the same intensity and not have a drop off which has been the constant theme this year as we're still building.

He absolutely is an intercepting beast, yeah he also gets a lot of easy ball and uses it well but that’s why he has those monster 30-40 touch games, as pointed out he’s still the #2 intercepter in the game. He’s not as strong contested as others but he reads the play so well and for whatever reason teams let him do what he wants.

If we don’t pay him any attention he’ll have 10 intercept marks, 40 kicks and we’ll probably lose.

He's actually taken the most marks on average this year based on games played. 10 a game. Sure alot are cheapies but the guy is phenomenal at reading the cues further up the ground which is why it looks like he gets easy intercept marks. I just wish he was slightly bigger and could play on the big forwards weekly and still do his thing.

Divide total possessions or other rebound/ball use stats by intercepts and you'll see what I mean.

Collingwood sustained a lot of injuries in that game, which helped Hawks.

It was a unique match-up looking back on it, Collingwood 2 games clear on top so in cruise mode but Hawthorn can't really move from 3rd last year no matter how many games they win either. You would hope we go into the game in finals mode considering a loss can really screw us.

All I can say is that I can't see us losing the centre clearances 18-3. That is insane and really shows that Collingwood were miles off their game.

Day, Newcomb, Worpel and Nash all have some good attributes but you'd like to think we break even or win. Reeves is a big unit but he's also the type of immobile ruck that English excels against.

If we get enough midfield ball you'd think that one of Marra, Naughton or Lobb will get off the chain.

At the other end I would feel much better if Keath played. We don't want to be in the same position as the GWS game if one of our two defenders went down.

You would think we would recognise this is happening and give Lobb more centre bounces. Start English on a wing and he can take over after the bounce.

How frustrating is it that all our injuries this year are localised to the backline?

It's been a combination of key defensive pieces (Jones, Gardner, Keath, Bruce, Darcy in a pinch), which is our most vulnerable part of the ground, and also our high defenders (JJ, Richards), who are the most critical components of our offensive system.

The worst part of the ground for us to get injuries for multiple reasons, and it's happening constantly.
