Maccas . . .
29: West Coast - Clayton Collard
Already mentioned by name (along with Jetta and Krakouer) by our recruiting manager as players were interested in, potential homesickness could see clubs overlook this talented kid, who West Coast would be ecstatic to pickup. Is a quick, skillful, goal-kicking midfielder, who as West Coast have shown are a very valuable commodity. Houli and N. Brown have been linked to the Eagles as well.

SNoop . . .
16 West Coast Eagles – Clayton COLLARD ( WA / 177/ 80)

Now that they have found Lynch – what do they need? Mids to burn and increasingly good talls. They will go for the best talent and Collard is it. He also fits an area I think they will be looking to – crumbing fwds. Yes they have Le Cras, Sampi etc but goal kicking options would be on their list.

Little on the smaller side but quick with a good football brain and exceptional by the feet. Hard to know where he will settle but suspect he may go forward and settle into what was once Sampi’s position.

O’Brien, Connors and possibly Tippett are the other options.

Weaver . . .

17. Clayton Collard (Carlton). Collard is better but less credentialed than the higher-profile Jetta. Has a hint of Gary Ablett jnr about him. Collard might develop into a midfielder in time and alongside Betts gives the Blues some flair and genuine game-breaking pace and talent across half-forward.

Not a bad move. Cartledge is someone who is more ready play than Putt or Gus and we haven't had to use anything of value. We now have that extra bit of ruck insurance to get us through the season. If he fails, no big loss.

we were doing so well, was looking forward to MT's reaction if he got overlooked
Now we're going to hear how he should be on the list ahead of several others for the next 12 months.

Just insurance.

Good pick up at such a low cost, we can't have just Gus and Putt backing up our starters - Simmo is too injury prone to run that risk, IMO anyway.

I suppose anyone is better than guy richards.

This bloke can't be much if essendon dumped him.

He's a (relatively) mature bodied ruckman brought in as insurance if Simmo goes down again. Getting someone like that as a rookie ( ie cheap and not taking a main list slot ) is a bonus. No, he's unlikely to set the world on fire, but for a 3rd round rookie pick, the peace of mind that insurance provides makes him good value.

As for Essendon dumping him. I sit next to a mad dons fan and mentioned that we picked him up. he actually thinks he wasn't bad and got delisted because they had good ruck stocks at the time and he wasn't getting a game, so it was better to have him make way for another kid.

That's a fallacy- have you seen him play? In any case being soft wasn't a concern when it came to selecting 'He-Man' Howat. Kangars I would have also been happy with.

Ok I was using an analogy that doesnt suit him completely but what I was trying to say is that he's an outside player, just another Howat that IMO wont make it. Just a receiver. We shouldnt have got either of them.

happy to claim gourdis and collard - but the rest is a bit disappointing IMO.

in reality we could have claimed Gourdis, Collard, Arrowsmith, Kangra's, Dunn

that would have been brilliant - Cartledge reeks of the "genuis" of terry and miller -that same genuis that claimed "Humm" as a intelligent pick up:rolleyes:

Silvester is back up i guess, and continues the loyalty to coburg thing - which i think is important.

Howat - well, he has another chance - by no means our worst fella this season - but i would have preffered a "new face" in Dunn.

7/10 for me lose a point for each of the last three picks - but to get collard especially was great IMO
