Sweets recent poor form in the VFL made me look closer at Young’s ruck work. I think he is the equal of English. Yes that’s not great but he may be competent enough to halve most contests. He seem competent at the boundary throws ins. Would really love to see Tim play 60% forward and part time ruck.

I would persevere with Young as the primary Ruck until Martin comes back and play Tim Forward. If he could fill out a bit and put on about 3kgs and keep his leap he could be useful in the future. I wonder if the club has thought of transforming him into a ruck.Play on resting ruckman if necessary and is around the same height as Marshall and Jackson. His marking ability and his ability to read the ball Holds him in good stead
There are far worse options. - seems to have a really good reach and his boundary work is a natural.
Even on Sunday, English was the only real consistent threat up forward had we left Young in the Ruck longer I am sure we would have kicked at least a goal or two more.

I thought Horse totally out coached Bevo on Sunday.
Jamarrah and Weightman would have been far more effective being allowed to run up to the wings and back
Asking a debutant to work in the thick traffic we had in our forward line was ridiculous.

It would have been far more threatening if we had kept English deep with Wallis and Hannan - Bruce at CHF with Weightman and Jamarrah roaming far and wide.

Hannan is fairly useless unless he feels he is quicker than his direct opponent. Once he realised he wasn't on Sunday he became useless and defeated himself. The only option available was to play him as deep as possible and mover Weightman or Jamarrah up to the flank.

Another one that has escaped scrutiny this week is Hunter. In my opinion that was his worst game for the club. Got a bit of the ball in the 1st quarter and carelessly butchered it - than faded right out of the game. Another JJ - he had to be moved onto the half back line in the second half to see if he could break a few lines on the fat side.

What was really annoying is how little Bev tried to fix any of this. He just had to move the magnets around and there were numerous options.

Young is one of the most unusual players I have ever witnessed. For his size he has a number of elite athletic traits. I watched him very closely on Sunday, he had 2-3 brain fades that are inexplicable at either end of the ground. It might be that he is getting confused being moved from position to position. But honestly, some of this was just laughable.

The worst example: A ball was kicked deep forward to Bruce in a one on one. Young had left his man, he was every bit in the marking contest coming from behind. There were 2 reasonable options: fly for the mark removing the defender in flight or go forward of the contest to anticipate a crumb. Young found a third option - Remember, Bruce was all of 2-3 meters in front of the point post and Young decided to position himself between Bruce and the Point Post. What use he thought that position might be is just inexplicable. Essentially, the least useful position you could imagine. Bruce had that space covered. As it is the ball spilled forward - Bruce's opponent got a handball away to Young's distant opponent and the Swans were into counter-attack.

However, I was impressed by Young's ruck work - he is really quite good at it. He jumps high in the centre and was winning taps. What most impressed me was his body work from boundary throw-ins. The strange case of Lewis Young. We should settle the kid down into a role - I think he makes it.
Defence or nowhere. Chopping out in the ruck is a bonus but he’s not a number 1 ruck.

Anyone listening to the Danny Boyd podcast this week will have heard Tom discuss the multitude of directions players now get from coaches and how difficult and confusing it makes the game. Can’t help but think of how many positions we’ve had young play over the last four years. Maybe he’s not a natural footballer or maybe he’s literally confused. I think the kid just needs a single position and a couple clear focus points. Would make all the difference.

Looks like Crozier is back in too going by his interview on the website.

I was just thinking about Crozier, remember he had 7 weeks off after last year due to toe? surgery, and I guess that limited preseasons can start to bite at this time of year. He's been a wonderful pickup for our club and has some runs on the board, go easy on him.

Good to see Hannan and Scott were also omitted with Wally and glad JUH got another game. Lipinski should be in instead of Roarke but pretty happy with changes
I've been critical of Roarke over the years, but he was great for us earlier in the year.
He was BOG in the VFL last week.

Looks like Beveridge is still aiming for a home final, 5th place will get us there. Naughton, Bruce, Hunter and Weighman are going to have to work their ar*es off in the forward line to cover JJ and UH running around in circles having no idea what they are doing out on the ground.
