Chris Dawes must play against Hawthorn.

I would certainly not go experimenting with any untried players until after the Hawks game and even then only if we lose. Then it is a free for all...give the whole VFL side a run. It might send a message to the senior group to start playing consistently like the senior group.
If we win then we should kill ourselves trying to win every game until November.
Nothing to lose everything to gain.
Players HAVE to go after the last two weeks. Talent will beat the Hawks, not grizzly old veterans with little pace or imagination. The more youth we can manage to bring in the better. Our midfield is shot, slow methodical and lacking in ideas and skill. I'm no Stanley fan, but horses for courses warrants his inclusion when he is dominating at VFL level and the first are playing like they are. McCarthy should also be looked at for the simple fact that we need to do something to our midfield, given it's current state.

Yep Bring in Dawes. Move Anthony back if need be and drop Maxwell.

Can't drop Brown. Play him on Roughead. Give Wakelin the job of clogging up space and being a nuisance.

Harry has been the only backman who is having a crack recently - give him Buddy.

On the training track I would expect us to practice handballing overlap drills all week in anticipation of the Hawks shocking flood - chip kick football wont get the job done.

Collingwood has a history of debuting players in big games.
I remember in the 80's  Collingwood named a guy called Ian McMullin for his debut match in a finals game. Guess what, he kicked 5 goals. :thumbsu:
I think the same guy is currently on the Collingwood board.
Hawthorn named Dermott Brereton in a final and he also kicked 5 goals.
Now, i am not saying Dawes will do the same, but if he has the talent that everyone is touting - give him a crack. He might surprise everyone - including himself. He is a very confident young man. He has that arrogance around him that I like. If you know you are good and have confidence, you will succeed. Better to feel confident than have doubt.
I watched Cousins on Footy show few weeks ago. He was asked why a club should pick him up. He just smiled and said, " I think I have played some decent footy in the past".
He knows he was good and is confident. Why shouldn't he be. I am talking about his football ability - not him being a knob.
Dawes seems to me to have that similar confidence.
I hope they give him a crack and that he shows something and that he gives us supporters something to look forward to in the next decade.
I have been told that he was close to selection few weeks ago, but John Anthony got the nod ahead of him.

For the love of Pete let Dawes and Stanley come in this week. My 2 Favourite newbs on the list, coming in for the one game ill get to goto for the year!

The way we have played the last two weeks it cant hurt to try something new with Dawes. Get some new blood in the middle too. We have to ask ourself are the guys who played on the weekend going to win us the flag this year or in the future and if its no try something new.

EXACTLY!!

Everyone can see this except the powers to be..... i.e Malthouse and Co.

Out: R Shaw, Johnson, Didak (suspended), Lockyer, Davis

In: Stanley, Fraser, Dawes, Goldsack, Lonie

Reasons:

Johnson: Not up to it, needs to be dropped. Goldsack to fill his role.

R Shaw: The sooner he goes, the better we become! Stanley to be given a go and play his role in the midfield. Has been on the list for 3 years and we need to try him out.

Didak: Star, but will get a week! Fraser to come in and play full time as a forward and hopefully show us why we should keep him for 2009.

Lockyer: Needs to make a statement, he has done nothing this year. Nowhere near the form of 2006-07. Need to give Lonie a game as players that can kick the ball like he can, need to be given another shot.

Davis: Been Terrible the last couple of weeks.... star goal sneak but needs to find form back in the twos.

Forward Line to look like this:

Thomas Cloke Medhurst
Dawes Fraser Wellingham

I think the Pies will lift for this game. :thumbsu: All the players that have been down the last fortnight to put in bigtime. I'd also like to see Heath Shaw in the midfield and for Stanley, Dawes and Goldsack to play as well. Dawes is a big unit.
Agree, Hawks will be weary after busting a gut against Geelong, reckon we are in with a chance. If not, well at least we will see how far behind we are.

very amusing.

you want to try something 'new' and then proceed to name Lonie as an in, and the horribly out of form Goldsack who has had plenty of chances this year!

No need for Dawes to come in after kicking 3 in a 90 point win. If he stood up and did something in a close one, or kicked a big bag in a win, then maybe - otherwise he aint ready.

Happy for Stanners to get a game, but conditional upon him being used in the midfield and not hung out to dry as a medium defender!

Well........ has Lonie played any games this year? Gotta give him a shot, if he performs we keep him, if not, he is gone at the end of the year..... we cant do much worse can we?

You say there is no need to give Dawes a game? Everyone is screaming out for this bloke to play. It's time for something different. Have you seen our forward line the past few games?

I don't know why Goldsack is copping so much flak, far from our worst! People forget how good he was last year.... he has terrific closing speed, and is an excellent tackler.

would be nice to have a big target to kick to in our forward line! Dawes would suit this role perfectly. We cant expect Medders to do it all. I would bring in Dawes to be the big target and either a Danny Stanley or McCarthey or even risk playing Holland for a bit of guts in the middle cuz we will need it against the likes of Mitchell, Hodge, Sewell etc. But who knows the side will probably remain the same!

I have seen hi m many times this year and this is the first time that I think he has put himself in the position to warrant a game. He looked good although the stats above are HUGELY exaggerated. I'd be happy for him to play.

Danny Stanley must get a game though. Seriously, how can they keep him out? He win his own ball and is tough as nails. He is a 1000 times better kick than O'Bree.

Yes I agree Dawes has played extremely well. He has finally learnt to back himself and jump for the marks... He did have great delivery yesterday and it just all clicked for him.
Stanners will play and those two inclusions should help our chances. Stanners places the ball exactly where Dawes can get it they work well together....

Johnson I agree with, Didak... well he looks a little flat anyway.

Davis is just starting to find his feet again and I reckon he'll lift against the Hawks. Rhyce is breaking the lines from half back and providing a lot of run - I know he's kicking waywardly but he's one of the few explosive runners that we need to ping over the 'zone'.

Can't agree with your comments on Tarkinator - he's been solid this season and provided some hard-bodied tackling, pressure and solid kicking. Not 'starring' but providing a lot of heart and soul. Unfortunately we need at least 3-4 of his kind in the middle - he's got a great kick and can run all night.

Maxwell... well there's no point in flogging a dead horse :)

Wood - only because Bryan's brute strength will be needed against Campbell and Taylor.

Out: Didak, Johnson, Maxwell, Wood
In: Fraser, Dawes, Stanley, McCarthy

Fraser is already earmarked to return, so there's no point in disputing this. Stanley to throw himself into the mix and soften up the Hawks guns. Dawes to impose himself.

Dawes to FF, JA to CHB
Stanley/McCarthy on the bench to interchange through the middle.

IF we're switched on it could be a very interesting match! Allow for the fact that Buddy will kick 5.10 and Roughhead 3.3 - we need to ensure that Cloke/Dawes/Medhurst kick at least 12 between them.

GAME ON.

time to introduce some new blood, give dawes a game along with stanley and macarthy.they look stale at the moment and an injection of young talent may enthuse them enough to pull there finger out.didak as much as i like you u hav to pull your head in , stupid free kicks and reports are not the way to lead by example.

exactly - it will probably stay the same. but can we take mick seriously if he says "we havent got the cattle" then makes 0 changes??
how does that make the young players in the two's feel??
if the cattle arent working in the seniors it's time to make a change!

now mick, f***ing make some changes!

Ha Ha HA !!!!
For how long have i been screaming to bring in chris Dawes ????
How many posts have started on Chris DAWES ?
Now here is a slight remedy although makeshift but should work .
We have Rocca,Rusling injured. No way either of these two will come good even for finals.
Fraser and Reid are maybe's.
If Fraser is injured why play him in the reserves?Either play him in the seniors or rest him completely so he can get over his injury.
So we have a forward line of short people with one leading forward Travis Cloke and a little help from Anthony.
So here's what we do between now and end of season.
BRING in Chris DAWES ,firstly because we have no choice and secondly he is the closest player we have to Rocca. His job is to bring the ball to ground and smash packs which is what he does.
Put cloke at CHF which is where he belongs.
Let Anthony play as our leading full forward and do the Rusling role.
Bring in Josh to help in the forward line ,let josh run around outside fifty and watch what happens with cloke and josh playing the outside fifty role.Have Didak and Medhurst rotate the midfield with davis and thomas, but make sure they all push foward.
Swan burns cheesy and heath shaw and wellingham in the midfield and i reckon introduce macCarthy and or Barham (this kid has got some chris juddness about his run )The backline must stand tall ,i reckon give brown a week or two off and bring in Presti,Goldsac, and or Cox in
Then watch and see if we don't win games.

Sorry i also forgot make sure Pendles is the midfield also.

i think people look at the build on nathan brown and assume he is in his mid 20's, he is jsut a kid and like daisy and pendles in there first few years needs a bit of a rest to re-charge, even if that means not playing in the 2's. from all reports in the 2's dawes was awesome and his form seems to have been building over the last month, i think it is now an opportune time to bring him in. what are we waiting for?
