I’m not convinced either would fetch a lot to be honest. Ginnivan ends up in Stevo territory by the end of the year at this rate.
AJ has suitors and would bring something in. Ginnivan though I agree with by years end his value will be intrinsic only which is the main reason I can’t see it happening.

AJ has some currency and might attract a late second. Ginnivan is harder to tell. He has the potential to be valued at a first round pick but recent form hasn't been so promising unfortunately. He hasn't quite gambled on his own performance or urinated in Noble's cup so is still some way off Stevo territory. Stevo had many strikes that led to his trade to North Melbourne. He was also on $600k per year and wanted to play midfield when he lacked the tank.

I watch the VFL regularly. He appears twiggy in comparison to other ruckmen and he's more mobile than other units. Eg. most of the AFL rucks.
Strange how people can see things so differently. I thought he'd put on quite a bit of weight this year, particularly around the torso & his legs are quite thick .. & he looks puffed out a lot to me.

Agree. Ive noticed he has put on strength in his upper body. Probably the reason he has performed more strongly in the ruck and around the ground, able to not get pushed under the ball as much as last year. Its been an improvement.

What’s an acceptable pick or player for AJ?
I suspect if it happens then it’s an Aish situation where someone comes at him. We can obviously keep him, but it might be in everyone’s interest to do it. In that case I’d say he has similar value to Henry so a pick between 15 and 25.

For practical examples if there was interest from Fremantle their 2nd and Sturt or if it were WC then maybe AJ and Carlton’s 2nd for Barrass or perhaps it’s Sydney with Amartey involved or AJ plus our 1st for Papley. Point being unlike Ginnivan I suspect his value is broad if clubs think he’s gettable and I think he’s one we can afford to lose if we have faith in Kreuger and McInnes.

IMO, a best case scenario McInnes can be a JDG level forward which is quality without being special. I doubt AJ gets to that level so that’s what the club will weigh up. The thing is though if I’ve misread it and there’s no interest in him then he stays. I’m extremely fluid on it and don’t have a resolved opinion.

Ah McInnes. I spent the whole off-season not expecting much from him, thinking he probably won't make it. Changed my mind after Round 1 against the Cats when he got subbed on.

But now I'm not sure at all. Just hasn't showed it yet. But then again struggling to break into the top team isn't going to be easy.

I commented in the match day thread that it feels like he’s in a T Brown death spiral, but they keep picking him as a forward so they must see something. Gut feel is the club think what he did v Geelong is in there on a more regular basis and they can bring it out of him. With McStay, Mihocek, Cox, Cameron, Kreuger and AJ in the mix I don’t see how that happens over the next 18 months which is a long time to wait.

I do laugh at the “OMG you can’t speculate on my AJ” type stuff. These are all practical discussions that happen at all clubs all the time about all bar the very best on the list and even then they come up for discussion if their wage isn’t right…

Reef has played poorly in his last couple games in the AFL side.
Maybe he's been a bit too anxious to do well, because he has ability.
And maybe our coaches are still trying to find out how best to utilise his specific strengths & weaknesses.

I think he'd be seen as more of an Elliott replacement than a KPP.

I don’t see it at ground level. Elliott’s hunt is ridiculously underrated and without that ground level presence Elliott would sit alongside the other group as an undersized KPF, IMO. Much like JDG was as a permanent forward.

I don't underrate Elliott. Love him. And agree that Reef hasn't shown as much in terms of hunting the ground ball as a forward- not sure what that says about his midfield chances.

More a general comment re Elliott’s hunt being underrated than towards yourself. I agree it doesn’t look great, but it could be role and confidence. If they’re asking him to be focussed on contesting aerially it’s hard for a kid that’s in and out in and out to strike that balance while exerting an influence at ground level.

I keep going back to him, but JDG got through on his talent and it feels to me like McInnes is being asked to play a similar way and he just doesn’t have what JDG has which allowed him to impact as a forward despite his deficiencies in the role. I’ve probably butchered that explanation though so I don’t feel like my point on that front is going to land the way I’d hope it would.

The question is - do we really have a like for like replacement for Elliot. He has a unique skill set combining marking ability, ground game and speed.
I don’t see anyone on our list to completely fit that profile - McInnes may be the logical first starter.

I'm hoping that's just this board and not the club. In terms of style, they're very different. JDG has always wanted to take the game on when he has the ball in his hands - trying to do too much used to be a weakness - Reef on the other hand gets rid of it as quickly as he can - I've seen nothing to suggest that he projects as a line breaker - neither in his mindset or having enough game sense to get it on the spread. I think he'll find an AFL spot eventually, could be quite soon if he can overcome his nerves - but I wouldn't be using JDG as a comparison - other than physical attributes.
