Gibbs was bog in the last quarter - thought he was just ok in the other 3 quarters. People always remember the last quarter but I thought that Delidio and Cotchin int he first three were the two outstanding players on the ground and put the tiges in the winning position.

He was pretty good throughout the whole game and immense in the last, where he played a major role in putting the Blues in a winning position. Not sure why someone would say it was a disappointing game from him. Of course it wasn't perfect, I just don't get the jibe.

Think the criticisms at Yarran are fair - he got reported, gave away stupid free kicks and missed three very gettable shots in the last. They're pretty fair reasons for having a dig imo.

I don't mind him receiving criticism, but a lot of the posts in this thread have gone beyond that.

And Carlton were only outplayed for a quarter and a half; two quarters at most. The first half of the first quarter Carlton had the rub and the third quarter I thought the teams were pretty even.

Pretty fair post I reckon - Yarran probably should be dropped for his selfish play, if you're gonna ignore a team mate who is wide open and in a better position that you for a shot at goal to win the game, you'd better kick the bloody goal !
But I still think Yarran is immensely talented and has plenty of scope to improve on his weaknesses.

It can rub either way. He could had passed it off and fluffed that up too, then everyone would be saying he should have taken the shot on goal and not fiddled around with it. The good players take that responsibility. The problem for Yarran is that, as you said, "you'd better kick the bloody goal" and he didn't. That's why this thread exists.

I don't mind him coping criticism for the things he did tonight, I just think BF goes a bit overboard sometimes.

Just ill-disciplined. And makes poor decisions.
When it's time to use his speed to take on a defender, he relies on his kicking.
When it's time to dispose of the ball quickly, he tries to use his speed.
He'll learn.

Failed at HBF and needed Walker to take over. Went forward and proceeded to get reported and be a completely selfish prick. Certainly not the type of character I would want at my club.
I don't think he ever played HBF tonight, so you're wrong right off the bat.

Was played as a HFF for the first time tonight, couldnt get the run going the right way
Struggles as a HBF when he has to defend one on one

So compromis, chuck him on a wing.

he missed... deserves to cop his dues cos thats the nature of elite sport. However people who make blanket statements off the back of one kick/one game clearly think with their heart and not their head.

Here we go again, the boots laid in after round one.

Leave the bloke alone, he's been tried in numerous positions and is trying to find his feet.

He may be inconsistent, but guess what, so were Brett Deledio and many other players as well!!!

New coach, new instructions, give him time.

I'd be more worried about Jeff Garlett's output, if I was a Carlton supporter.

Congratulations. Short, concise and completely misinformed. 3 sentences and not one was correct.

first was incorrect, second was half right (reported and selfish prick) and third was his opinion. I don't want Yarran at my club, is that wrong as well? We just got rid of Reimers, Yarran is a pretty similar player, although better

At least Yarran put him self in the position to win the game. More disappointing was the lack of discipline from Jamison. How many fiftys and silly free kicks?

There are plenty of guys like Yarran going around, so much ability but still not playing at the level everybody thinks they should. Deledio being one of the most notable, along with Gibbs.

Yarran and Reimers are nothing alike.

Why is Yarran selfish - because he went for that goal in the final few minutes? Had every right to go for it and such is his talent that more often than not he most likely would have kicked it. Wasn't a terribly difficult finish but it wasn't to be last night.

What are the chances you'd be discussing this had he kicked the goal?

Essendon would kill for someone like Yarran. Don't kid yourself.

We talk about talent as unrealized potential - but if the guy has match winning potential it would be good to see him fulfil it in games like last night. That's what he was recruited for.

Deledio was a gun and had won a B&F by the age of 21. They aren't in the same postcode.

It would be great wouldnt it. 3 behinds in the last quarter, just one of them being a goal wins the game. Kick all 3 of them and its a very different story. For one of the better kicks/finishers in the league, i daresay that wont be his last chance. Surely not the first player to miss game winners.

Bullshit. Yarran is a selfish, soft flanker who doesn't work hard enough. As was Reimers

He should have given it to McLean, who would have strolled in and kicked an easy goal to win Carlton the game. There was also the time where he tried to dribble it on his left foot for goal when there was a player at the top of the goalsquare (can't remember who exactly) and instead chose to be a selfish prick and go for goal himself. low percentage play

Does it matter? He didn't, and we are discussing it.

I'd prefer Dempsey off half-back as he can, you know, defend. I'd also prefer Kommer at half-forward because he can get a hard ball. So no, we wouldn't.
