I'm not sure if its delay as a coach is involved or we are just taking our time but the more it goes on it makes me think its probably King. You'd think if they were leaning towards someone like Schofield or McQualter it would be done by now.

High performing organisations go through the full process.

Probably too young if anything. Could still be playing if not for injury.
John Worsfold wasn't much older and only had 1 yr in the media and 1 yr as an assistant coach at Carlton.

If Scott could bring the Geelong way of doing things with him it would be a huge bonus.
With his apprenticeship as an assistant at Geelong and Collingwood he has a lot more to offer us than the
4 most mentioned candidates in McQualter, Montgomery, Schofield and King.

He's far and away the least experienced. Not sure how he offers us 'more'.

Simple he's been involved with 3 really successful AFL teams both as a player and or as an assistant coach.
Been coached as a player by Brad Scott and John Worsfold and is working as an assistant with Craig McCrae.
Beat that !!!!

King’s been coached by Bomber Thompson and Ross Lyon and is working as an assistant with Chris Scott, having also worked with Bevo.

Kings been in the system for 14yrs why hasn't he got a gig before now ? Surely this isn't the first job he has applied for.

McRae spent 14 years in the system before getting the Collingwood job, surely that wasn’t the first job he applied for?

McCrae had a far better history than King imo. Worked under Hardwick for 3 premierships, and worked under Clarkson. Coached a VFL premiership. Ran an AFL academy. See below:

"A triple premiership player with Brisbane who has shared in success as an assistant coach, VFL coach and development coach over the last 15 years, McRae has been appointed for the next three seasons.

McRae was an assistant to Damien Hardwick in Richmond’s premiership years of 2017, 2019 and 2020 and coached the Tigers to the VFL premiership in 2019. He worked by Alastair Clarkson’s side at Hawthorn as an assistant this year. Six years with the incredibly successful Melbourne Storm as a specialist coach are also on his list of achievements.

McRae is no stranger to Collingwood. He was head of the club’s highly productive AFL Academy between 2011-2015, during which time he worked with the likes of Jamie Elliott, Brodie Grundy and Darcy Moore
."

I do worry that King is more of a journeyman assistant. I'll trust the club though.

I am starting to think they are gunning for either Longmire or Scott and one of them has indicated they are willing to have a chat after finals.
Of course that’s just my guess but I just don’t think an assistant coach like King would be delaying the process. He should be wanting to get on with his new role as senior coach of the Eagles.

Exactly.

King’s been coached by Bomber Thompson and Ross Lyon and is working as an assistant with Chris Scott, having also worked with Bevo.

Miguel raises a very good point here, in that King has been exposed to and worked with several coaching styles which is a variable that I rate highly when assessing potential coaches.

Love him or hate him Lyon is one of the most astute defensive minded coaches in the business and he has been for many years now. He is a master of defensive analysis of oppositions and has an uncanny knack of taking away from an opposition what it does best.
His downfall is that his offensive strategies are nowhere near as effective.

Scott and Geelong do football in all it’s facets better than most, they and Sydney are IMO the benchmark for efficiency and effectiveness in all things football management.

So exposure to some of the “ bests “ in the Industry be that individuals or organisations, get my attention.

Certainly not the B all and end all but definitely watch points for me.

They can’t decide who the best candidate is if they don’t interview all the candidates

Been thinking something similar for a few weeks.
Was a lot of chatter early in the process and it just seemed to die off after a few high prospects adamantly said not gonna be me.
Makes me think we are going a big fish who hasn't said no and those in the know know and guys like Ralphy aint in the know.

Or maybe we're just following our process which is hindered by the fact that some of our potential options have teams who've been in finals....
