I can see it being very difficult for a midfielder in a top-flight team being the Rising Star anytime soon, simply because they are bound to be the sub on multiple occasions.

Missed games are a killer in our b&f and Bundy has already missed six games and been the sub on (from memory) at least three occasions. If he finishes in the top 12 of the b&f, I'd be very surprised. The voting system is five members of the match committee select up to ten players and give them up to ten votes (so a maximum of fifty) each game. Rewards the players who consistently play and do their job, rather than the players who are up and down, or miss extended periods with injury.

Corey, Kelly, Enright and Bartel have all missed just one game and would be all be in our top six. Stevie J and Scarlett will be up there. Lonergan will be top 10. Selwood has played more games than Bundy and will also be in the top 10. Stokes, Ling Chapman and Ottens would be ahead of him. Then there's a further eleven players who have played as many games as him or more (Taylor, Varcoe, Pods, Mackie, both Hunts, Duncan, Wojcinski, Menzel, Ling and Milburn) and I would imagine at least a handful of them would be ahead of him too.

Yes yes yes - he has missed 6 games and played 3 as sub, and yes your logic is very apt, however let us get excited for 1 second! Every game i have seen him play he has made some very signifcant contributions. I'm not so sure that Chapman or Ling would be ahead of him in performance this year - albeit they would have scored more votes through weight of games. My feeling so far this year is that he has outperformed both Menzel and Duncan (whom themselves have played great footy).

Interesting rating him against Heppel....watched the bombers today and Heppel looks pretty solid. However i still feel that Bundy is doing things which are just so noteworthy for a second year player. His attack on the ball is simply amazing and he has the clean skills and decision making to boot - a rare package.

He mentioned on a clip on before the game he had a life size cut out of Wanganeen and that he lobbed the head off it when he left. Must have been a bombers supporter!

Love the passion!!! :D

Why is his nickname Bundy? Is he an animal on the Rum?

Pretty sure I read during the week its from Al Bundy... Assuming from being named Allen... Someone no doubt will know more than me.

Any chance of the brother/brother rule. Guy I sit next to at the footy was fullsome in his praise of Aaron ( I think) Christensen. Reckons he has more ability. He have to be one hell of a junior Id say. To be fair I heard that said of Nathan and Gary too , so I save coming to it till I see him.

Back to Bundy. The more I watch him the more I see upside. The way he can add to score like as an onballer makes him a goal kicking mid. Seem to remember Cousins doing that very early on.
The way he has the ability to draw players and make quick accurate decisions makes him an inside mid. Yes Diesel like.
The way he can run with the ball and hit targets makes him an outside mid. This kid really may be GA's replacement.

I still remember Diesel's first game. :)

Good decision maker (Allen). I'd rather wait a while to make comparison's but he does look the good's.

Any chance anyone in the media might recognise that the kid is a midfielder?

Time and time again he's spoken of as a small forward, yet one only needs to actually watch him play (or even just look at the stats) to realise he's a midfielder.

I guess it's easier for the lazy football media to throw him in with Stokes and Varcoe simply because he's small, indigenous and has some goal sense.

Good point , they did mention that the Cats have add another mid with him and Duncan so its there if someone looks.

Good point too on the indigenous comment. Totally different than Varcoe and will be a much better player than Stokes.

Incredible speed off the mark to go with his toughness over the ball. Wins a lot of hard ball and is always forward of his opponent when we get the ball out.

Certainly adds another aspect to our midfield and surely in our best 22.

Interesting that his idol was Wanganeen. Wonder if he supported Bombers as a kid. I realise his uncles played for Geelong. But I've been told even Matty Scarlett did NOT follow Geelong?

Yes he was a Essendon Supporter, and one of his mates is Anthony Long who is on Essendon's list, whose uncle being Michael Long, makes sense he was a Bomber fan.

We are the lucky ones to have got him,,,, thanks to Mr Wells again !!!!!!

are we overacting or are we excused as he's standing up in big games and emerging as one of the games newest midfield guns:D I think we all seeing a very special player, he just missed that set shot from 45 meters in the 3rd but he's quite a beautiful shot for goal and from what I've seen, a very long natural kick of the footy. No doubt they targeted him tonight as a player to contain and he answered when it was fierce and competitive

He's only going to get better and much stronger next year, the kids a great natural talent, just hope that will also apply to Guthrie, Smedts, GHS, and some of the others.

In one year of football i have gone from no expectations to suddenly viewing Bundy as a 10 year player. His presence in last nights final was nothing short of exceptional. Certainly capable of having a full time role in the midfield....is just so hard at!
