Well yes, it was interesting how they would do all this.

Two future picks.

And I think the pick merry go round will continue. That 22 is a good pick to waste on points, see them trading that and get additional points upgrade to use this season.

Are clubs allowed to still do deals in trade week and then draft night with the same clubs? Like what the Swans and Eagles did? I recall the AFL wasnt pleased.
They will send 22 to North for norths 2022r2, in exchange north won't bid on daicos

Use them to take Daicos
They don't need that many points - as it stands, the Pies may only be 200 points short right now. I'd prefer a 2022 points deficit to a 2022 Ist round pick trade - a 200 point deficit wouldn't even result is a slipped spot if the Pies finish below 15th

But you need to draft more than 1 or 2 players this year don't you?

I don't see any problems with Pies getting the points for Daicos, but the added machinations around trading in Lipinski & Kreuger, presumably wanting to also match for Dib, perhaps take someone else in the draft, and manage several players who are delisted but then redrafted just adds to the complexity of their trade & draft approach.

The value of having pick 22 is that it would provide a chunk of points to match, and therefore reduce the number of list spots Pies would need to have vacant.

It would also give them added flexibility on the night - if a Daicos bid did come a bit later, they would have the option of trading #22 for something in the future (presumably an early second round this year will retain its value) and recover a second round pick for next year.

All of 22, 36, 41, 43, 46, 48 & 58 (presuming no more FA compensation picks) sum to 2940 point - more than Pies need even to match a pick #1 bid.

They could easily pay e.g. #58 for Kreuger and one of the 40s pick for Lipinski, and still be above 2400 points.

With 5 picks meeting the need, they would only need to leave 5 open main list spots, reducing the number of players needing to be delisted. (And given the minimum main list requirement is 36, they'd only need to fill the minimum 3 spots at ND.)

Yes, you could manage the situation differently, but I see grabbing the Suns deal as a win-win and definitely smart by Collingwood.

Just as a thought.
If Collingwood and Gold Coast come to terms on the pick swaps, is the possibility there for a further agreement to not bid on Daicos at 3?

With a bit of luck, Nick may slip down to pick 4.

How many points do we have without that pick 22 now? This part is super confusing as to what we plan on using pick 22 for.

Otherwise, future 3rd = pick 37 even if we came last. Pick 46 + pick 58 = pick 37 in points. So that leg of the trade is decent.

For the final leg, we are trading future 4th for future 4th + pick 79.

What was the point of sending a future 4th each both ways?

By the looks of the trade if it goes down that way, GC may be backing themselves to finish above the Pies next year. They may also rate next years crop more or want the certainty that this years draft doesn't have due to lockdowns.

But they are also giving us their future 4th, so this point is invalid?

No it's not if the first part of what I said is the case. It's relatively minor, but if GC think they'll finish above the Pies which appears they do, they get a free upgrade as a bonus of this trade.

Very good business from GC, they are trading picks they will not be using and getting most of Collingwood's 2022 draft. If the Pies struggle again, this will be great for the Suns.

I honestly don't know whyy we did this trade now instead of after the Daicos bid.

This way not only do we not get to keep 22, we also have more assets for WBD/Geelong to take for Kreuger/Lipinski, so we can't pretend to be poor anymore and threaten PSD.

because we don't want to go into Deficit in Next Years Draft

Neither Kreuger or Lipinski are worth pick 22, Ned Guy isn't there anymore so I doubt they give that up for either of them.

Given that it would involve giving away basically your whole 2022 draft, now they can probably say 46 for Lipinski and 58 for Kreuger and that's it because there is nothing else to get.

There goes our picks for next year

We took 5 players inside 31 last year....and 6 inside 44.
We will take arguably the best player in the pool this year and will still have our first rounder next year.
We also took a further 2 last year in the mid season draft.

In addition we will bring in a further 2 22 and 23yr old who fill genuine list profile needs and positional needs.

We can always add 2nd or 3rd rounders in other trades next year.
First round presence was crucial next season and we will maintain that.

Im not disappointed despite the way it sounded. I think this a solid deal. Hopefully we can trade back into next years draft like we did last year.
