He missed three very gettable shots in the last quarter. All should of been kicked for a bloke with his quality by foot.

Agreed. He should have kicked at least two of them. Not sure how that makes him selfish though o_O

I'm a fan of his but to say that he contributed more to Carlton having a chance of winning rather than them losing the game is laughable and you should be embarassed

He was a significant contributor to Carlton being in the position to win. A proper assessment of the player, avoiding the emotional and reactive sentiment favoured by many on these boards, would take the gamut of his contributions into consideration. I'd rather suggest it's the other side of this coin that should be embarrassed here.

felt a bit sorry for yarran, he is such a smooth mover that when he dosent convert it looks selfish or lazy
the last shot you could tell yarran was weighing up his options and im pretty sure it was hampson who was screaming at him and pointing at the goals that made him ignore mclean and go for goal... anyway if mcguane hadve kicked that goal from 15m out in the dying seconds this thread would probably not exsist.

Actually there is a context to that post - i was asking an aggrieved poster whether he would prefer Yarran be labelled a choker or selfish - my answer was that I'd prefer selfish.

He had every right to go for the last shot but should of kicked it. The dribble kick along the ground was ridiculous and was either showing off or horrible judgment imo. The snap was difficult but I'd still expect an elite kick (which he is) to kick it at least 50% of the time.

At the end of the day labels such as selfish or choker don't really matter, what matter is the contribution to the side winning. My opinion is that he was very very poor all night.

Glad to see someone else raise this point. All the numpties calling Yarran selfish seem to overlook this fact. To them, it's as though his teammates were pointing at McLean and yelling that he should kick to him and he ignored them for a ridiculous shot on goal. No. Yarran did the right thing to take that shot. His error was in the execution. Nothing more.

No, it's always been the case. Cyril has been labeled that in the past, as has Leon Davis and I'm sure others have.

It also happens a lot more in real life.

So you just pluck something from mid air to bitch about when virtually no one has done it in this thread. Keep up the good work.

It seems that every indigenous player cops the "lazy" tag on BF.

I've never seen anyone refer to Adam Goodes as 'lazy'

The thread title is 'Chris Yarran'.

Not 'The Essendon/Carlton/Dimboolah 3rds board has lousy mods'
Oh to see deleted posts on the main board again. Used to that. People don't appreciate the fact that team boards are not in the mood for their 'sucked in' type posts, especially after a loss.

The selfish call has been a common thread in this diatribe.

You are correct in saying that he had every right to take the shot. It was very gettable and he was under no pressure. Indeed he had a teammate pointing and encouraging him steady and take the shot. He just fluffed the execution; not the first or last to have done this.

My opinion is that he was very very poor all night.

My opinion is your assessment is a fair way off; probably clouded by these noticeable errors at crucial moments. Wasn't a great game for Yaz, but he was far from poor, let alone very very ...

Yep, probably a good reminder to all that if you want to gloat on a team board after a loss (especially when you support another team), do not expect any sympathy or leniency from the mods.

And if you do get infracted, don't come on here to bitch about it or further penalties will be applied.

Any problems with team board bans can be resolved via PM to the moderation staff concerned.

Just like you accused Carlton fans of stating that he'll be the best player in his draft despite no-one actually saying so in this thread.....except someone actually referred to Yarran as lazy.

Yarran's also a bit of a victim of the quality of his draft. If there weren't so many guns from the top 10-12 of that year then he would be afforded a lot more time and perhaps less criticism itt

Well, he was never that terrible in the first place. His 2012 season was a down year as it was for many Carlton players.

If he can play like he did last night each week, then he's no failure.

I never said he was terrible and never said he was a failure. However, if Gibbs doesn't start delivering as an "elite" player this year or next, then he may never do so.

I agree. He's just turned 24 as well by the way. He's still young though, even if he only has another season or so to prove himself.

Now learning under a coach who has always developed players well and taught others who've underwhelmed how to become elite. He turned Thomas into a very tough and elite midfielder in 2010.

If Yarran has a poor year he will look west IMO. He simply looks uninterested at times and it may need a move back home playing in front of a home crowd playing for a Perth club to get the best out of him.

You can tell he has ooodles of talent but just doesn't fire up enough.

That's always been Yarran's go ever since he started playing.

He looked lazy playing in a Grand Final for Swan Districts.

Leopards don't change their spots.

Having said that he'll probably kick 4 next week and he'll be the next wunderkind of Big Footy.
